Chapter 65 Your Life is So Bitter

After spending another day tidying up the house, Shang Lin began teaching everyone how to cook. Eating out all the time was not only unsanitary, but also expensive.

Of all these people, only Qiu Niang knows how to cook; the others don't. Oh, Xing Tian knows a little bit, but he can only boil an egg or make instant noodles.

But Qiu Niang didn't know how to use a modern kitchen, so Shang Lin asked Xing Tian to teach her, since he didn't know either. Xing Tian was also only a novice, but he had a solution: he found instructional videos online.

It was as if everyone had suddenly opened the door to a new world. They were all very enthusiastic about learning everything, and they felt that the sect leader hadn't bought enough phones, as they were definitely not enough.

However, before Shang Lin could say anything about this, Xing Tian spoke first: "Don't worry, the phones I ordered online are already on their way, and everyone will have one in a few days."

The eventful National Day holiday is over after the move. Shang Lin even took leave because he had to apply for day student status and move his things back from the dormitory.

After Shang Lin finished dealing with things at school, Hu Tangdi returned. When she came back, she looked listless and seemed like a completely different person compared to before.

But looking around, Hu Tangdi looked at Shang Lin with a puzzled expression and asked, "Where is this?"

Seeing Hu Tangdi's expression, Shang Lin knew that she had probably found out something serious, but she still patiently replied, "With our newly rented house, everyone will have a place to stay in the county from now on."

"Oh, that's good, that's good." After saying that, Hu Tangdi suddenly looked at Shang Lin with the loving gaze of an old mother and said very sincerely, "Sect Master, your life is so hard!"

Shang Lin felt a chill. He could accept Hu Tangdi's foxy appearance more, but he really couldn't stand this. Fortunately, Shang Lin had good self-control and remained unmoved, saying, "Well, let's talk about it then."

Seeing that Shang Lin remained unmoved, Hu Tangdi slightly composed himself. "Speaking of which, the sect leader's mother was cheated on. She only found out when she was three months pregnant with you, so in a fit of anger, she took you with her and left."

But people don't cherish what they get easily; what they can't get is always the best. So, two years later, the man seemed to come to his senses and started looking for someone again.

However, fickle men are also quick to tire of new things. Once they can't find someone, someone new appears, and they eventually give up. Originally, this would have allowed Shang Lin and her son to live a peaceful life, but the problem was that the man's eldest son fell ill and needed a bone marrow transplant from a direct relative.

The man had one son and three daughters, which shows how important his son was. Naturally, he had to do everything he could to treat him. No one else was a suitable match, so he could only search for Shang Lin, since he was the man's only illegitimate son.

That was all Hu Tangdi knew from the merchants. After speaking, he said with a worried look in his eyes, "Sect Master, the merchants didn't succeed this time, and I'm afraid they won't give up easily. My abilities are limited; I only erased the memories of the few people who came looking for me, and I'm not sure how long that will last."

Shang Lin suddenly laughed and said, "It's alright, are you and She Jinxing just for show?"

Hu Tangdi was taken aback, then laughed and said, "Compared to humans, we are naturally not just decorations. I'm just afraid that if we are too powerful, we might accidentally hurt humans, which would implicate the sect leader."

Shang Lin's expression hardened. "As long as no one dies, the consequences won't fall on me, so you can rest assured. Besides, if lives are in danger, it's not unreasonable to use killing to stop killing."

“…Yes.” Hu Tangdi hesitated for a moment before asking, “Since the sect leader lived with his mother, how come he is now living with his godfather? Where is his mother?”

Shang Lin paused, but then spoke the truth, "I want to know too."

Hu Tangdi, “…”

Given the sect leader's situation, "possession" is no trivial matter; he won't bring it up, and Hu Tangdi can't ask. So, Hu Tangdi simply started touring his new home.

The new house has two bedrooms, one for Shang Lin and one for "Old Man Chai". Others, unless they are in the Dragon Spirit Tower, only move around in the living room, as if the two bedrooms were forbidden areas.

Hu Tangdi, the visitor, was unaware of these things. Besides, she wanted to see if there were any hidden dangers. However, when she pushed open the door to "Old Man Chai's" bedroom, she saw him, who had been resting with his eyes closed, suddenly open them. His eyes were sharp and even carried a hint of murderous intent.

Hu Tangdi paused for a moment, then laughed and said, "You're not like Old Man Chai. You should tone it down to avoid causing unnecessary trouble for the sect leader outside. But your body is healing quite fast. You should be able to leave Old Man Chai's body in about a year."

Ji Xiaoyao slightly lowered his gaze and said in a cold tone, "Men and women are different, please have some self-respect."

Hu Tangdi was completely unaffected by Ji Xiaoyao's words and still laughed, "We are now fellow disciples, and you don't even call me junior sister, let alone mention my name. Tsk, so boring. What are you looking for a wife for? Even if you do find one, you'll suffocate me."

In Ji Xiaoyao's heart, his wife was his Achilles' heel, so his face immediately darkened. However, Shang Lin did not give him a chance to lash out and directly called Hu Tangdi away, "Take me to Meng Zhe's house."

Hu Tangdi immediately became serious. "Has the sect leader not dealt with the puppetry matter yet?"

Shang Lin spoke frankly, "Isn't this because I'm waiting for you to come back? I'm worried about the safety of She Jinxing taking care of a weak human like me all by himself."

Hu Tangdi paused, wanting to say, "Sect Leader, what does the weak have to do with you? If you are truly weak, where did all these strange beings in this room come from?"

However, since it concerned the safety of the sect leader, Hu Tangdi didn't say much and went to Meng Zhe's house with She Jinxing and Shang Lin.

Meng Zhe's family lived in a single-story house, not far from the county. Just by looking at it from the outside, you could tell that it was quite large, and there were yards in front of and behind the house. It was just that the location was rather remote and a bit... different from others.

However, Shang Lin was unsure of what aspect made them different. Perhaps the Meng family knew some other magic besides puppetry?

Shang Lin only went in to check after Hu Tangdi and She Jinxing concealed their presence and aura. What he was really concerned about was whether Meng Zhe knew about this matter and whether he was involved.

Meng Zhe was unaware of this at first, but the multiple layers of protection activated by Shang Lin, as well as the previous investigations by She Jinxing and Hu Tangdi, brought the commotion to light.

Meng Zhe didn't know what his father was doing, since their family line had basically ended. So, filled with doubt and curiosity, he secretly investigated and finally found out.

Looking at the two characters "Shang Lin" in front of the puppet, Meng Zhe could hardly believe his eyes. He even rubbed his eyes and looked at them carefully again.

Is this Shang Lin my classmate Shang Lin? No, no, no, even if it's not the Shang Lin I know, you can't take someone's life like this!
