There were eleven jackals in the group.
Besides the three in front, there were six adult jackals and two young jackal cubs behind them.
The cubs looked to be only one or two months old, following their mother closely. Unlike the solemnity of adult jackals, the cubs seemed very happy.
One-Ear cautiously surveyed its surroundings, and making sure there was no danger, it walked over and began to eat the roe deer. The white jackal behind it had gentle eyes and seemed to be One-Ear's mate.
The little jackal on the side had a cold look in its eyes. It was still looking in the direction ahead, sniffing the air lightly, seemingly lost in thought.
Soon, the one-eared dog had almost finished eating. It stepped back a few steps to make room, and the white jackal and the little jackal immediately went up and began to eat the roe deer.
The white jackal ate gently, like a noble princess, while the little jackal wolfed down its food, blood dripping from its mouth, and occasionally letting out a low growl.
It didn't make any unnecessary movements; it just seized the time to swallow and bite frantically.
Even after the one-eared creature let out a low growl and retreated, it still tore off a piece of meat and chewed on it as it walked away.
Although it was not the largest jackal in the pack, the adult jackals behind it did not underestimate it at all; they even lowered their heads slightly, showing a certain degree of weakness.
The little jackal ignored them completely; after finishing its meal, it continued to gaze ahead.
In the wind, there is a faint scent that it can never forget.
.
People living in mountains or grasslands are prone to snow blindness after snowfall.
People with this condition suffer from eye burns caused by prolonged exposure to snow, resulting in the eyes being burned by ultraviolet rays and other light reflected from the snow. Over time, this can cause eye pain and, in severe cases, inflammation.
Therefore, when Wang Tianxiao was tracking them on the road, he was very careful to protect his eyesight and reminded Wang Tianxin to be careful. But who knew that Wang Tianxin was too excited and never took his brother's words to heart.
He was curious about the snowy mountain scenery, but soon his eyes started to hurt terribly and he couldn't stop crying.
"Brother, what's wrong with me? Am I going blind?" He rubbed his eyes a few times, but it didn't work, so he asked Wang Tianxiao nervously.
Wang Tianxiao said irritably, "Isn't it all because you don't listen? I've told you so many times, but you just wouldn't listen. How about it? You're feeling really uncomfortable now, aren't you?"
"I was wrong, I was wrong, so what should we do now?"
Wang Tianxiao felt helpless. He took out a blue handkerchief from his arms, folded it into a strip of cloth about two or three centimeters long, and wrapped it around his younger brother's eyes.
"The conditions here are limited, so let's use this for now. You're not seriously injured, you should be fine in a while."
"It'll be a while," Wang Tianxin said anxiously. "How am I supposed to shoot the slingshot then?"
"You think you can use a slingshot in this state? Forget about shooting anyone else, just focus on protecting yourself."
"All right."
Wang Tianxin lowered his head in frustration.
Seeing his younger brother like this, Wang Tianxiao stopped in his tracks. If he continued walking, he would be going deeper into the mountains.
If he were alone with two dogs and a gun, he could attack or defend, and should be able to protect himself.
But with his younger brother as a burden, it would be very difficult for him to quickly pursue and change positions. And in the mountains, if it becomes difficult to hunt wild animals, it may mean that it becomes easier for the wild animals to kill or even devour you.
Although Wu Wenhua was a strong man, brute force is not always effective in the mountains.
Wang Tianxiao decided to rest for an hour or two. If Wang Tianxin's eyes had not recovered, he would return to the spot and not risk going any further.
He looked around and dug a hole in the snow cave near the mountain peak, where he and Wang Tianxin rested for the time being.
The temperature in the mountains after the snowfall was even lower than when the snow fell. Despite the sun in the sky, there was absolutely no warmth. On the contrary, the sunlight shining on the snow made it seem even colder.
Walking is fine, but if you stay still, your body will quickly be soaked in the -20 degree Celsius temperature, which may cause frostbite.
Digging a snow cave is a common way to shelter from the wind.
It was like a small cave dwelling, a temporary haven.
Wu Wenhua said he wasn't cold, so he and his two dogs stood guard outside. The dogs would run back and forth, and dogs are much more resistant to the cold than people.
Are you still cold?
Wang Tianxiao noticed that Wang Tianxin seemed to be shivering.
Wang Tianxin wanted to say he wasn't cold, but he sneezed first, and a snot bubble suddenly came out.
He awkwardly wiped it away with his hand and smiled.
Wang Tianxiao smiled as well.
His handkerchief was still covering Wang Tianxin's eyes, so there was no way to wipe them; there were no tissues available in this era.
How are your eyes?
"Much better, you really have a way with me, bro."
"Yes, you really need to be careful about this. I told you a long time ago that you must respect the rules of the mountains. Hunting is not a game; it can really kill you. You don't know, people die in the mountains every year."
Wang Tianxiao felt a pang of sadness as he thought of his colleagues who had died in the line of duty in his previous life.
Some memories were actually forgotten in the previous life, but after being reborn, it was as if the box of memories was reopened, and those memories returned to consciousness.
This time, Wang Tianxin did not question it and nodded seriously.
"Today we encountered honey badger, and we ambushed them from a distance. You might think it's easy, but in reality, if you were to face two honey badger head-on, you might not be able to defeat them. They are ferocious carnivores and don't become weaker just because they are small."
Wang Tianxiao stroked the gun in his hand. "Think about that roe deer just now. It was many times bigger and heavier than the honey badger, but it was still quickly surrounded and killed by the honey badger. Do you know why?"
