Chapter 228 Fireside Chat

"Yes, there's a general store and a bookstore next to us. Because there's a large variety of general stores, people have more choices; today's customers need this, tomorrow's they need that, so there's almost no overlap. Plus, many general stores are consumables; you buy them this time, and when they break, you just buy more."

Speaking of bookstores, the bookstore on our left is the only one on this street besides Xinhua Bookstore. However, the books at Xinhua Bookstore are relatively expensive, and you can only buy, not rent, and the books there are mostly mainstream books.

The books next to us are mainly novels. People who like to read can both read and rent books. Doesn't that make the place seem much more crowded?

So what are the special features of our store?

First, our product range is limited. Currently, we only offer goat milk, and it's fresh goat milk. This means our customer base is very limited: customers who like fresh goat milk and have the purchasing power. The number of such customers is inevitably small, and those who actually pass by our store are even fewer.

Secondly, milk isn't a necessity of life. Perhaps selling steamed buns would be more effective in attracting customers. People eat steamed buns every day, and many city dwellers lack the space to steam them themselves, relying mainly on buying them. If we make good steamed buns, we can naturally attract repeat customers.

Another, and even more important, point is that drinking milk isn't a lifestyle habit for most people. It's like drinking coffee; you all know about coffee, but you don't necessarily think about drinking it, right? Why? It's not necessarily because you don't like coffee, but because you simply don't think about drinking it—you lack that habit.

Wang Tianxiao got really into it, grabbed a beer bottle, poured himself a large glass, and downed it in one gulp.

The ice-cold beer felt incredibly refreshing as it entered my body.

"We need to solve a problem, which is to find out what the problems are. I've already mentioned a few main problems, so what we need to do next is to find solutions for each of these problems, right?"

Firstly, regarding the issue of product homogeneity, here's what I'm thinking: if we only sell fresh milk, it is indeed a bit limited. But what if we supply fresh milk to ice cream factories, hotels, and various snack shops, and deliver it to them daily or take a cut? That should attract a group of customers.

Take an ice cream factory as an example. They currently use milk powder, which is mainly made from cow's milk. But there are no dairy cows around here, so it must be milk powder, not fresh milk. If we could replace their milk powder with fresh milk powder at a lower price, wouldn't that be a good business opportunity?

The same principle applies to hotels and snack shops; since they need to provide milk anyway, if they can use cow's milk, they can also try goat's milk. Similarly, because our costs are lower, we can use relatively low prices to capture the market first.

“But brother-in-law, we want to do this, but it’s very difficult. Where can we find hotels and snack shops that are willing to accept our fresh milk?”

“This is the next issue I want to address,” Wang Tianxiao gestured for him to hold on, “Let’s talk about the customer base. Actually, you’ve been getting this wrong all along. When I took over this shop, it didn’t mean we’d primarily sell goat milk here. It’s just a hub, or rather, a channel for showcasing our business to the outside world…”

Seeing the two staring blankly at him, Wang Tianxiao paused slightly, thought for a moment, and then said, "Simply put, the purpose here is to let others know that this product exists. But the real sales cannot be limited to this environment and the flow of people in front of us; they need to be outside."
