Chapter 57 Better to believe it exists

In Old Man Chai's heart, nothing was more important than Shang Lin's health, especially since he had failed to protect one of them, he wanted to protect this one no matter what.

"No," Shang Lin said with a straight face, "I'm just too lazy to get up."

Old Man Chai strongly disagreed, saying, "You still have to eat breakfast first, otherwise it's bad for your health. Aren't you hungry?"

The word "hunger" can be quite magical sometimes. For example, right now, it's fine if it's not mentioned, but as soon as it's brought up, Shang Lin gets incredibly hungry and hurriedly says, "I'm hungry now. Did Godfather not eat breakfast either and have been waiting for me all this time?"

Old Man Chai looked at Shang Lin with amusement, "It's just the two of us at home, why don't we eat together? You wait here, I'll go get the food."

Shang Lin, “…” Why does it feel like he’s affecting Old Man Chai’s health?

After having lunch with Old Man Chai, Shang Lin returned to his room and immediately released Huang Ying, instructing her, "Follow Manager Duan and see where he's sending all the mountain goods he's collected. Make sure you remember the destination of each type."

Huang Ying was puzzled, but still replied, "Yes, Sect Master."

After Huang Ying left, Shang Lin started memorizing vocabulary and grammar again until Old Man Chai came to call him for dinner. He then put down his book and rubbed his slightly swollen forehead.

Seeing this, Old Man Chai could only advise, "Studying is important, but health is more important. Come and eat."

Shang Lin smiled and said, "Yes, I know my limits."

Shang Lin wasn't just saying this to appease Old Man Chai; he had already arranged his time very reasonably because ordinary human lifespans are short, and he had no time to waste.

While resting at night, Shang Lin drifted off to sleep and began to dream again. This time, however, there were no houses or puppets in his dream; it was just a night sky.

The night sky was dotted with stars, showing no resemblance to the vast starry sky of the cultivation world. However, Shang Lin knew that his dream was probably not simple. Ever since Qiu Niang had haunted him in his dream, his dreams had become different.

Shang Lin looked around carefully, but there was nothing but a night sky, much like the scene when Qiu Niang first entered his dream. Only back then, there was black mist all around, but now there was none at all.

Shang Lin looked up at the sky, feeling somewhat unaccustomed to such a starry sky. However, in his previous life, he could be considered a formation master, so he naturally had to understand the star map. Otherwise, how could he have set up the defensive formation early yesterday morning?

Shang Lin gazed at the night sky for a while, then suddenly noticed that the stars Ju Men and Lian Zhen had met. Did these two ill stars meeting mean someone was about to fall ill? Or was it himself…?

In a daze, Shang Lin suddenly woke up. Although the sickly man's health was not good, he had not been sick since returning from the provincial hospital. If the dream was a premonition of himself, it might mean that someone was having a negative impact on him by using puppetry.

Could it be that my triple defenses are still insufficient to counter their puppetry techniques? It seems I need to find the source and confront that person directly. But how do I find that?

The main problem was that they had no clue what to do, and who would believe that what they saw in a dream was real? But given Qiu Niang's previous experience of being haunted in a dream, Shang Lin could only err on the side of caution.

However, the dream was quite peaceful, so Shang Lin soon drifted off to sleep again, waking up around 8 a.m. Old Man Chai was there to check if he was awake, so he could call him for breakfast, but…

Old Man Chai frowned immediately when he saw Shang Lin, "Did you stay up late studying again last night?"

Shang Lin subconsciously replied, "No, I went to bed very early yesterday."

Old Man Chai was very puzzled, "Why does he look so pale?"

Shang Lin thought to himself, "Perhaps the puppetry technique is working."

But he said, "I probably slept too much."

I've never heard of someone looking unwell after sleeping too much, especially since he's only slept for twelve hours at most. That's hardly too much for a young boy. Old Man Chai suddenly asked with a worried look, "Could he be sick? Should we go to the county hospital to get him checked out?"

Shang Lin was about to say "no need," but considering that he really needed to go to the county to find a puppeteer, he didn't think there was a puppeteer in the village. With only a few dozen households, everyone knew each other.

So he said, "Let's do it tomorrow, all the village cars left today."

We can't just go like this; we need to be prepared, otherwise it would be a waste of time.

Seeing that Shang Lin had no other problems besides looking unwell, Old Man Chai agreed. As for having Li Hongjin take them... that kid only charged them for gas each time he took them to the county, and sometimes when he went to the county on business, they wouldn't even ask for money. How embarrassing!

So Old Man Chai agreed, "Okay."

After dinner, Shang Lin wanted to reverse time so that he could rest during the day and cultivate at night without being discovered by Old Man Chai. However, he had just come out of meditation when She Jinxing and Hu Tangdi returned.

Although Shang Lin did not know the exact ages of She Jinxing and Hu Tangdi, one of them was undergoing a tribulation and the other had been sealed for nearly a thousand years, so they were at least ancient demons.

But at this moment, both ancient demons were filled with undisguised excitement. "Sect Master! We're back."

Shang Lin smiled slightly, "Back so early? Looks like you won the first battle!"

She Jinxing and Hu Tangdi exchanged a smile. Then, Hu Tangdi flicked his sleeve across the table in Shang Lin's bedroom, leaving behind neatly stacked bundles of hundred-yuan bills.

Even Shang Lin, with his calm and composed personality, was shocked and his expression changed. He subconsciously asked, "How come there's so much money? What did you do?"

She Jinxing immediately laughed and said, "This is all the money from selling mountain products and medicinal herbs. We didn't make much from selling mountain products, but we sold a single ginseng for 500,000. And that's because we didn't dare to be too ostentatious and sold it cheaply."

Shang Lin knew that medicinal herbs would never be cheap, especially ginseng with spiritual energy, but those who knew their value might not come across them, so they couldn't fetch a good price.

However, for someone who had once struggled to make ends meet, making money was all that mattered, especially since there were plenty of medicinal herbs in the Dragon Spirit Tower, so Shang Lin didn't care. But the bundles of money on the table gave him a feeling of withered trees coming back to life.

Shang Lin immediately asked, "How much is there?"

Hu Tangdi hurriedly replied, "Seven hundred and fifty-three thousand one hundred yuan." Then he took out another piece of paper and showed Shang Lin the details of the sale.

Shang Lin was truly surprised by how meticulous Hu Tangdi and She Jinxing were, and couldn't help but praise them, "Well done, keep it up."

Hu Tangdi smiled charmingly, "The sect leader's calculations were accurate."

Shang Lin smiled faintly, "There might be a slight connection, but it's mainly because you guys are capable."

After saying that, he called Xing Tian and Qiu Niang out and said with a smile, "Our Yuntai Sect has finally seen money, and the number is quite auspicious."
