Chapter 439: Swamp Thrills

I walked forward, squatted down to check the footprints, and confirmed again and again that they were indeed Bai Lu's footprints. The footprints looked like they were made not long ago, probably about the day before. Obvious marks could still be seen. Yunwen looked with me, and I told her about the situation. She was a little surprised. We all knew that she might be there, but we never knew that she could still live until now.

"How did she do it?" I couldn't help but mutter.

"Zhou Bo, in fact, if Song Bailu is okay, I think it would be okay for us to scold her a few words. After all, we have been partners for such a long time. I really hope she can live well. Besides, she must be having a unhappy life staying in such a ghost place. In this case, let's just treat it as if she was punished, okay?" Yunwen asked.

"Let's wait until we find it," I replied.

If Song Bailu really left because she was ashamed and punished herself by fleeing to another place, I might consider Yunwen's suggestion. But that was clearly not the case. Song Bailu left because she did something that almost killed all of us, and she fled for fear of my punishment. So she took a backpack of food with her, fled far away, and disappeared without a trace.

Therefore, these are her means of self-protection, not self-punishment. Therefore, if I meet her, I will not be as soft-hearted as Yunwen. If I find her and she asks to come back on her own initiative, then she must be punished. Whether I can let her return to the team after the punishment depends on my mood. My current mood and intention are mostly to expel her forever.

Judging from the footprints, she was obviously heading into the forest. After checking around, I saw some footprints coming from the river and then going back into the forest. Many of them came from her. What was she doing? Was she going back and forth here to get the dirty river water to drink?

I really couldn't figure it out, but we didn't come to Xidao specifically to find her. We came here to find that tribe, so we put the matter of the footprints aside for the time being and prepared to leave here with Sanfu. But not far ahead, I found Bailu's footprints. At the same time, along with this footprint, I saw a larger footprint next to it. From here, they are only two steps apart, with the slightly larger footprint in front and Bailu's footprint behind. It is easy to think that they may be traveling together.

As for the slightly larger footprints, I also spotted something. They were the human footprints that I saw when I first arrived at West Island. These footprints were indeed human footprints, but it was obvious that the proportions of their feet were very different from ours. With the same length, their width was wider, so the shoe prints looked a bit disharmonious.

In addition, their footprints are deeper and wider, which is obviously noticeable when compared with Bai Lu's footprints. Therefore, I guess that the person wearing shoes next to him is either big and strong or wearing heavy shoes. Just now, Bai Lu's footprints went back and forth nearby, and then she followed the person with the big footprints and walked side by side. Could it be that they know each other?

Could it be that the person who left these big footprints is from that tribe? After all, there won't be other tribes on a West Island, right? If so, I will follow these footprints and maybe I can find the location of that tribe.

Yunwen was holding Sanfu's hand from behind, and I was in the front, following their footsteps and moving forward.

The trees here are all twisted and strange, and there are a few trees that Yunwen and I have known before, called ghost vines. We have seen them before on the grassy slopes in the buffalo area. Its vines will wrap around living things and suck their blood to nourish itself. We have suffered from it at that time and were terrified when we heard about it. However, in this place, there are countless of them and they can be seen everywhere. Common trees such as pine and cypress are not common, and some of them grow particularly crooked.

Everywhere was eerie, and every place looked like a mass grave or some abandoned cemetery. I started shaking all over after taking a few steps.

"Zhou Bo, I always have a bad feeling." Yunwen said.

I held her hand and felt her trembling. There was indeed a special atmosphere here, but it was not something to be so scared of.

"It's okay, I'm here, and Sanfu will protect you. If you're scared of this, you might as well go back first. I'll try to find the antidote and bring back the nectar of life." I said.

Yunwen hurried forward and hugged my arms tightly, so that I touched some soft spots from time to time. She said with a coquettish voice, "Please don't say such things again. How can I abandon you?"

I smiled and hugged her, holding her slender waist and kissing her on the top of her head. Only then did she soften her attitude. I said, "Okay, I won't say that anymore. Let's go quickly. It should be about three or four hours before dark. Before that, we'd better make a quick decision to avoid staying here and causing more terrible things to happen."

She hummed obediently, and I let go of her a little. Then we kept moving forward along the footprints. But after walking for a while, the footprints suddenly disappeared. The road ahead seemed a little strange. Just as Yunwen was leading Sanfu to move forward, I vaguely heard a gurgling sound on the ground. I immediately understood what was going on and shouted at Yunwen, "Stop!"

Fortunately, we shouted in time, and only one of Sanfu's feet was stuck in the mud. He was pulled down by a strong force, and it took us a lot of effort to pull him out. We were both shocked for a while.

Yunwen's sixth sense, the disappearance of Bailu's footprints and the gurgling sound, the three simultaneous warnings made me judge that I had escaped a disaster. Now, we have been in the forest for less than ten minutes and the danger has already appeared. This is really not a safe place.

But we couldn't get through this swamp, so how did Bai Lu and the people he was traveling with get through? This made me wonder, could it be that the other party could fly and take Bai Lu across, but this didn't make sense, after all, if he could fly, why would he have to walk this path and leave so many footprints?

Just when I was wondering whether to take this path, I suddenly felt something strange, as if something was missing, and when I turned around, I was stunned!

Yunwen, who was just beside Sanfu and me, disappeared out of thin air!

"Yunwen? Yunwen! Zhang Yunwen! My wife..." I shouted.

Just at this moment, Sanfu let out a neigh, as if it was a warning, and then a net suddenly flew from the tree and covered me completely. For a moment, I was trapped in the net, unable to move, and my vision was severely restricted. The more I moved, the tighter the net would be. I dared not escape because I could no longer tell the directions. If I ran in the wrong direction, I might fall into the swamp.

The swamp could even suck Sanfu's legs down. If I fell in, how could I be saved? I could only minimize my movements and prepare to draw the Golden Sword at my waist. But before I could do so, a figure suddenly rushed over and excitedly carried me on his shoulders. Then, endless "oh oh oh" sounds came from the woods.

Through this net, I could see very limited things. I could only see that the other person's back was covered with fiery red tattoos and his long black hair reached his shoulders. There were clanging sounds when he walked, and I could see that he was wearing metal boots. It seemed that the person who came to catch me was from that tribe. What surprised me was that he walked through the swamp as if it were flat ground, except that the bumpy feeling was a little stronger, but the rest was no different from walking on ordinary mountain terrain.

The whole forest became lively. Those who had been hiding in the corners of the forest had appeared. They were shouting and screaming without restraint, and each voice seemed extremely sharp. If I only listened to the sound, I would think they might be some kind of monkeys. After all, how can a person's voice be so sharp and piercing.

I also heard Sanfu's screams from behind, and it seemed that it had been knocked down too. I didn't expect that a dragon horse could be captured so easily. I really don't know what abilities these savages have, and what this broken net is made of.

"Yunwen, where did you take Yunwen?" I struggled again.

However, as I struggled, the net became tighter and tighter, leaving marks on my face and body.

At this moment, I smelled a change in the odor around me. I looked around. Although it was not clear, I could see that those were the bones of living people. Some were hanging, some were piled, and some were racked. It was chilling. The key point was that these were definitely human bones.
