When I woke up the next day and looked out the window, it was already noon. I had been very tired before, but I had rarely slept so late. Because it had become a habit in Wuyang, I would usually get up automatically at eight in the morning at the latest. But now, it seemed that it was already noon, at least eleven or twelve o'clock.
After waking up, the first thing I did was to check on Yunwen's physical condition. She was still unconscious, her whole body was hot, and her breathing was weak. I listened to her heartbeat and it sounded a little rapid. If the fever continued to be so high, she would either get pneumonia, or in a serious case, her brain might be damaged, but it would still leave sequelae.
Seeing her like this, and I was basically illiterate in medicine, I was getting anxious, and only one idea popped into my head, to find Bailu and ask her to save Yunwen urgently, to help her reduce the high fever and recover.
I held Yunwen's hot and tender hand and said, "Hold on for now. I'll take you to find Bailu. You'll be fine soon. Come on, hold on. You'll be fine once you get through this."
She frowned slightly, but her eyelids never opened.
I picked her up and went downstairs. The horse was standing in the stable with its eyes closed. It opened its eyes when it saw me coming. It was about to carry Yunwen up, but it clearly remembered that there were many huge wolf spiders blocking the mountain road. If the horse was frightened and ran around, Yunwen would be taken away with her. At worst, she would be thrown off the cliff and die.
So I fumbled around the trough again, and I actually found another rein, but it was buried in the soil and covered by weeds, so it was nowhere to be found. But now I found it after a careful search.
I quickly fastened Sanfu. The saddle on the horse's back seemed to be much more convenient. At least it would be easier for Yunwen to stay on it and not fall down. After finishing these, I drank the water in the military bottle, refilled it, then put on the backpack, took the blunt sword, pulled the reins, and led Sanfu back to the top of the mountain.
The first half of the journey was basically fine, mainly because Sanfu was not very obedient and was afraid of this road. He thought I was going to hand it back to the big spider that would eat it. But I kept patting its head and pulling it hard, and finally forced it to take this "road of no return". The scary thing was that in the middle section, you could hear a lot of creaking noises on the right side of the mountain wall.
Thinking that there must be some guys coming, and more than one, I pulled out my gun, ready to fight at any time.
"Come on! Come on, buddy, I'm going to roast spider legs for dinner tonight!" I said to give myself courage and continued to move forward.
Sure enough, not long after, many wolf spiders came down from the cliff and surrounded us. Each of them was more than one meter tall, and the big ones were even 1.5 meters high, reaching near my shoulders. It was really scary. Now Yunwen's condition has worsened, and I have to hurry back to the top of the mountain. I didn't even think about bypassing this road blocked by spiders, so encountering them was expected, but seeing such a scene, I was scared to the point of my legs going weak.
There are at least forty or fifty of them, right?
I pulled out my gun. Even though there was only one bullet in it, it could only scare them and give me a chance to stay alive.
Bang!
A gunshot rang out, and I pulled Sanfu forward quickly. However, the gunshot did not scare the spiders, but instead stimulated them, making them attack even more vigorously. Besides, Sanfu was so frightened that his legs went limp, and he didn't want to take another step, so no matter how hard I pulled him, it was useless.
Wrong decision!
Without bullets, the gun in my hand was just scrap metal, so I quickly threw it away. The only thing I could use to defend myself was the blunt sword, so I held it with both hands, thinking that even if I had to swing it, I had to make a way out so that Yunwen could get back in time and receive medical treatment.
Just then, I heard a sound breaking through the air behind me. It was the spider raising its body high and scratching with its toes. The direction was wrong, at its back. It was planning to attack Sanfu and Yunwen on its back. I quickly turned my head and saw that its toes were a few inches away from Yunwen's back. I immediately swung out, like swinging a baseball bat, and hit her leg hard. Fortunately, I stopped early.
There was a loud bang!
What I didn't expect was that the spider was pushed back dozens of steps by inertia, and during the process it squeezed out many spiders behind it. Although it looked fine, suddenly a mouthful of green liquid spurted out of its ugly mouth, and its whole body went limp. Not long after, I heard a burst from its abdomen, and juice flew everywhere!
Lao Tzu said: "Great success seems like a deficiency, but its use is not exhausted. Great fullness seems like a rush, but its use is endless. Great straightness seems like bending, great cleverness seems like clumsiness, great eloquence seems like silence."
The blunt sword in my hand seems to have no edge and is extremely clumsy, but in fact it is the work of nature. Although it has no edge, it can kill and be invisible. Just a rush of force is enough to match how many powerful weapons in the world? Although it looks clumsy, it is actually the best weapon in the world.
Not only was I confused, the horse was confused, and those spiders were confused too!
Wolf spiders are warlike, but now they are also worried. After all, if it is food at their fingertips, they will go to great lengths to snatch it and eat it, or make a dense spider web and keep it as a reserve food. But what if they encounter a natural enemy? They will also consider whether to fight with it. Now there are enough food left by them near the mountain wall. With us, there will not be much food, and with us, there will not be much food. Is it advisable to fight for life?
They hesitated, and I held the blunt sword and was on guard at all times. Not long after, the spiders returned to the cliff hanging on the spider silk. I also breathed a sigh of relief. My body was already soaked with hot sweat, and my fingers kept shaking. I didn't know where I got the strength to do this, but fortunately, we were excluded from the range of edible food.
Fortunately, I did not encounter a group of hungry spiders, nor did I invade their offspring, so I did not force them to fight for their lives. Only then did they retreat. Adult wolf spiders do not necessarily live in groups. They do not have a certain social system like ants, which means they are more selfish. If one of them dies, they will only feel that I have posed a threat to them, but will not think that I have killed their companions.
Without ethnicity, there won’t be too many emotional ties.
At this moment, my brain was shocked again, more violently than yesterday, so much so that I squatted down and the tinnitus in my ears took a long time before it subsided. The aftereffect was really strong. I don’t know if it was related to some kind of potential stimulated by my body, or if it was really because of this blunt sword that I was able to repel the spider, but in any case, it caused my body to be weak for a long time before I could barely recover. The price was still quite high.
After I felt a little better, I led Sanfu back to the top of the mountain. Finally, we crossed the mountain road, passed the spider that I burned to death, walked past the tent where Yunwen and I stayed on our first night, then passed the fruit tree area, walked all the way back to the pond, and then went forward to the mouth of a hillside. I knelt on the ground with a splitting headache.
At this moment, I heard a familiar voice calling from behind: "Brother Zhou Bo!"
I stuck the blunt sword into the ground and barely supported myself. I turned around and saw that it was Song Bailu and Song Yingchun. However, just as I was relieved and ready to say hello, I found that when I looked at Bailu, there was a double image. Then I could only reluctantly say, "Bai...Bailu, save Yunwen, please!"
After saying that, I collapsed to the ground. With my last bit of consciousness I could still hear the sound of my head hitting the ground. The world was spinning and I blacked out again.
When I woke up, I still had a headache. I saw Yingchun playing with the horse Sanfu and feeding it grass, but the horse always ignored her. Bailu was stewing medicine nearby. There was a strong smell of medicine. I got up slightly and looked around. It was still the same earth slope, but a temporary place to sleep under the rain had been built with earth and stones, and there were also some wooden tables and chairs, all made with riveting technology, which was quite good.
But after watching it for a week, I still feel something is wrong.
At this moment, I widened my eyes and saw Yingchun coming towards me, and hurriedly asked anxiously: "Sister Yingchun, where is Yunwen? Why can't I see her?"
