Qin Xian looked behind her.
Two other people, both boys, were following behind her.
A fifteen or sixteen-year-old.
One of them, who looked to be around ten years old.
They have very similar eyebrows and eyes; they must be brothers.
They dress in trendy clothes, all designer brands.
Putting aside the clothes, the price of just one pair of shoes, which cost over ten thousand yuan, is equivalent to his salary for two months of food delivery.
The women were dressed very fashionably, with bracelets and gold necklaces around their necks and on their wrists.
It's clear that she's been doing well all these years.
"Jiaren, Jiaxin, come here and see your brother! Call him brother!" The woman noticed his gaze and quickly called out to the two of them.
The older one glanced at Qin Xian but didn't say anything. However, when he looked at Qin Xian's clothes and appearance, his face showed undisguised disdain.
The younger one frowned, grabbed the arm of the boy next to him, and grumbled, "I only have one older brother!"
The woman felt a little embarrassed and subconsciously looked Qin Xian up and down.
Qin Xian's expression didn't seem to change much; he just stared at them, seemingly still in a daze.
The woman pulled the two children aside, one in each hand, and scolded them in a low voice, "Didn't I tell you to call him 'brother' when you see him? Even if you don't like him, you have to put up with it..."
Qin Xian ignored what they were saying; his eyes remained fixed on the woman.
She is a mother.
She looks exactly like the mother I remember.
Perhaps because of the jewelry she wore, or because she hadn't suffered much hardship in recent years, she didn't look much older than she had fifteen years ago.
Over the past ten years, Qin Xian has thought about finding her countless times, wondering what she would look like now.
He had no education, couldn't afford to go to school, and couldn't find a good job, so he worked hard as a laborer and food deliveryman.
He thought that as long as he worked hard to earn money, lots and lots of money, he could bring his mother back.
He had thought many times about how he would feel when he saw his mother again.
Was he overcome with emotion, burst into tears, or rushed forward to confront her, demanding to know why she had abandoned him and left him behind...?
But he never imagined that one day their farewell would be like this.
He never imagined that when they met again, none of the feelings he had imagined would appear; there was no questioning, no excitement.
He never imagined that his heart would be so calm.
“Xiao Xian…” After scolding the two children, the woman came over and reached out to touch his face. She was emotional, tears welling up in her eyes, and choked out, “I know you hate your mother for abandoning you back then, but… your mother really had no choice back then…”
Qin Xian took another step back, dodging her hand.
The woman's expression stiffened. "It's Mom who's sorry... Mom is doing well now and has come back to find you. You still have two younger brothers. Mom is taking you with her this time, and from now on, our family will live together happily. Mom will make it up to you..."
"I don't want to be family with this stinking beggar!" The little one spoke up again upon hearing the woman's words, his disgust undisguised. "Mom, you promised to use his bone marrow to cure my illness... mmm..."
Before he could finish speaking, the older boy's expression changed slightly, and he suddenly covered his mouth, preventing him from saying anything more.
But Qin Xian heard it.
Qin Xian looked at the woman and suddenly laughed out loud, "You know what, for a moment I almost believed that you might have genuinely come back to find me..."
He was smiling, but tears kept streaming from his eyes.
"That's not how it is!" The woman's face showed panic. "Don't listen to Jiaxin's nonsense. Mom came back this time because she really wants to give you a good life..."
"Alright." Qin Xian suddenly felt that her expression was very fake, so he interrupted her and asked directly, "Just tell me why you came to see me."
The woman looked embarrassed. "Jiaxin... has leukemia... needs a bone marrow transplant..."
So, his mother, whom he had longed for day and night for fifteen years, finally returned one day, but only to save her other children with his life...
Qin Xian felt a chill creep over him, as if his blood had frozen. He seemed at a loss for what to do, tears welling in his eyes as he looked behind her, "Don't you have another child..."
The boy named Jiaren looked away, his eyes lowered, unable to meet his gaze.
The woman opened her mouth, "Their blood types are different..."
Jiaxin's illness requires a bone marrow transplant or blood transfusion from a relative.
Jiaxin's blood type is exactly the same as Qin Xian's.
And it requires long-term treatment.
In severe cases, it could cost another person their life.
"You don't need to say anything more." Qin Xian didn't want to know anymore. He dug his nails into his palms until they bled, and only then did he hold back his tears.
"Xiao Xian, I'm begging you, if you save Jiaxin, I'll give you a good life and money to make it up to you..." The woman grabbed his arm and cried pitifully.
"You know..." Qin Xian suddenly started laughing again, "The year you threw me in the trash can, I was five years old. I waited by the trash can for three days and three nights, but you never came back..."
"But I kept telling myself that my mother must have gotten lost, that she couldn't possibly abandon me, and I kept lying to myself like that..."
“I once swore that I would do anything to bring my mother back, even my life…”
"Finally, one day, my mother came back, but... she was no longer my mother..."
Qin Xian broke free from her grasp, stepped back again, loosened his grip, and his mind suddenly became calm without a ripple. He looked at her with clear eyes.
"I suddenly realized that my obsession with my mother stemmed from the deep-seated fear of being abandoned by her when I was a child. But today I suddenly woke up and realized that I lost my mother when I was five years old..."
