Li Guanping was stuck in a tree, caught in a dilemma. Many times he thought about just jumping off, but his fear of heights was so severe that he didn't dare to look down to see what was going on.
Having been frozen stiff on the tree for most of the day, he fell into a daze and began to hear Wang Tianxiao calling him, but he didn't respond because he thought it was a hallucination.
After hearing it repeatedly, he finally spoke up in response.
Wang Tianxiao was able to find him by following the sound and rescued him.
After hearing what his brother-in-law had to say, Wang Tianxiao felt both relieved and anxious.
Thankfully, Li Guanping has been rescued, and his younger brother and Mi Xiaoqing were at least not seriously injured, as they can still walk.
But then I thought, if that's the case, they should have already returned to the station. Why are they still nowhere to be seen? Where have they gone?
This location is actually only one or two miles away from the station. If you walk normally, it will only take ten or twenty minutes. Even in the valley, it will take less than an hour to climb to the mountainside.
According to Li Guanping's information, the two had been missing for more than four hours.
With that much time, you could come here two or three times, not to mention walking, you could even crawl back.
This can only mean that another unexpected situation arose on their way back, preventing them from returning.
Could that be dangerous?
Wang Tianxiao gazed at the mountains under the moonlight, his heart filled with anxiety, his brows furrowed.
That was too hasty.
He felt that the risks in Yangziling Mountains were already very low, especially during the day, and that they would basically not encounter any real danger. That's why he let the three green recruits travel together, thinking that the three of them could at least help each other, not to mention that they were also traveling with a dog...
Oh, and there's also Big Black!
Wang Tianxiao suddenly realized that his big black dog was also missing.
"Guanping, where's Dahei?"
"Big Black?"
"It's the dog you had with you."
"Oh, I don't... know. I was walking behind, and by the time I got here... they had already slid down. I was in a hurry, so I didn't... notice the dog."
Wang Tianxiao's anxiety deepened even further. If it were a person, it would be understandable, but where did the dog go?
Dahei often runs in the mountains and is very familiar with them. It's so smart that it shouldn't forget a path it's walked once. If it were still here, it would definitely return to the station to call for help.
But clearly, it didn't come back.
That means it's stuck in a situation from which it can't get back.
That makes the problem quite serious. There are only two reasons why a dog might not come back to call for its owner: either it is injured or even dead and unable to return, or it cannot leave and must stay to protect its owner.
Regardless of the reason, it shows that they are already on the verge of danger.
"Can you still walk?" Wang Tianxiao asked Li Guanping.
Li Guanping stamped his feet, rubbed his face which was a little numb from the cold, and nodded.
"Much better, brother-in-law."
"Okay, you follow me, we'll go find them."
"Okay, brother-in-law."
Wang Tianxiao squatted down and carefully examined the marks on the ground. Sure enough, he saw Mi Xiaoqing's footprints, but strangely, he didn't see Dafeng's footprints.
Because it was a valley, and the area was in a shady spot with the sun behind it, the snow against the mountain wall had not completely melted, and Wang Tiancheng and Mi Xiaoqing left clear footprints.
Not far below, there were relatively messy traces, which suggested that they came down from this place.
Then……
Wang Tianxiao suddenly felt overwhelmed.
Those two idiots!
He couldn't help but complain and curse under his breath.
This is the wrong way, oh my god!
The scene was to the north of where they were standing, but judging from the direction their footprints extended, they were walking south.
This is outrageous.
If you keep going south, you'll eventually reach the neighboring town. They might only realize they've gone the wrong way when they find themselves in another village or on a main road.
But there's another possibility: they might get lost in the winding mountains and turn west, which would allow them to cross the east peak of Yangziling to reach the west peak...
That would be really dangerous.
Even Wang Tianxiao himself couldn't manage to pass through the western half of Yangziling at night. Last time, on his way back from the airfield, he encountered a small pack of wolves while only passing the outer edge of Mengbafeng. He was carrying a gun and had three dogs with him, and only managed to escape by sheer luck.
However, Wang Tiancheng and Mi Xiaoqing had no hunting experience, and their old homemade guns were inconvenient to carry because of the gunpowder, so they only had the power of one shot.
Once you encounter those things, there's basically no chance of victory.
"Brother-in-law?"
"Stay close to me, those two are going the wrong way, and we don't even know where they've gone."
Wang Tianxiao gave a wry smile.
Li Guanping was inexperienced to begin with, and after being stuck in the tree for half a day in the cold, although he had come down now, he was still covered in snot and tears, and his mind was foggy. He basically followed whatever Wang Tianxiao said like a machine.
With a lead in hand, Wang Tianxiao called out to Aying a few more times, reminding her to wait upstairs when he came down earlier.
Ah Ying rushed down the hillside.
The slope of the hillside was a bit of a challenge for humans, but the dog moved as if it were flat ground. Even when it reached the edge of the cliff, which was even steeper, it only hesitated for a moment before rushing to Wang Tianxiao's side.
Wang Tianxiao rubbed its head.
"Ah Ying, whether we can find them or not depends on you."
He told Ah Ying to sniff around. Ah Ying was a little confused at first, but she quickly found a familiar scent among the messy smells and started sniffing as she moved forward with her head down.
