Chapter 104...

The traps can't be removed; they'll definitely come to me!

At this point, I was no longer judging the issue based on my intuition; my current strength was undeniable.

Even tigers can't beat them, so the next step will definitely be for these wild beasts to migrate en masse and leave this place to live in a new place.

Needless to say, the herbivores, faced with such a herd of predators, had only two choices: either leave the area beforehand or be eaten.

I think even a fool could guess that these animals would choose to leave this place given the current situation.

But I can't leave here. Putting aside those powerful and mysterious creatures, if I encounter a large group of fleeing beasts in unfamiliar territory where I have no advantage, I wonder if they would mind trying my flesh.

So now I have no choice but to stay here. Either I kill them all, or they manage to kill me.

As this is a life-or-death struggle, I have no time to hesitate; this conflict is inevitable. Anyway, I've made ample preparations; let them come if they want.

Such is fate; what can I do?

I continued to wait at home for these ferocious creatures to arrive. The monkeys, still unaware of the seriousness of the situation, continued to pick out raisins from the pebbles and eat them.

These past few days I've been on edge, especially at night. I'm afraid to fall into a deep sleep, lest they come and attack me.

So I had to break my own routine and switch to sleeping during the day and keeping watch at night. This created a shift system between me and the monkeys.

Two more days passed.

That night, the monkeys had finished their day shift and were all asleep in the warehouse. Having slept enough during the day, I've been quite energetic at night these past few days.

The first half of the night was peaceful, and just when I thought today would pass peacefully as usual, I heard a snapping sound from the outermost trap being triggered!

Upon hearing this sound, I immediately sat up, gripping the crossbow and shotgun that I had prepared day and night for the past ten days.

Even with these traps as protection, I still equipped myself with my rattan armor. Now I can say that I have no regrets.

If this still fails, then it can only be attributed to fate.

I struck my machete with basalt, and the sparks immediately ignited the treated torch.

I stuck the torch on the wooden bridge. There was still a thin layer of snow on the ground, and the torchlight, reflected off the snow, was enough to make out the ground.

It's nighttime now, and my worst fears have come true. These guys still chose to launch their attack when everything was quiet and still, and the darkness of the night has somewhat disrupted my battle plans.

The most affected area is the location of the marked nitroglycerin explosive packets. It will still be some time before dawn, and I won't be able to accurately trigger this defense during this period.

Now I can only pin my hopes on the first three lines of defense. If I can hold out until dawn, my chances of winning are still very high.

As the first trap was triggered, the first layer of bamboo raft spike traps then emitted a series of clicking sounds, followed by a strange whirring sound.

However, their cries weren't as loud this time; instead, they sounded more like weak, labored breathing. Without a doubt, the unfortunate creatures caught in the trap were making their final struggle.

Hearing the continuous sound of traps being triggered, I felt I had to do my duty as a host and greet them. In the firelight, I found the rope marked with the number twelve, and then pulled it down hard.

As I pulled the rope in my hand, a faint whooshing sound came from the trees in the darkness in the distance.

"Ugh ugh ugh!"

The group of creatures in the darkness were yelling even louder this time. I wonder if they were satisfied with the arrows I fired.

After a volley of arrows, apart from some weak breathing, there was no further movement from the outer perimeter. I was a little puzzled; how could they have been driven back so quickly after just one wave?

About half an hour later, just when I thought these guys had given up, I heard the sound of traps being triggered simultaneously from the three directions other than the east direction where the trap had been triggered earlier.

Good heavens! They're really cunning. Knowing there's a trap ahead, they won't come here. Instead, they want to use a roundabout approach to deal with me.

Based on their speed of danger perception and accurate judgment alone, they are already miles ahead of tigers and other ferocious beasts. No wonder these guys can squeeze the living space of other ferocious beasts in a short period of time.

However, they are destined to miscalculate today. When I really play it safe, even I am afraid of myself.

I've already set up traps all within a hundred-meter radius. Do you think I'm afraid of you outflanking me?

That's ridiculous!

But these guys were soon more cunning than I could comprehend.

I'm certain that the moment the sound of traps being triggered came from three sides, those guys immediately stopped in their tracks.

This process lasted for more than an hour.

They have an extremely strong learning ability; knowing there is danger ahead, they did not continue to rush forward.

Later, after daybreak, I realized that I had underestimated them. The group that had surrounded us from three sides was not a pack of wild beasts at all, but just a few scouts. Their main force had not separated at all.

I couldn't see them for an hour, and I had no idea what they were doing.

Half an hour later, the trap sounded again, and then the bamboo raft traps were frequently triggered one after another.

However, this time it was a bit strange. In the earlier ones, you could still hear the screams of those mysterious creatures, but later the screams became less and less frequent.

What's going on? How could they possibly get through my trap unharmed?

My third defensive trap was a layer of arrow traps every ten meters. They quickly approached the vicinity of the second layer of arrow traps because I heard the sound of arrows whistling through the air.

This little gadget is an air-emitting device that I set up on the bamboo raft on a whim when I was setting up a trap.

Its principle is that when the bamboo raft is triggered, the bamboo whistle on it will emit a whistling sound as the whistle arrow cuts through the air through a relatively fast airflow.

I never expected that this little gadget, which I had thought of for nighttime operations, would come in so useful now.

Hearing the whooshing sound, I pulled the eleventh rope again.

As the rope was pulled down, the sound of arrows whistling through the darkness filled the air. These creatures clearly hadn't expected the arrows falling from the sky to be aimed at them.

Suddenly, I could hear their footsteps become noticeably more frantic. As the mournful cries rose and fell, the triggered traps seemed to resume their previous panting sounds after hitting the beasts.
