Chapter 88: Survivor's Relics

The door was not locked and opened with just a slight push.

Xu Xin looked inside the stone house. This time, there was no human-shaped stone statue in the room, which made Xu Xin breathe a sigh of relief.

He didn't want to see a human-shaped stone statue again. It was too weird.

This room was much smaller than the previous three rooms and was completely empty, save for an old chest in the center with a rusty lock hanging on it.

"There is only one box in the whole room. Why does it look so much like a trap house in the game?" Xu Xin was cautious and did not go in directly. Instead, he threw a stone inside, but there was no response from inside the house.

Coco on Xu Xin's shoulder did not sense any danger. Seeing Xu Xin being so careful, she jumped directly into the room, turned around and said "嘤" to Xu Xin, indicating that there was no danger in the room.

"This little guy." Xu Xin shook his head and stepped into the house.

The box was locked with a rusty lock, and Xu Xin didn't have the key. But he didn't want to look for a key, so he just pulled out his iron sword and struck the lock, which looked very fragile.

“Crack!”

The lock broke with a sound and fell to the ground.

"What key are you looking for? Great force can make miracles happen."

Xu Xin habitually came to the back of the box, as he was always afraid that something would suddenly jump out of the box.

The box was made of wood and gave off a strong smell of decay. Xu Xin wanted to open the lid, but the box had been in disrepair for a long time, so with a "click", he broke the lid off.

The items in the box also appeared in front of Xu Xin.

"Huh? This is a green-grade animal hide backpack?" Xu Xin was a little surprised to see something that could only be made in a survivor's treehouse. He picked up the backpack, and sure enough, it was a green backpack.

There was a set of neatly folded clothes under the backpack. Xu Xin reached out and picked it up. It was a green-level leather armor set, but it was not new. Instead, it was a tattered leather armor set that was almost completely damaged.

Xu Xin was also surprised by what was in the backpack.

"Stone pickaxes, stone axes, stone spears, bows and arrows, various rotten fruits, wood, and stones. This is really a survivor's backpack!" Xu Xin poured out everything in the backpack, which were all basic tools and materials.

Could this be the relic of a survivor who died in this dungeon?

Judging from the degree of damage to the armor, the owner of the armor must have been attacked very fiercely and there is basically no possibility of survival.

Xu Xin suddenly remembered what the mysterious voice had said: "The city contains countless treasures left by our ancestors." Could this "ancestor" be referring to someone who had survived before?

What about the survivors who died? Did they leave no trace? But if they really did, who folded the tattered clothes neatly, put the clothes and backpacks in the box, and locked the box with an iron padlock?

There is nothing good in this green-level backpack. The only useful bow and arrows are made of wood, which are almost rotten at this time and can be broken with a single bend.

Xu Xin left the room without taking anything.

The fifth room was just opposite this room, and Xu Xin pushed the door open and walked in.

Sure enough, there was also a wooden box in the room. Xu Xin cut the rusty iron lock with his sword again and opened the wooden box.

The green-level backpack was pressed on a set of broken armor.

This is probably another relic of a survivor.

There was nothing good in the backpack either. It was just basic materials that Xu Xin felt took up too much space. They were a burden to carry around, but it would be a pity to throw them away. They were useless.

Continuing to explore forward, the next few rooms are all in the same situation: a locked wooden box, the lock of which can be chopped open at will like the decorations, and inside the box are a backpack and a broken suit.

It wasn't until the tenth room that the room finally changed again.

The room was locked from the inside again, and Xu Xin used the same trick again to push the door open.

"Another human-shaped stone statue." Xu Xin looked at the stone statue of a female servant holding a broom in front of him.

The stone statue depicts a middle-aged woman, the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes incredibly lifelike. She holds a real broom, maintaining a sweeping posture with a focused expression, her eyes fixed on the ground, as if she is truly sweeping the floor with great care.

It's so realistic, too realistic indeed.

These stone statues are like the real residents of this underground city.

The first room you meet is the dungeon's male owner, the second room is the female owner, the third room is their children, and the stone statue in this room is a maid who handles chores.

These stone statues seem to really exist in this underground city. They are carved so lifelike that even their movements and postures do not look out of place.

Xu Xin now has a growing premonition in his heart that these stone statues may really come alive at an appropriate time!

Xu Xin felt a chill down his spine, but luckily he didn't come in alone. There was a red panda beside him who could sense danger.

"Coco, if there is danger, you must remind me." Xu Xin touched Coco's head and stuffed a blue-grade red berry into its mouth.

"...嘤!" Coco responded vaguely while eating berries.

The broom in the maid's hand emitted a blue light, and was obviously a blue-grade tool.

Xu Xin carefully pulled the broom out of the maid's hand, fearing that if he used too much force, the stone statue would really come to life.

[Special Broom (Blue): A tool feared by mutant beasts. Used to drive away low-level mutant beasts. Simply wave it at them. It turns out mutant beasts are afraid of brooms!]
