Chapter 36 The Little Money-Grubber

Shang Lin knew that Old Man Chai cherished him, but was it really necessary to cherish him like this? Was he still reeling from the shock of Old Man Chai's previous half-dead state?

Grandpa Chai explained, "I just bought this. When I was testing it to see if it worked well, I asked the shopkeeper to plug it in for a little longer so we could ride the tractor back home, since it's windy there."

At that moment, Shang Lin suddenly felt like a porcelain doll that would shatter at the slightest touch, so she quickly changed the subject, "Godfather, you haven't been doing any heavy work at home alone, have you?"

Old Man Chai laughed and said, "I'm not stupid. I know that health is more important than anything else."

Li Hongjin hurriedly said, "Don't worry, I'll help if there's any heavy work at home. But Manager Duan came to the village to look for you again. I told him you live at school and can only come back once every two weeks."

It's harvest season again, and Manager Duan is thinking of me again. But I have my own mountain produce, so what excuse can I come up with? Shang Lin can only say, "Then I'll call him back first, so it won't be inconvenient if I go back."

Shang Lin went to the small supermarket to make a phone call, while Grandpa Chai and Li Hongjin waited outside. After a short while, they saw him come out, and Grandpa Chai hurriedly asked, "Did you finish talking so quickly?"

"Yes, Manager Duan wants to meet with me to discuss this."

Li Hongjin hurriedly asked, "When?"

"When I return to school the day after tomorrow, I'll come to the county a little earlier to meet him."

Old Man Chai looked at Shang Lin and finally said, "Then let's hurry home, lest it get dark and the roads become difficult to travel."

Li Hongjin quickly chimed in, "Yes, yes, and it's dark and the wind is chilly; your body can't handle it."

After a bumpy ride on the three-wheeled tractor, Shang Lin's complexion was not good when he got home. Old Man Chai could only say, "You should get some rest. We can talk about it after you've rested."

Shang Lin did want to rest, but... the Dragon Spirit Tower appeared in front of him in a flash, and the old Divine Lord calmly took out a pile of herbs full of spiritual energy and placed them in front of him, "These herbs are ripe, take them to nourish your body."

Shang Lin's eyes immediately lit up, "The spiritual energy in this batch of medicinal herbs is actually more concentrated than before!"

The deity casually replied, "How would I know? It's probably thanks to Green One."

"Oh, right, I forgot about it." Shang Lin hurriedly put the medicinal herbs away, not wanting to be caught by Old Man Chai and have trouble explaining. "It's just that there are too few kinds of medicinal herbs, so we need to think of a way to make use of them."

The Divine Lord looked at Shang Lin with a hint of helplessness, "You don't know what's going on inside the Dragon Spirit Tower since you're out there. Unless your cultivation level increases enough to expand the space inside the tower, don't put anything else in there."

Shang Lin paused, "Oh right, if you really count, there are nine creatures of different sizes in the tower. Even if you live in the dormitories, it would take a whole row of houses. Plus, you have to raise chickens and rabbits, grow herbs, mountain products, fruits and vegetables. It is indeed a bit small."

The deity added, "That's not all; everyone also needs a place to cultivate."

"Alright, I was greedy." Shang Lin immediately compromised. "Tell Qiu Niang to sort out the seasonal mountain products; we need to sell them for money again."

The Divine Lord couldn't help but complain, "Look at you, where is your demeanor as a genius of the cultivation world? You're just a little money-grubber."

Shang Lin laughed, "So what if I'm a money-grubber? Why add 'little' to that? Besides, what kind of genius am I now? I'm Shang Lin from the human realm, a sickly fifteen-year-old boy. I'm not going to talk to you anymore, I'll talk to Qiu Niang instead."

The deity wanted to say, "Qiu Niang and Ji Xiaoyao are cultivating."

But then she thought again that the outcome of this cultivation was still uncertain, so she decided not to give Shang Lin any hope that might be hopeless. She said, "Then you go find her. I'm going back to sleep. I didn't expect teaching disciples to be so tiring. It seems I was overthinking things."

Shang Lin smiled helplessly. Although he had gone from being a God-King to a Tower Spirit, his inherent aura remained unchanged. Indeed, some things, once accumulated over time, are virtually impossible to change.

However, it will take some time to adapt to this identity. After all, compared to the powerful ancient dragon, the tower spirit is really no match, especially with someone like himself who is barely clinging to life.

Shang Lin did not release Qiu Niang immediately. Instead, he picked up a pen and paper and wrote down the names of the mountain products produced in autumn before releasing her and saying directly, "Organize these mountain products. We may sell them the day after tomorrow."

Qiu Niang took the blank paper and looked at it, then looked at Shang Lin and said, "Could you write your handwriting a little clearer, my benefactor?"

Shang Lin looked at his cursive script and smiled apologetically, "It's a bit lacking, but I didn't expect human writing to be so simple. Let me explain it to you, or you can write it again after I explain it to you."

"Then I'll write it down to avoid making mistakes."

Shang Lin hurriedly handed Qiu Niang a pen, but it turned out to be a ballpoint pen used by middle school students. She was stumped again, "Do you have a calligraphy brush?"

"No. But this pen writes very fast, you'll see once you try it."

Qiu Niang had no choice but to try it out. Aside from the initial discomfort, it didn't affect her handwriting. In fact, her handwriting was indeed beautiful, and even though it was her first time using a ballpoint pen, it didn't affect her much.

It seems that all the "knowing a little bit" she mentioned before was just modesty. Perhaps the poems she kept reciting in her dream were actually written by herself. She was a talented woman of ancient times.

The day after tomorrow, when meeting with Manager Duan, no matter what he wants to sell, he needs a proper explanation. Shang Lin was preparing to hold a meeting to discuss it, but Xing Tian came out and said to him, "There's a weekly test next week, followed by a monthly test. You'd better improve your foreign language score, otherwise you'll have to spend money on tutoring, which is not worth it."

Shang Lin immediately assured him, "I know, I know, I will never let you lose me as a student, but making money can't be delayed. We still need to discuss the source of these mountain products." He was a little worried.

The next second, Hu Tangdi suddenly appeared. She didn't understand Shang Lin's worried mood at all and said directly, "What's there to discuss? Just tell the truth, and then I'll erase his memory."

"No way." Shang Lin refused instantly. "Your method is absolutely unacceptable. Don't forget that you're still on the Heavenly Dao's blacklist. If something goes wrong and you harm a human, our blood pact alone won't be enough to protect you. It would be more reliable for you to disguise yourself as one of my relatives or friends and let me introduce you to sell the mountain products to Manager Duan."

Hu Tangdi was startled. How could she have forgotten the will of Heaven? Which surviving demon in the Dharma-ending Age didn't live cautiously? Just look at She Jinxing. Unless she wanted to die, she wouldn't have escaped the seal.

But Hu Tangdi gave a charming smile. “Sect Leader’s idea is good, but I’m so good-looking. What if that person sees me and never forgets me and then searches for me everywhere? I heard from She Jinxing that you can’t move an inch in the human world without an ID card. Sect Leader doesn’t want me to be exposed, does he?”
