Chapter 44: Stripping the Bed to Feet

Listening to what this girl said always made me feel upset, as if she was targeting Yunwen on purpose. I also hoped that Song Bailu could really take good care of her, but I was too sleepy now to care about so much.

Sleeping on this warm kang, with the warmth on my back and the good indoor temperature, I soon fell into a comfortable sleep...

I had an exceptionally sweet sleep.

But I was soon awakened by some noisy noises. It turned out that the Song sisters were talking. I guessed that Song Bailu was scolding Song Yingchun. So I continued to pretend to sleep and listen to what they said.

"Keep your voice down, or you'll wake everyone up." Bai Lu said.

"I know. Did you hear what I said? There is something wrong with Zhang Yunwen. She is definitely very scheming. Don't think that she is a good person or that she looks like a close friend. She would do anything to maintain a good relationship with Zhou Bo. I saw it clearly last night. If we hadn't been in her way, I think she might have done something shameful with Zhou Bo for this." Song Yingchun said.

"It's normal. In a place like this, what you need most is a backer. Even if she really did this, there's nothing wrong with it. And I don't think she is such a superficial person. Everything is just speculation, right? Okay, go to bed while there's still some time, and don't be upset anymore. If you really want to compete with Zhang Yunwen, you have to learn from her how to be gentle, how to make Zhou Bo fall in love with you, and don't throw tantrums in troubled times." Song Bailu said.

"If I like you, I like you. I don't like to use so many tricks to get a man, or to deceive others into being friends with me, do you understand? Forget it, you can't spit out ivory from a dog's mouth. Do whatever you want. I have said what I should say, you can do whatever you want." Song Yingchun said loudly.

After saying that, she lay down with a thud, no longer wanting to continue communicating.

But her voice was so loud that I realized Yunwen next to me should have been woken up as well, and she must have heard some of what she said.

After a long time, when Song Yingchun was snoring, I pretended to wake up. When Bai Lu saw me wake up, she greeted me and pretended nothing had happened.

But I always feel that if this continues, something bad will happen. After all, human nature becomes sinister when there is no restraint, just like a forest fire, which is out of control. So I still want to do something before things get serious.

I picked up the bronze pot, poured myself a cup of tea, and sobered myself up. I said, "Bai Lu, I thought about it last night. Yingchun still needs to be punished and not spoiled. What do you think?"

She was slightly startled, but with her intelligence, she immediately realized that I had heard their conversation.

"Brother Zhou Bo, please give me two more days. That girl has a stubborn temper and I will try to appease her, okay? Also, please talk to her more in these two days. If it doesn't work, punish her again, okay?" Song Bailu said with a pleading tone.

"Okay, but it's not good because she destroyed the order and harmony we worked so hard to establish. We are losing the big picture for the small. You are smart and you understand the basic rules of survival in the wild," I said.

"I'll take responsibility for her. If she really does that, you can punish me again." Song Bailu said.

In the next few days, I tried to get close to Song Yingchun and asked Yunwen to be friends with her, but this girl took advantage of me and not only did she not accept my kindness, she also thought that it was my right to do so and insulted Yunwen. If I did not do what she wanted, she would immediately tell her sister about it, which led to more misunderstandings in our relationship.

Of course, our lives cannot revolve around Song Yingchun alone. There are still many things we need to deal with. For example, there is not enough firewood, so we have to saw some dry branches and dry them, get ice from the well, look after the constant temperature room, and collect the few edible wild vegetables. The most important thing is that salt is consumed relatively quickly, and making fine salt is both dangerous and troublesome, and it takes a lot of time.

So most of the time, I couldn't satisfy Song Yingchun, who had a bad temper. She made trouble every other day, and we really couldn't afford it. The most important thing was that Yunwen would be relatively embarrassed. She just wanted to get along well with everyone, but she never expected that Song Yingchun would think she was scheming and ridiculed her every day. She felt really bad.

As a result, Song Bailu had to keep her distance from Yunwen and dared not say too many words to her, for fear that her sister would become jealous and make a fuss every day.

After all, these are matters of human relations. I cannot trigger them with any rules or the like. They are mostly private matters, so at most I can scold and scare them when they go too far. But it is too difficult to put an end to them. It is difficult to change one's nature, so how could Song Yingchun's temperament change because of a few words?

He just said what he had to say without any consideration for others.

The night of the fourth day was also the last night I could eat fish. My original plan was to eat half a fish a day. After all, even in winter, the fish would not be fresh if kept in ice for too long. Four days was a relatively reasonable plan.

Yunwen and Bailu were sitting on the stone that had been moved in recently, each preparing the fish and the broth. They didn't dare say a word to each other, for fear that Yingchun would find some evidence against them and start a lecture again.

We had been busy all day, so I was a little tired, so I sat down somewhere. But then Song Yingchun came over and deliberately sat on my lap. Yunwen couldn't help but see it, so she quickly turned her face away.

Song Yingchun's face was full of pride.

"Yingchun, what are you doing? There are plenty of places to sit, why do you have to sit on my lap?" I asked.

"Why are you angry? You mean that Zhang Yunwen can sit, so I can't, right? I want to sit! Don't act like a gentleman. I saw what happened between you and Zhang Yunwen that night. Why do you have to act so conservative?" Song Yingchun said sarcastically.

Yunwen quickly turned around and said, "Yingchun, don't spread rumors. Nothing happened between Zhou Bo and me. Don't say such things."

I stood up immediately, and Song Yingchun immediately fell to the ground. She stood up angrily and said, "Zhang Yunwen, stop pretending to be pitiful every day! You know what you have done, but I will tell you clearly today that you have a fiancé, so don't think about other men all day long. Zhou Bo kissed me, so he should be responsible for me, so don't think about him, understand?"

As soon as these words were spoken, Song Bailu also turned around, and she and Yunwen both stared at me.

I really have no way to defend myself. I didn't expect that I would end up in such trouble with this girl.

"Zhou Bo, they don't believe me. So, you kiss me again so that they can see clearly. It will also make some people pay attention to their own limits." Song Yingchun said proudly.

I sighed and said angrily, "Song Yingchun, I tell you clearly that I can't kiss you. I had no choice that time. I did all that just to protect Yunwen. I will explain the cause and effect to your sister. Now either live a quiet life for me, or don't blame me for punishing you if you make trouble again."

Song Yingchun glared at me with eyes that seemed to want to eat me up. My showdown made her extremely ashamed and angry, and she lost face. She pushed me away and ran out. I quickly chased her out. She almost destroyed the constant temperature room and pulled out all the wheat. Fortunately, I stopped her. After I scolded her, she fell into deep silence.

After she calmed down a little, I took her back to the room and explained to Song Bailu and Yunwen the causes and consequences of the kiss in front of her, and they understood.

What I am worried about now is that the relationship between the people in the house will deteriorate again. Will it affect Yunwen again? I will go out to find food tomorrow. If the rear is unstable, how can the morale of the troops in the front be stabilized and they can go to war confidently?
