Chapter 48 Driving Away the Enemy

It took five brothers a week or two of hard work to cut down the trees and a great deal of effort to transport them to the edge of the cliff. He was really unwilling to just abandon them like this, and it would be difficult for him to explain to his brothers.

"Friends, we..."

Zhao planned to try to find a space for negotiation.

"Stop talking nonsense!"

Wang Tianxiao shouted loudly, giving Zhao Jihua no chance, and fired another shot, hitting him directly at the feet.

A small stone was shot and flew up, grazing Zhao Jihua's arm and tearing a hole in his cotton-padded coat.

"roll!"

"roll!"

"You little thief, get lost!"

Whenever Wang Tianxiao opens his mouth, his two younger brothers will shout along.

The brothers inherited their mother Zhang Meifeng's loud voice, which was particularly loud and resonant, echoing through the mountains and bouncing back and forth, making the entire mountain range echo with the alternating voices of the three.

"Oh my god."

Zhao Tuanjie could no longer hold back, so he covered his head and ran down the mountain.

"Fifth brother, you stop right there."

"No way! Brothers, run! There's a limit to how often we can do this. They're seeing how panicked we are and warning us not to be stubborn. If we don't leave now, we might actually get shot."

Timidity is contagious.

With the fifth brother shouting and running, the third and fourth brothers couldn't hold on any longer and ran after him.

In the blink of an eye, only Zhao Jihua and Zhao Jianshe remained at the scene.

"Brother, should we retreat too?" Zhao Jianshe looked at the dark mountain peaks, worried that a bullet might actually come flying at them.

"What's there to be afraid of?" Zhao Jihua was furious with his good-for-nothing brothers. "A bunch of cowards, they haven't even seen a ghost, and they're already scared out of their wits. They're a disgrace to the Zhao family."

"But what do we do now?" Zhao Jianshe asked.

"Keep going, I don't believe they'd actually fire. If they were going to, they would have done it already, right?"

Zhao Jihua's wild instincts were inexplicably aroused. He leaned his old homemade gun against the pile of wood, spat on his palm, and tried to roll the wood down the cliff by himself.

And you know what? He was really strong. He flipped a log off the pile of timber and sent it tumbling down the cliff.

Looking at the results, Zhao Jihua said smugly to his younger brother, "See? I told you they wouldn't dare to drive it..."

"Smack!"

The third shot rang out as expected.

This time, it hit him directly in the thigh.

"Ouch."

Zhao Jihua felt a tremendous force push him more than a meter away. His thigh first went numb, then felt a burning sensation. A few seconds later, the burning sensation became excruciating.

"Damn it, that son of a bitch is really hitting me!"

He clutched his thigh in pain and groaned. The bullet hadn't pierced the major artery, but it had still blasted a small hole in his leg, pulling out all the blood vessels, bones, and muscles.

Fear finally triumphed over courage.

"Big brother, your leg..."

"Going down the mountain, we can't afford to mess with them."

Zhao Jihua quickly replied.

He now believed that if he didn't come down the mountain soon, the next time they might really hit his heart or head.

Those hiding in the mountains are ruthless.

From beginning to end, he couldn't see who the other person was at all.

He was decisive and ruthless, and his marksmanship was even better than that of the old hunter. He would not be able to come to Yangziling easily again in the future.

When did such a powerful gun appear here?

Now, all he could do was tear his long underwear to wrap the wound. Luckily, the bullet hadn't lodged inside, but healing this small hole wouldn't be easy. He remembered someone in the village who had been shot in the leg, but hadn't paid attention and ended up having their leg amputated.

After the bandage was applied, he looked at the dark mountain peaks again, said no more, and was helped by Zhao Jianshe to head down the mountain.

Wang Tianxiao watched the two men slowly walk away before standing up from his ambush and shining his flashlight in the direction where his two younger brothers were hiding.

A moment later, Wang Tianxin and Wang Tiancheng both ran to his side.

"Brother, those people must have been scared away, right?" Wang Tianxin asked.

The three were hiding some distance from the Zhao brothers. Wang Tianxiao was able to see what was happening over there because his gun had a scope and a certain telescopic function.

The two younger brothers could barely see objects hundreds of meters away with the naked eye, relying solely on the light of each other's flashlights in the dark.

Therefore, they only knew that they had fired three shots, but they did not know that they had already injured someone.

Wang Tianxiao gestured to follow the two people in front to see where they came from, so that they could know their enemy and themselves in case anything happened behind them.

He didn't tell his brothers that there was an even more important reason why he was with the two men: to escort them down the mountain.

Blood easily attracts jackals and wolves in the forest, and even bears have a sense of smell dozens of times better than humans.

They often gather by the smell of blood, but now the two brothers are no longer strong enough to fight against more than two jackals.

He injured the leader to warn them and deter them from stealing again, so that he wouldn't have to deal with these people again when he became a forest ranger. But he didn't want the two men to die.

Every year, people in these mountains are killed or eaten by wild animals, but if someone is injured and then eaten, that's going too far.

Stealing something, not hurting anyone, doesn't warrant the death penalty!

Fortunately, since we weren't deep in the mountains, we didn't encounter any wild beasts along the way, and we were safely escorted out of the mountain pass.

As dawn broke, the three brothers stood on high ground watching Zhao Jihua and his brother disappear into the distance. Based on the direction they followed and the location of the cliff where they had thrown the wood, they roughly deduced that they were from Zhao Family Village.
