Chapter 111...

My action seemed to have exceeded the lake monster's expectations, yet it also seemed to be within its calculations.

My bamboo raft was being paddled so high that it looked just like a prey trying to escape on the water.

Just as I expected, my bamboo raft had only traveled a hundred or two meters when Top's screams came from behind again.

But this time I have no intention of stopping. Even if this guy is fast in the water, he is still just an amphibian. Can he be faster than a fish?

In a short period of time, I unleashed my full power, and it still took it a lot of effort to catch up.

I put all my effort into paddling the pole even harder.

The lake monster was surprised that I didn't stop, which further dispelled its doubts. Now it thought I was so frightened that I had lost the ability to resist and was only thinking about escaping.

The bamboo raft sped across the water, with the lake monster close behind, no longer bothering to hide its form.

Top yelled even louder from behind; it seemed he was quite fast, catching up in such a short time.

I'm gambling with my two lives this time; I only have one chance. If I lose, Top and I will surely die here today.

Right now, I'm like a gambler who's gone berserk, with all my chips on the table, ready to reveal my true colors!

I quickly put down the bamboo pole in my hand and used the inertia of the bamboo raft to make it continue to glide forward.

At that moment, I quietly took the shotgun from my hands and gripped it tightly. With my back to the lake monster, I prepared myself, to ensure that I would not arouse its suspicion.

Without the propulsion I was using to paddle, the bamboo raft naturally slowed down. The lake monster in the water was overjoyed, convinced that I had exhausted my strength and was no longer able to escape.

Almost three seconds after my bamboo raft slowed down, I heard a loud splash on the water.

From the moment the water splashed, my heart pounded. I silently counted to three.

one,

two……

Just as I counted to three, I suddenly turned around with my shotgun in hand.

Then the creature's enormous body was right in front of me, its wide-open mouth revealing two rows of sharp teeth, and it was lunging at me from above.

You're in mid-air now, let's see how you dodge!

Because I counted for almost two seconds, my gun was practically pressed against the monster's open maw.

"Bang!"

Two loud roars overlapped, causing the bamboo raft to tremble.

The next second, the two incredibly powerful dumdum bullets exploded inside the lake monster's enormous head, instantly filling the air with a mist of blood, and the lake monster's brains and flesh splattered all over me.

The lake monster was also thrown backward by the enormous impact of the shotgun shells, deviating from its original position of attacking me. In the instant it fell, what I saw was a mangled body with its head completely flattened.

Just as I was about to let out a long sigh of relief, I felt a sudden tightening around my ankle. I don't know when, but the dying lake monster had wrapped its snake-like tail around my foot!

Realizing what was happening, I quickly dropped the basket and gun. Just as I did so, I heard Top scream.

The next second, I was pulled into the icy abyss by that entangled tail. It really is a beast.

I sank very quickly, and in just a short while I had gone down five or six meters. I aimed my machete at the creature's tail and slashed several times.

However, because he couldn't exert any force underwater, he couldn't cut off the tail that had crocodile-like armor for the time being.

I held my breath, trying to calm my wildly beating heart. I aimed the blade at the gap at the tail joint and inserted it, then slowly pulled and cut back and forth.

With the increased resistance in the water, cutting is more practical than chopping.

The lake water was very cold, and the pressure increased the further down I went. I felt dizzy, and a buzzing sound kept echoing in my ears.

Just as I was about to lose consciousness, the tail was finally cut off thanks to my efforts.

I fought off the dizziness in my head and swam towards the surface with all my might. When I saw the light on the surface, my will to survive became even stronger. The next moment, a head popped out from under the water.

I gripped the edge of the bamboo raft and opened my mouth, greedily inhaling the fresh air. When Top saw me surface again, he jumped up and down on the raft with joy.

It tried to pull me up, but unfortunately it was too small to get me onto the raft.

I forced a smile at Top, then gritted my teeth and flipped over with a splash, finally climbing back onto the bamboo raft.

Top busied itself checking on me, looking for any missing limbs, and only when it found that I was still in good health did it relax.

My fur coat was completely soaked, and I had to take it off immediately.

The weather is still very cold. If I continue to wear these wet clothes, the icy water will accelerate the loss of my body heat.

Although it will still be cold after taking off your clothes, at least your skin can stay dry and you won't experience prolonged hypothermia in the short term.

As soon as I took off my clothes, a biting gust of cold wind hit me, making me shiver. To warm up my body as quickly as possible, I started doing push-ups on the bamboo raft with my bare bottom exposed.

I was freezing cold, but after doing twenty or thirty push-ups (not quite right), I finally felt a lot warmer.

I picked up the bamboo pole again, and now I could see the mountains to the east. If we rowed for another twenty minutes or so, Top and I would be able to land on the east shore of the lake.

Twenty minutes later, we arrived at the east shore of the lake. Before getting ashore, I habitually glanced around at my surroundings.

Although most animals have fled, it's still best to be cautious.

I noticed that the ants stopped chasing me after I fired the gun on the water. I suppose the water absorbed the vibrations of the gunshot, preventing them from reaching the land.

I carried a basket on my back and held a pile of wet fur coats in my arms as I went up to the lake shore with Top.

My body is still very cold. I need to find a sheltered place to start a fire as soon as possible, otherwise I may suffer hypothermia and go into shock under these conditions.

Top often helps me start a fire, so it knows some basic things. I told Top to go find some dry tinder, while I started gathering some firewood in the bushes.

There's no shortage of firewood, thanks to the storms before winter. Now there are broken, dry branches everywhere; just shake off the snow and they're ready to use.

I found two pieces of wood, carved a groove in them with a knife, then put some dried tinder that Top had found in them and began rubbing it on another piece of flattened wood.

I've mastered this technique through hundreds of trials, and soon flames leaped up, and a bonfire was burning.
