"Roar! Roar! Roar!"
The giant short-faced bear looked up, clutched its head, and let out a series of angry howls.
The giant short-faced bear, having lost an eye, had been driven mad by the excruciating pain.
Unfortunately, Pat had already flown into the sky again with the eyeball, and even though the giant short-faced bear had great strength, it was unable to fly up into the air and grab Pat.
The unfortunate trees, as thick as an arm, became the targets of the giant short-faced bear's venting. With a powerful swing of its paw, the trees fell to the ground one after another, making a series of cracking sounds as if they were made of straw.
Pat seemed to be deliberately mocking the giant short-faced bear. He darted around like a dragonfly skimming the water and swiped his paw across the bear's back, leaving several bloody marks on the bear's ears from which blood continued to flow.
This amount of damage is nothing to a giant short-faced bear, but while the physical harm is minimal, the insult is extremely strong.
The giant short-faced bear, as the apex predator here, had never been treated like this before. After several attempts, it actually focused its attention on the tree I was in.
"Damn it! What do I care if you can't catch them? Are you bullying the weak?"
Watching that giant, short-faced bear, which had completely gone mad, run towards me, the sense of oppression it exerted was still quite intimidating.
Before I climbed this big tree, I wouldn't have minded kowtowing to it and apologizing. But now, I don't believe it's so powerful that it could topple this tree, which is as thick as a bucket.
Even if it were a bear, let alone a rhinoceros with a larger weight, it would still have a herniated disc and still not be able to topple this tree.
Soon, the giant short-faced bear came to the foot of the tree. Looking at me in the tree, it then placed its paws on the tree trunk.
What... what is it going to do? Push the tree? I swallowed nervously, and Top was also close to me. This behemoth was incredibly intimidating.
The next second, the tree-pushing motion didn't happen. Instead, its hind legs lifted off the ground, and to my astonishment, I discovered that this giant bear was already hugging the tree trunk and climbing up the tree!
Holy crap!
This behemoth's abilities have once again broadened my understanding. I thought only smaller bears like the blind black bear were suited to climbing trees, but I never imagined that a one-ton short-faced bear could climb trees.
This scene, which falls outside my area of knowledge, caught me quite off guard. But so what if it can climb trees? Trees are the domain of primates.
We just need to climb a little higher; the giant short-faced bear can't get up to the thinner branches.
Look, it has now reached the place where Top and I were before, but the giant short-faced bear can only stand on the tree and watch Top and me. The branches above are too thin for it to continue climbing.
See, I told you, bears are such animals...
Hmm... what's that sound?
Just then, I thought I heard the sound of logging. Looking down, I saw the giant short-faced bear gnawing on the tree trunk above its head with its teeth.
This tree trunk is a single branch, no bigger than a thigh.
If I want to get down right now, there are only two ways: one is to jump off a tree that's more than ten meters high, provided I have a resurrection coin to come back to life.
The second option is to greet the giant short-faced bear and ask it to let me pass, asking if it would be alright.
However, I think it would be more than happy to help me, and it might even excitedly nibble at my head to show its enthusiasm.
Now I'm really in a bind. The escape was so urgent that I left my shotgun and crossbow behind.
I can still see them by the light of the torch, but that distance has become an insurmountable barrier.
Even my spear was knocked into the bushes by the giant short-faced bear. I had lost most of my equipment by now, like a commander with few men left after a battle.
The only weapons I still have that can be considered highly lethal are the Nepel machete and the blowgun I always carry with me.
However, I think the chances of the blowgun killing this giant short-faced bear outright are about the same as the chances of me going down and negotiating with it to make peace.
This giant short-faced bear seems determined to oppose me to the end; it won't leave until it has gnawed this section of the tree trunk off.
"Damn it, I was going to let you off the hook. But since you're so stubborn, I guess I'll just have to... think about how to escape."
I cursed inwardly, why am I so unlucky today? Every time I go out, something unexpected happens, can't it be an exception just this once?
I still have more than ten blowguns in my hand. Although I can't kill the giant short-faced bear in front of me directly with these, if I can hit some of its vital parts, I can still slow down its movements.
For example, Pat's attack on the eyes was very effective. I know that the Giant Shortfaced Bear still has another intact eye that hasn't gone blind.
Why not turn it into a real bear? Once the plan was made, I immediately began to implement it.
There were many straight, slender branches about the size of a thumb on the branch I was on. I cut one down, took it to Top, and said to it...
"Top, watch closely. In a moment, you'll do exactly what I'm doing: use this branch to harass that guy down there, understand?"
Top looked at the branch in my hand, squeaked twice, and obediently nodded.
I've teased cats before, but this is my first time doing this. Just thinking about it makes me feel incredibly excited.
So I started demonstrating to Top how to tease a large pet that weighs nearly a ton with a stick.
The giant short-faced bear was still clinging to the tree trunk and gnawing on it, as if it were some rare delicacy.
"Hey! Blind man, is that stuff really that delicious?"
I shouted loudly towards the giant short-faced bear below. Upon hearing the shout, the short-faced bear paused, stopped gnawing, and looked up in my direction.
The night was too dark, and since the creature was also black, I could only make out its general outline. However, I did see it raise its head; that was exactly what I wanted.
As soon as the giant short-faced bear raised its head, I started poking at it wildly with the branch, hoping to pop one of its eyes.
But at this moment, the short-faced bear was clearly more alert, and its previously injured eye was still bleeding.
The sudden stab of the branch startled it, and it quickly used its paw to cover its eyes.
I could clearly feel the resistance when I poked the stick. This old bastard has learned his lesson and isn't as arrogant as before.
But it was no use. I started teasing the short-faced bear's nose with a twig, and the rustling sensation made it sneeze repeatedly.
It didn't care about anything else, using one paw to protect its eyes and the other to grab the branch in my hand, clearly displeased with it.
