Chapter 209 Suspicion of Suicide

"You dare!"

“It’s not a matter of whether you dare or not. Look, if you really risk your life, what will happen to your granddaughter if something happens to you? And what about the child you held last time? Are you just going to abandon them?”

The old lady was stunned for a moment and didn't say anything.

“Auntie, I’ve come here today to have a proper talk with you. I know you’re a reasonable person. This land belongs to the public. Even if we don’t build a power station on it today, we’ll use it for something else another day. It can’t just sit idle like this forever, right?”

"I don't care about him." The old lady was still stubborn, but she no longer had the same imposing manner as before.

“If we move this place now, at least we can discuss it with you properly. We can think about how to help you with your requests. But if we encounter an unreasonable person, you will not only get nothing, but you may also be bullied. Why would you want that?”

"Are you trying to scare this old woman? I'm right here, let's see who can do anything to me!"

Are you sure you don't want to reconsider?

"I don't care. Anyway, whether it's public or private, my wife is buried there, so we can't touch it."

Wang Tianxiao smiled, nodded and said, "Alright, since you don't agree, I'll go find your village chief and have him talk to you."

"Looking for the village chief?"

Wang Tianxiao didn't expect that mentioning the village chief would only make the old lady more unscrupulous. "Go ahead and go find him. I want to see what he can do to me."

They really are like a dead pig that isn't afraid of boiling water.

Wang Tianxiao chuckled inwardly.

If he hadn't known he was innocent, and that the location had been chosen jointly with Mi Liang and Station Chief Li, and that he was certain it wouldn't encroach on other people's land or cause any harm to the villagers of Mi Family Village, he might have doubted himself, wondering if he was one of those tyrants in movies who force orphans and widows to relocate and give up their land.

He figured that since the old lady couldn't handle it, he would have to find rice and grain to solve the problem.

I heard that Mi Liang has a lot of influence in the village, and most people give him face and listen to him. Maybe if he speaks for her, the old lady will agree.

But he didn't know the exact location of Mi Liang's house. He was wondering if he should ask someone first when he saw Mi Liang walking over from the spot where the old lady had just appeared.

Mi Liang was also surprised to see Wang Tianxiao. She quickly walked over and grabbed his arm. "Brother Wang, why didn't you tell me you were coming to our Mi Family Village? I told you I would treat you to the best tofu pudding in our village."

Wang Tianxiao laughed and said, "I came at the last minute and haven't had time to inform Brother Mi yet."

"What, is there something you need here?"

"It's all because of that power station. We looked at it together last time. If we don't put a substation down there, our station won't be able to use electricity."

"Oh, what happened? What are you doing here...?"

Mi Liang was somewhat confused.

Therefore, Wang Tianxiao could only tell Mi Liang about the old lady's obstruction of the construction in a roundabout way. He noticed that when he spoke, Mi Liang's expression was complicated, and she would look at the old lady from time to time with a hint of resentment on her face.

He waited until Wang Tianxiao finished speaking before walking around him to the old lady and saying helplessly, "Mother, why are you here again?"

ah?!

Wang Tianxiao was dumbfounded.

What's going on here?

Are they mother and son?

No wonder the old lady seemed so nonchalant when I mentioned looking for the village chief. It turns out the village chief is her son. No wonder she was so confident.

"Fourth brother, look at this guy, he's going to disturb your father's grave again. Are you going to do anything about it or not?"

"What grave of my father? My father is alive and well, where would a grave come from? Mother, your illness has flared up again. I've told you so many times, my father is fine. He lives at my eldest brother's house. If you miss him, we'll take you to see him. Why do you keep saying he's buried in the ground? If you keep cursing him like this, even if he's a perfectly healthy person, you'll curse him to death."

Wang Tianxiao listened in stunned silence; the amount of information was overwhelming.

He wasn't sure if this was a secret he should hear.

For a moment, neither leaving nor staying seemed like an option.

Just as Wang Tianxiao was in a dilemma, Mi Liang noticed his predicament and said to Wang Tianxiao with a wry smile, "Brother Wang, please forgive my predicament. My mother is like this. Ever since she suffered a shock when she was young, she has been having relapses from time to time. She thinks that my father is dead and buried in the ground."

Wang Tianxiao never expected such a question, nor did he expect the world to be so small, that this difficult-to-talk old lady was actually Mi Liang's mother.

He gave a wry smile, "So it's Brother Mi's mother. This makes things much easier. Your old lady is really something else; she's put me in a difficult position."

“I understand. It’s not just you; even my family members are often put in an awkward position.”

"Now that we've figured it out, everything's fine," Wang Tianxiao said, not wanting to dwell on the issue any longer. He had initially felt a bit distressed seeing the old woman, but now that he realized it was an illness, he felt sorry for her.

What could possibly happen to a woman to make her imagine her husband is buried in the ground?

I don't know what kind of emotion it is.

If you're talking about love, in her mind, the other person is dead.

If there are no feelings involved, why then do they so devotedly guard a tomb that doesn't actually exist?

Indeed, every family in the world has its own troubles.

Wang Tianxiao didn't want to speculate further; it was someone else's private matter and had nothing to do with him.

"Oh right, I just realized, so you were the one who saved my niece last time?"
