[Level 2 Raft: 0/10 Planks]
Just after the system issued the task, the building page in the system showed the materials needed to upgrade the raft to level 2.
"It seems that upgrading the raft in the early stages is quite simple." Li Changge breathed a sigh of relief.
The system gave him three days, and he was genuinely afraid he wouldn't be able to finish.
Li Changge, holding the remaining two pieces of wood, sat at the front of the raft, lost in thought.
"How should I expand? Would a rectangular expansion be too wasteful?"
Li Changge made a decisive decision to expand the raft horizontally.
Expanding the raft laterally not only increases its area but also allows it to get closer to resource barrels at a distance.
Here, you have no way to propel the raft forward; you can only drift with the current and have no way to obtain the resources you want. Therefore, expanding the raft laterally becomes very important.
At least you can get closer to the resources you want.
[Standard grade planks: 2/3 wood]
[Function: Adding planks makes your raft larger and stronger, allowing it to carry more resources.]
"Damn it, we're still missing one piece of wood," Li Changge said angrily.
It's pitch black right now; even if a resource bucket floats right in front of you, you can't see it.
"Why does this thing called night have to exist? Damn it!" Li Changge slammed his hammer on the wooden raft, utterly exasperated.
The inability to expand the raft means wasting time completing the mission.
"I'll have to start working first thing tomorrow morning." Li Changge tried searching for resource barrels in the dark.
Unfortunately, it was under the faint moonlight.
I couldn't see anything at all.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Just as Li Changge was pondering the problem, huge waves suddenly rose around his raft, crashing onto it one after another.
The small raft was no match for the impact of the big waves, and was tossed about, with the constant danger of capsizing.
"Oh no, this is exactly the same scene as when the bearded man was attacked." Li Changge's heart skipped a beat. He quickly climbed back to the middle of the raft and took out the hunter's hook and ocean pine cone from the barrel.
Only when Li Changge had these two things in hand would he feel a little more at ease.
However, the current situation is still not optimistic. The waves are still surging, and Li Changge has already seen the fins of at least two sharks swimming nearby.
"What a terrible night." Li Changge lay on the raft, his hands gripping the gaps between the planks tightly.
Braving the raging wind and waves, Li Changge barely managed to open his eyes a crack, trying to observe the current situation.
But what happened next sent chills down his spine.
Just a few seconds after the two sharks appeared, five or six more shark fins appeared in the area.
"Damn it, am I going to run into a swarm of sharks?" Li Changge was extremely panicked, his hands gripping the raft trembling.
The waves grew larger and larger, and the seven sharks surrounded Li Changge's raft, constantly approaching. Some of the impatient sharks even bared their sharp fangs.
"I can't let them get close, or they'll tear me to pieces." Li Changge made a quick decision and pulled out a sea pine cone from his pocket.
As soon as this thing appeared, the shark swarm rushed towards Li Changge like a madman.
Without hesitation, Li Changge used all his strength to throw the ocean pine cone more than thirty meters away.
Seeing their delicious food fly away, the sharks changed direction and swam towards the ocean pine cone.
As the sharks moved further away, the waves gradually subsided, and the sea became calm again.
Li Changge stood up again, his gaze drifting towards the direction of the shark swarm, the fear in his heart still lingering.
"It's only the beginning of night, and I almost drowned in a swarm of sharks. How am I going to get through this long night?" Despair gradually crept into Li Changge's heart.
"I wonder how the others survived this attack," Li Changge murmured.
He then slowly moved over and opened the chat channel.
"Damn it, I just ran into a giant whale. Luckily it wasn't interested in me, or I would be dead."
"Holy crap, this is so exciting? Nothing's happened to me, it's just so boring."
"Hehe, what's so special about a giant whale? It's said that not long ago someone encountered a huge creature that swallowed everyone within a one-kilometer radius of the sea. According to eyewitnesses, it might be a prehistoric behemoth."
"Holy crap, I want to go home! What the hell is this game? It has everything!"
"Want to leave? Too late. This game can't be stopped once it starts, until only one person is left."
Upon seeing this, Li Changge fell silent.
"It really is cruel," Li Changge shook his head.
He then closed the chat channel and found that everyone else was just chatting idly, offering no help whatsoever to his situation.
"The shark attack was definitely not the first wave, nor could it be the last." Li Changge looked at the calm sea with deep worry in his eyes.
"It seems I can only rely on you." Li Changge took out the Hunter's Fishhook, its blue surface gleaming under the moonlight.
Without hesitation, Li Changge forcefully swung the hunter's hook in his hand.
The hunter's hook fell into the sea about 20 meters away from Li Changge. With his fairly good eyesight, Li Changge could barely see that the hook sank directly to the seabed without any splashing as it fell.
He waited with anticipation, waiting to see what the hunter's hook would bring back.
"Hope is a life-saving thing."
Li Changge offered a silent prayer.
The more he anticipated it, the more anxious Li Changge became. The mechanical interface in the sky continued to work even at night.
The densely packed names glowed, and Li Changge only saw countless names quickly turn red before disappearing.
Li Changge was terrified that he would also become one of those who disappeared. At this moment, he was extremely restless and paced back and forth on the raft.
"System, you're not kidding me, are you? The hunter hook isn't tangled with any line, it'll come back on its own?"
"Host, please calm down. You must believe in the saying that anything produced by the system is of the highest quality. There is something special inside the Hunter's Hook. It will come back. Don't worry," the system said calmly.
"What is that?"
"You can't know that yet."
The system's tone was as if it disliked Li Changge, which made the latter very unhappy.
Helpless, Li Changge took out the remaining bread and ate it while sitting on the raft.
He had to prepare for the worst, in case the hunter's hook didn't come back...
Even in death, he should die with a full stomach.
Just as Li Changge was eating bread, halfway through...
There was a sudden movement on the seabed.
A dark shadow slowly rose up under Li Changge's gaze.
"Holy crap, what the hell is this monster?"
