Chapter 170...

Never mind all that for now, my stomach is completely empty and rumbling. If I don't replenish it soon, my body will probably collapse.

As for Top's compensation, there's nothing a bowl of taro noodles can't fix; if there is, then have another bowl.

I still have a lot of taro on hand, and the place where I store it is cool and dry enough that I can eat it for a month without any problem.

With a new family member joining us, it's certainly a joyous occasion. I've decided to make a lot of taro starch and then use it to make noodles.

I think Top will absolutely love this thing.

To obtain taro starch, you first need to crush the taro and turn it into a smooth taro paste. The pestle for processing taro is easy to find, but the container for washing the taro paste is a bit of a hassle.

With so many taro, my jar definitely couldn't hold them all, so rinsing the starch in water was an essential task.

Now it's time for me to get a bigger container.

This is a tropical rainforest, so there's no shortage of soil. I used to make some pottery back in my hometown, but after discovering gold, a material with incredible malleability, I now mostly use gold to forge my everyday containers.

I no longer expect to find an open-pit gold mine here. However, while exploring the hilly area to the east, I discovered a type of white clay not far from my dwelling.

This white isn't a very pure white; rather, it's a slightly yellowish-white.

I've been in a great mood these past few days. I have enough food stored in my place, so I don't have to worry about the food for survival for the time being. So now I'm planning to make some everyday utensils.

The next morning, I tied the harpy eagle up and left it at home. I then carried my basket and went with Top to the eastern hilly area we had explored.

Although we had plenty of food, I still planned to use my blowgun to call out to the birds we encountered along the way.

I was quite lucky this time. Before Top and I even reached the place where we found the white clay, we had already caught two grouse and a huge frog.

This frog looks a lot like a bullfrog, but it's several times larger. I estimate it's over 40 centimeters long and weighs more than eight to ten pounds.

It's bigger than the two grouse I have in my hand. It's probably a species of frog in the same category as the giant frog, and maybe it's a prehistoric animal that went extinct in our world.

This guy is incredibly strong; even after being hit by my blowgun, he was still able to jump and run away.

If I hadn't chased it closely and given it three more injections, this giant frog might have actually escaped from my dining table.

Frog meat is generally more tender and delicious than poultry meat. I can't wait to go back, heat up the oil, and make a delicious frog hot pot.

We continued our journey and arrived at the place where we found the white clay.

Because of the heavy rain a few days ago, the dead leaves near the clay were washed away by the water, and now all the clay is exposed.

The slightly yellowish clay I saw before was probably mixed with some yellow mud after the rain. Now, the surface mud has been completely cleaned away by the rain, revealing the white clay.

I was overjoyed to see this pure white clay. This clay can not only be used to fire pottery, but also as a glazing material for pottery.

This type of clay is also called kaolin. Kaolin has a wide range of uses and can be used in ceramics, refractory materials, rubber, papermaking, paint, cement, petroleum, chemicals, cosmetics, and other fields.

In the ceramics industry, it is used not only for ceramic blanks but also for ceramic glazes; in the field of refractory materials, it can be used for refractory materials in the metallurgical industry and refractory materials in the high-end glass manufacturing industry.

In the paper industry, it can be used for filling and coating paper; in the rubber and plastics industries, it can enhance the properties of rubber and plastics.

In addition, calcined kaolin can also be used as a cosmetic additive, a carrier in the pharmaceutical field, and an adjuvant in pharmaceutical tablets.

This substance is a good industrial raw material worldwide, and I don't know how to describe my current feelings.

It is no exaggeration to say that with this white clay, I could perfectly replicate the white porcelain bowls used for eating in the civilized world.

Moreover, this thing is very resistant to fire, so it can be used to make crucibles for iron smelting and other similar processes in the future.

In short, this thing has a wide range of uses, and if I could, I would really like to transport all of this white clay back home.

You know, this clay is excellent raw material for making floor tiles. I was thinking, given enough time, what would it look like if I made a batch of floor tiles and covered the entire floor of my house with them?

However, this is just my idle speculation. As for the shelter, I only care about its safety. I don't want to spend too much time on the decoration.

After some thought, I realized that what I need most right now is a large container for water, and some large soup bowls, spoons, and the like.

These clay pieces are not light. My basket wasn't full, but when it was about half full, the weight made my shoulders ache. I estimate it weighed over 60 or 70 kilograms.

Half a day had passed by the time the clay was transported home.

Top and I quickly prepared some food for it. The harpy eagle seemed to want to eat some more, but we didn't feed it any more.

Newly tamed eagles should not be fed too much, otherwise they will not be very dependent on humans, which will be detrimental to their later training.

A state of being half-starved or half-full can stimulate the hunting desire of eagles and also better control their behavior.

Making a piece of pottery is not difficult, but making a more beautiful piece of pottery requires some tools.

When I was a child, I saw the workers in a pottery factory placing the mixed clay on a rotating disc, then rotating the disc and shaping the clay by hand.

Those discs typically have a steel-core bearing base underneath. Manufacturing bearings is quite complicated, so I think we should temporarily use simpler structures to replace them.

Regarding the turntable, I first need several heavy wooden planks. This will ensure the turntable's center of gravity is concentrated in the center, making it rotate more smoothly.

I brought a saw with me when I came out, and now it's proving useful. I first sawed down a dead tree about the size of a bowl. This kind of tree had been dried in the sun, so it wouldn't easily warp when used to make planks; it was a good material.

I carried the dead tree to my vicinity, and used some sticks to make two tripods to hold the wood in place. The bark of this tree is very susceptible to insect infestation, so I had to remove it with a knife beforehand.
