Chapter 69 Chive Cake

I walked to the door and turned back, forgetting to take my meat.

Although we made sausages and bacon, we also kept several pounds of fresh pork and pork fat.

Song Jinxiu didn't want the pig's head and offal, and only kept one pair for the village chief as a snack.

"Auntie, why are you cutting so many leeks?" Song Jinxiu saw the pile of leeks in the corner.

"Let's make chive cakes tomorrow!" said Aunt Cuihua.

Song Jinxiu's eyes lit up. Yes, how could she have forgotten this.

Then he looked at Aunt Cuihua with a smile on his face, and the meaning was self-evident.

"Don't worry, you little greedy cat will be spared." Aunt Cuihua said with a smile as she looked at her expression.

"Hehehe! Then let me help pick the leeks." The leeks had just been cut from the field. There were some weeds on them and a lot of yellow leaves, so they needed to be sorted out before washing.

"Aunt, next time just call me directly. If I hadn't happened to see you, how long would you have been busy doing it alone?" Song Jinxiu said as she picked leeks.

"Wait a minute, sit down and rest for a while. You'll need to work hard tomorrow, so I'll do more of these chores.

Let me make it clear first, I don’t know anything, and I’ll need you to teach me tomorrow!” Song Jinxiu said quickly when she saw Aunt Cuihua was about to sit down and pick leeks again.

I am young and I feel unbearable after bending my waist for so long, let alone the elderly aunt.

"Okay, okay, then I'll take a rest. I'm old! It's better to be young." Aunt Cuihua was not polite.

I sat on the stool to rest. My waist really couldn't take it after working for so long.

"What do you mean old?! If you and your uncle go out and tell them you're over 30, people will say something. No way, are you really over 30? You look only in your twenties!"

Song Jinxiu changed her voice in a strange way and imitated it, making everyone laugh.

After a short rest, Aunt Cuihua also came down to pick together. The two of them talked and laughed and didn't seem bored.

Today, you need to wash the chives and let them drain the water so that the chive cakes you make tomorrow won’t break.

When An An woke up, Song Jinxiu pulled him over to help.

The three of them quickly washed the leeks together.

"Oh, my waist! It's going to break!" Song Jinxiu said exaggeratedly.

"Little kid, why are you shouting?" Aunt Cuihua patted her.

"No, I was afraid you would be embarrassed to shout, so I shouted for you, hahaha!" Song Jinxiu said. "Let Dazhu know that you are tired, and take the initiative to help Auntie massage tonight!"

"That's great. Why don't you ask your uncle to help me?" Aunt Cuihua asked with a smile.

Song Jinxiu stole a glance at the village chief and whispered, "Then I don't dare!"

"Hey! So I look like an easier target to bully, right?" Brother Dazhu disagreed.

After spending some time together, the two became quite familiar with each other.

"If you dare come, I'll retreat first!" After saying that, Song Jinxiu picked up the basin and ran away.

Liu Ankang followed her and left.

Leaving behind Dazhuzi, who was at a loss whether to laugh or cry, standing in the middle of the yard, looking at his father.

Isn't it a son's job to help mom press it? Why bother dad to do it?

After returning home, Song Jinxiu picked up two plates of dumplings and a piece of braised pork.

As expected, Dalinzi didn't come yesterday, so Liu Ankang had to deliver it to him.

Now that I don’t have a refrigerator, I don’t know how long it can be kept, so it’s better to eat it as soon as possible.

Besides, we will have chive cakes to eat tomorrow, and these dumplings will lose their favor if we don’t finish them.

I also brought ten kilograms of sticky rice flour to Aunt Cuihua's house. Since we are going to be partners, I can't just not contribute anything!

"Auntie, I'm here again!" Song Jinxiu shouted loudly.

"What are you doing, kid? I told you to just come and help tomorrow, why are you bringing flour?" Aunt Cuihua said unhappily when she saw the sticky rice flour.

"If I don't bring it to you, I'm afraid you'll just give me one meal tomorrow and send me away. Hehe! That way I can eat and take more tomorrow!"

Song Jinxiu put down her things and ran away! "No more talking, auntie, my house is on fire and I have to go back quickly."

Looking at the figure running away, Aunt Cuihua smiled helplessly.

Song Jinxiu really didn't lie. She was indeed boiling water in the stove.

After one trip back and forth, the water was almost boiled.

I'll have dumplings tonight, but if I eat another meal tomorrow morning they'll be gone.

The next morning, Song Jinxiu put her bowl on the table after eating and rushed to the village chief's house.

She couldn't wait to see what was going on.

I've only eaten it before and heard others talk about how it's made, but I've never seen it with my own eyes.

Liu Ankang suspected that she was just trying to avoid washing dishes, and he found evidence.

When we arrived at the village chief's house, everyone was already busy.

"Wow, it's so early!" The village chief was cutting leeks and had already cut a large basin.

Brother Dazhu is kneading dough. No, it’s not flour, it’s glutinous rice flour.

Seeing Dazhu rubbing his hands twice and then touching the cold water, Song Jinxiu asked curiously, "Why do you want to touch the cold water?"

Song Jinxiu poked it and said, "It's not hot!"

"To make it more resilient so it won't break when wrapped." Brother Dazhu replied.

"Will it become tough after touching water?" Song Jinxiu asked in surprise.

"Yes, if you hit it, do you feel it bounces back? That's tenacity," Dazhu replied.

"Then why don't you pour more water in it, so that it can bounce up." Song Jinxiu said.

Dazhu looked at her speechlessly, "I was wrong. The purpose of getting wet is to keep your hands clean. Go to my mother's place. It's more fun there."

Song Jinxiu was driven away by Dazhu in disgust.

"It's just a joke, huh!" Song Jinxiu got up and walked towards the kitchen.

Aunt Cuihua was stirring something in the pot with a stick.

Wearing only a somewhat thick inner garment and vest, Song Jinxiu felt that Aunt Cuihua was sweating.

When Song Jinxiu walked in, she saw that they were stirring glutinous rice flour.

"Why do we have to boil it? Can't we just add boiling water and knead it?" Song Jinxiu asked curiously.

"It is easier to wrap the ones that are cooked, and the skin is not easy to break. Do you want to try it?" Aunt Cuihua handed the stick to Song Jinxiu as she looked at her eager look.

"Okay." Song Jinxiu took the stick. "Why is it so hard?"

I thought it was easy when I saw Aunt Cuihua stirring the milk in circles. But who knew that once I started, I would have to waste some of the energy I used to drink milk in the morning.

After stirring for a while, Song Jinxiu had used up all the energy she put into stirring the glass of milk in the morning, and she said she wanted to take a break.

Aunt Cuihua took the stick with a smile and continued stirring.

Song Jinxiu shook her hands, feeling so sore. It was really strenuous work.

She also wanted to take off her coat because it was a bit hot.

Then I saw Aunt Cuihua scoop up the sticky rice flour in the pot with a spatula and put it into a very thick ceramic basin.

Then start kneading it.

Song Jinxiu was stunned! It was just taken out of the pot. "Isn't it hot?"

Song Jinxiu poked it and said, "Hiss, it's so hot!"

Song Jinxiu blew on her fingers and looked at Aunt Cuihua admiringly as she rubbed them again and again.
