Chapter 19: Seafood Dinner

There was a heavy rain last night, which caused the sea water to rise a lot. It was sunny today. It was almost afternoon when I arrived. A lot of time has passed since the rain stopped. The water level on the coast has dropped significantly, and there are really a lot of shells stranded on the shore. I put them one by one in my backpack. Some of the shells and clams are really big and look very fleshy.

Or maybe we have been suffering too much recently, so it was like a gift from God that I actually found three stranded fish on the coast. They had been exposed to the sun and were far away from the sea, so they had already died. They were certainly not fresh, but after just one night, the fish meat was still edible. I quickly put them back into my backpack, unable to suppress my excitement.

Having suffered from the killer crabs before, I still try to be cautious when approaching the edge of the sea. Before getting close, I throw stones into the water. Given the intelligence of the killer crabs, they will surely rush out if there is an ambush. However, the water was so calm that it seemed that they had already returned to the deep sea. As the weather turned colder, they should not be able to stay on the shore or even in the shallow sea.

I picked up a lot of shellfish, about half a bag of food, and three sea fish, which was a pretty good harvest. When I was about to turn around and go back, I saw a blood-red figure on the shore. I panicked. Could it be that these killer crabs have mutated and know how to go around and cut off my retreat?

I pulled out the newly sharpened bayonet and stepped forward, feeling weak.

"If you want to eat me, you should be able to act now, right? What does this mean?" I muttered.

The one with the red shell and white edges never moved, and I didn't hear any large-scale creaking sounds.

It was not until I got closer that I discovered the reason. The killer crab had already dried up, and its claws were pulled off by something. I can only say that this guy was extremely strong. It pulled them off before the killer crab was alive, dragging out all the body tissues inside it. The ground was covered with light blue, translucent crab blood.

The claws and arm limbs were crushed, but the crab meat was still there. It seemed that it was torn apart when it was pulled.

"So strong? A silverback gorilla? The grip strength is amazing. I think this is the monster mentioned in the diary." I couldn't help but admire.

I heard that an adult silverback gorilla can easily break the spine of a cheetah and can lift 1,800 pounds. It has amazing strength and grip. The killer crab arm and the scarecrow waist next to the deserted house are probably its masterpieces. It is no exaggeration to call it a monster.

However, the standing height of a silverback gorilla is at most 175cm. I have seen branches that could only be reached by a two-meter tall person being bent. If they are the same species, then my speculation is still wrong.

I can't care about so much. No matter how much I analyze, it's just speculation. The most urgent thing is to get the things back before dark, otherwise the fishy smell in my backpack will attract the beasts in the dark.

I put my two crab hands on the killer crab, then dragged one of its legs and carried a full load of food towards the Huoquan old house.

After a lot of trouble, we finally transported it back and arrived at the house before dark. Bailu and Yunwen hurried over to help me. Everyone was drooling at the sight of this huge crab.

The hard days of eating dried red dates and wild vegetables for a few days are finally over, and I have to have a seafood feast today.

"So many! That's great! It seems like this is enough for us to eat for a week. You're so awesome, Zhou Bo. We're so lucky to have you." Song Bailu flattered him.

"These are left on the shore after the tide receded. It's not like I came here alone to hunt. I'm just responsible for carrying them. There's no need to thank me." I said.

"That's because you understand this principle, otherwise we wouldn't even think about it, and you deserve to starve to death." Song Bailu said.

"Okay, I admit that I have some experience." I felt a little proud, but when I turned around, I saw Yunwen helping to drag the items and working silently.

"Go and call everyone here so I can announce something," I said.

After Bai Lu left, I went to find Yunwen alone. Seeing that she seemed worried, I immediately said, "Put it down. I'll take care of it later. What's wrong with you? Are you unhappy because I didn't take you with me?"

She shook her head, smiled reluctantly and said, "I'm fine. Come over quickly. Everyone is waiting for you to make an announcement."

"Well, tell me if anything happens, okay? Don't keep it in your heart. If you feel unwell, tell me immediately." I said.

She nodded.

She was fine in the morning, but after spending some time alone with Yingchun, she became worried. I had noticed this for a long time.

After everyone arrived, I said to everyone, "Bai Lu, since you two sisters are going to return to the team, you must follow the rules I set from now on. You can't make exceptions. You must establish an established order. Can you do this?"

"Okay." Song Bailu said.

"What? You wake people up only to shout out these slogans. Isn't that boring?" Song Yingchun complained.

"This is not a slogan, but a rule I have to set. No one is allowed to make an exception in the future. Otherwise, you won't be able to eat a single bite of the food I brought back today. If you disobey, I will punish you or even expel you. Do you understand?" I said.

"Who are you trying to scare..." Song Yingchun wanted to argue again, but was stopped by Bai Lu.

"Okay, now that the rules are set, let me get down to business. No matter how hungry we are, food is limited on a deserted island, so we must distribute the food reasonably and make sure every meal contains meat and vegetables, with a balanced nutrition. Survival is a problem, and we must learn to save food and eat reasonably." I said.

"You're right. If you eat some and save some, you won't run out of food. I agree. I also suggest that you have two meals a day, and each meal should be 50% to 70% full, which is enough to support your body's function." Bai Lu said.

"Since Bai Lu has said so to the medical doctor, let's do it this way. This suggestion is approved. Now we have a total of three sea fish, twenty-seven shellfish, and a killer crab with relatively complete crab meat. These are all our food resources. My distribution is that the sea fish will be dried as reserve food, and the shell meat will be used as a supplementary meal. It will be divided into nine days' worth, three shells and one crab leg per day, until they are all eaten." I said.

"You really know how to have fun. We won't be happy every day. What's the point of having food?" Song Yingchun got up angrily and went back to sleep.

"It's okay, it's okay. I'll explain everything to her later. Don't worry. But Zhou Bo, I want to tell you that without salt for pickling, the sea fish will get infested with worms or rot within two days, so you have to take this into consideration." Bai Lu said.

"Fine salt, right? The killer crabs have gone back to the bottom of the sea these two days. I will use sea water to make some. I can put the sea fish in a cool place. Will it be okay for them to last until tomorrow?" I asked.

"No problem. The weather is quite cold. Sometimes the temperature can drop to almost below zero at night. You can stay in the spring water for a while. I will change the water as often as possible." Bai Lu said.

"Okay, that's the arrangement. Yunwen, you will be responsible for helping me follow up on the inventory levels. Remember to remind me when it's running low." I asked.

"Well, no problem." Yunwen said.

After making these arrangements, Bai Lu went to prepare for cooking, while Yunwen helped to organize the food. Except for the killer crab, all the others were poured into an earthen basin and stored with spring water.

I went to the field alone and saw that Yunwen had already drawn a piece of land of about 200 square meters with charcoal. The soil inside had been turned over, and the stones and the like had been picked out. Everything was ready, and I was ready to sow seeds and plant in the field.
