Although Wang Tianxiao had foresight about the future, he was not as knowledgeable about the actual situation as Zhang Wenyuan.
Zhang Wenyuan, after all, rose to prominence in this era, and having been exposed to it since childhood, he was very familiar with some unspoken rules, which meant he could effectively implement and resolve some of Wang Tianxiao's ideas.
Wang Tianxiao was like a strategist, and Zhang Wenyuan was like a marshal.
No matter how grand a strategy the strategist proposes, it still requires the marshal to arrange the troops in order for it to be effectively implemented.
Upon arriving at the second floor of the hotel, Wang Tianxiao discovered that the former office had been replaced by a warehouse. Just as he was wondering what was going on, he saw a cleaning lady and quickly stopped her to ask what was happening. He then learned that Zhang Wenyuan had moved to the top floor.
Goodness, just three days ago we were on the second floor, and now we're on the top floor in one go!
He went up two more floors and arrived at the fifth floor.
The hotel has five floors, but due to its unique architecture, the lower floors can only be accessed via a separate staircase.
It turns out that they don't usually serve ordinary people.
Zhang Wenyuan was standing by the window, looking out the window with his back to the door, seemingly engrossed in his gaze.
He didn't even notice Wang Tianxiao coming in.
He only snapped out of his daze when Wang Tianxiao walked up behind him. He turned around, saw Wang Tianxiao, and laughed, "Old Wang, why do you walk so quietly?"
"What are you looking at?" Wang Tianxiao walked up to him and followed his gaze out the window.
A cluster of low, uneven buildings.
In this city, there are very few buildings as tall as the Wenyuan Hotel. There are only a few buildings that are relatively tall, such as the state-owned department store, and the rest are at most two or three stories.
Most of them are still single-story buildings. Looking down from the fifth floor, they look like blocks of tofu or building blocks placed on the ground.
Wang Tianxiao had once looked down on Shanghai from the Oriental Pearl Tower, so when he returned to this era and stood on the fifth floor looking down at the city, he didn't feel that this was a city at all. Many villages in later generations were even more developed than this.
Upon closer reflection, the real estate and infrastructure industry has indeed undergone tremendous changes over the past few decades.
No wonder people like Zhang Wenyuan were able to rise to prominence under such circumstances.
He truly is a hero created by the times.
If you don't step onto the stage, someone else will. The wheels of history keep turning, and there are always some people who just happen to be sitting in the car and become the drivers.
“Old Wang, look at this city,” Zhang Wenyuan said, pointing to the low buildings outside the window. The northwest wind was strong, and many of the buildings were quite old, looking gray and giving off a desolate and dilapidated feeling.
What are your thoughts?
Wang Tianxiao smiled and said, "Isn't this the city we live in? What kind of impressions is Mr. Zhang looking for?"
"Perhaps it's all of them."
Zhang Wenyuan smiled and walked back to sit down on the sofa.
Wang Tianxiao followed and sat down, watching Zhang Wenyuan fiddling with the tea set on the table.
This seems to be a habit of wealthy people or bosses; no matter what they did before, once they become bosses, they learn to brew tea.
Wang Tianxiao didn't like drinking tea either.
Like wine, tea was something he considered dispensable.
They are part of the social interactions people engage in.
As for those who are addicted to alcohol or tea, Wang Tianxiao feels that they represent two different dimensions of life from his own.
They may seem to live in the same world, but they can't truly understand each other's sources of happiness.
Fortunately, he could tell that Zhang Wenyuan wasn't that kind of person.
His tea-brewing technique was very unskilled, even somewhat rough.
"Come, try this tea, it's top-quality Biluochun."
Wang Tianxiao took the small teacup and drank it all in one gulp. The tea was very mild, not bad, but not good either. Like many people's uneventful lives, it was just an ordinary taste.
"Ha, you're still drinking like a cow."
Seeing Wang Tianxiao finish his teacup in one gulp, Zhang Wenyuan couldn't help but laugh. He then refilled the teacup for him and gently picked up his own teacup, taking a small sip.
"Is Mr. Zhang trying to become a refined person?"
"It's not about being elegant; it's about keeping up with the times. You're the one who told me that people can't stay stuck in the past."
"Too."
Wang Tianxiao smiled and leaned back wearily on the sofa.
He breathed a long sigh of relief.
"What's wrong? You seem a bit listless. This isn't like you at all," Zhang Wenyuan said with a smile.
What have I always been like?
“Hmm… how should I put it,” Zhang Wenyuan thought for a moment and smiled, “it’s hard to say exactly, but it must be the kind of state where you are always energetic and full of drive. The way you are now, it’s like half of your strength has been taken away, and you’re completely out of sorts.”
Wang Tianxiao nodded.
“I have indeed encountered some issues recently, mostly family matters. Mr. Zhang’s family is respectable and wouldn’t have the same troubles I have. I didn’t expect it to be so obvious, that you saw right through me.”
Zhang Wenyuan did not continue the conversation on this topic, but just smiled bitterly and said, "Everyone has this kind of tribulation, and every family has its own troubles. You think that families like ours are like that without any problems? Actually, you just don't know it."
He sighed, "Actually, all families are the same. If there are few people, it's easier to manage, but if there are many people, you'll always encounter issues with the unequal distribution of benefits. As long as there are people, there will be conflicts, and with more people, the conflicts will fall into several categories."
And people, because of different conflicts, will stand on different sides. Over time, although everyone lives under the same roof and may even have some contact, deep down, there is little affection left; they are merely bound by interests.
Wang Tianxiao understood this statement and nodded.
