Chapter 459: Falling into a Trap

My whole body was burning with pain. Not only were I pierced by the sharp beak of the bird, but I also had bruises from being thrown around several times, especially on my buttocks and some parts of my chest and back. Just as the strange bird was about to throw me off the cliff, Yunwen took out the black fish jade carving from her pocket. The bird slowly calmed down, put me down, and its body began to return to its original size, returning to the silly and curious pheasant it was.

Yunwen came over and helped me up, put my hand on her waist, and carried me to the tree where I had just sat. She said, "I told you not to mess around."

"How do I know that a pheasant can burst into a pterosaur? Who can imagine this?" I couldn't help but mutter to myself.

"You'd better put aside your logical reasoning on this West Island, otherwise you will suffer a great loss. And this black fish jade pendant has magical effects, otherwise your recklessness would really cause you to fall off the cliff and die." Yunwen said in a soft voice, and helped me to look at the wound with annoyance and heartache.

I smiled and said, "No, if I fell off the cliff and died, you would become a widow, I can't bear that."

Her pretty face turned red, and she patted my chest with her hand, said coquettishly, "Hateful! But if you die, I will definitely go with you. I don't want to be a widow."

Her slap hit the painful spot on me. After being thrown around several times just now, I was feeling pain near my sternum. This slap made me frown in pain and scream. Yunwen came over with concern and blew air on my chest, hoping to reduce the pain. Although I was in pain, when she was so close to me and I looked at her stunning face, I couldn't help but forget a lot of things. I guess this was a kind of anesthetic effect.

"Are you feeling better?" Yunwen asked gently.

"It's better now, but it still hurts a little here. Would you mind treating it too?" I said, pointing at my lips.

She bit her lip, her face red as an apple, and said, "You are so unruly! I will ignore you."

Seeing her shy look, I became even more interested. After all, she was my wife. It was hard to have no outsiders around. It was just the two of us. If I didn't do something at this time, it would be too much of a downer. I stood up and moved closer, muttering, "It hurts a lot. It won't get better if I don't treat it. I'll treat it."

She was reluctant but it was just a formality.

As I said that, I hugged her, and she hummed, then without caring about anything else, she took the initiative to hug me and kiss me, as if I was treating my lips. Just as we were deeply in love, I suddenly saw a curious bird face coming over, looking at the two of us curiously, and it couldn't wait to join in our kiss. I had been hurt by its mouth a lot just now, and this guy actually joined in the fun and was right in front of me. I was immediately startled and let go of Yunwen, and the two of us were embarrassed and forced to separate.

"What is this idiot doing?" I couldn't help but mutter to myself. My interest was disturbed and I felt secretly unhappy.

"Don't scold it, be careful or it will go crazy again! It may just be curious. Let me communicate with it." Yunwen said.

Then Yunwen spoke to him in the language of all things for a while, as if there was something serious. Then Yunwen helped me up and said, "Let's go."

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"Let's go to the mountain village. Can't you walk? It said it would carry us there, but..." Yunwen said as her face turned red again.

I have a quick temper and don't like people leaving their words halfway through, so I quickly said, "But what?"

"However, before we set off, it wants to see us kissing again before it carries us there. It's quite curious, so we should just satisfy its curiosity," said Yunwen.

"A pheasant is still curious? Is this a chicken of the cat sign? Forget it, I can't complain anymore. It's okay to kiss it, but it's a bit awkward to kiss it specifically for this guy to see." I said.

"Oh, stop being picky. You're taking advantage of me, and you're still not happy." Yunwen said in a delicate voice.

"That's true, but since it's a transaction, we have to bargain for a price. If it wants to study our kiss, it must be sincere. Let it bring us something to eat first, and it can't be insects or the like. Then we can consider satisfying its curiosity." I said.

"You're competing with a chicken. You're really something." Yunwen said.

"Hey, this is called rational use of resources," I said.

Yunwen sighed, rolled her eyes at me, and said a few words to the silly chicken. When the silly chicken heard it, it was happy and suddenly rushed out. I was startled and confused by this thing that was startled. I asked Yunwen a few questions, but Yunwen couldn't answer where the pheasant had gone. She just said that the pheasant asked us to wait for a moment.

Not long after, I saw the pheasant dragging back a whole branch. On the branch were a lot of fruit-like foods. They were plain and had no smell. They were a bit like sweet potatoes, with irregular shapes and many edges and corners. The pheasant pecked one of them and the flesh inside was exposed. I leaned in to smell it, and it really smelled of sweet potato, but this was the first time I heard of sweet potatoes growing on trees.

"It said that eating this will make it full, but before eating, we have to do something serious first." Yunwen said.

Serious business? This was the first time that something like that was treated as serious business, which was a bit strange.

But this gave me a reason. Anyway, I didn't have enough fun just now, and I was thinking that there was no other reason, so I went over to hug Yunwen and kissed her tightly again. Her pretty eyes moved slightly, and she lingered with me for a long time. We both closed our eyes to avoid seeing that guy getting closer and closer, which would ruin our fun.

After a while, Yunwen pushed me and I opened my eyes. It turned out that the pheasant was already satisfied and hid aside. When we picked the fruit to eat, it no longer looked at us, but just continued to watch from the side. I took a bite and it was extremely hard. Yunwen's teeth were also hurt. It seems that if it wasn't for the bird's beak, it would be impossible to deal with it. Just as I was worrying, I thought that since it smelled similar to sweet potato, it might be eaten similarly.

So we found a way to light a fire and roasted this strange fruit there. After roasting it for a while, it really gave off a fragrant smell. Since it grows on trees and looks like potatoes and sweet potatoes, we called it tree melon. After roasting it for about an incense stick of time, the flesh inside was already tender and rotten. We peeled off the skin, blew it to cool, and then tried to take a bite.

Damn, it smells like a roasted sweet potato. This might be a kind of sweet potato, but the soil here is quite special, it's all black soil with too much nutrition, so it changed its growth method and grew on trees. The taste is very similar, but it's less sweet and not as juicy, but the color, aroma and taste are basically the same.

This West Island is full of weirdness and upside-down things. Trees eat living things, monkeys live on the ground, and humans become animals. Now, the sweet potatoes growing on trees are really amazing.

We grilled a few and ate them. Although there was no seasoning, they were so delicious that our hunger problem was finally solved. My physical strength also recovered a lot during the long rest period, and we were ready to set off.

The pheasant kept its word and turned into a huge size, flying us down the mountain and to the vicinity of the village, saving us a lot of walking. Then it flew away and flew back to the mountain. It was a pity, as it looked pretty awesome. I really wished it could come to our aid in case anything went wrong and it couldn't help.

We were outside the village at the moment. The gate was closed. If we wanted to get in, we could only climb over the wall. But before that, I still used my expertise in listening to sounds to listen for any other unusual movements to make sure whether I could get in. So I lay down beside the door and listened inside, but I didn't hear any footsteps.

I only heard someone's breathing on the right. This person's breathing was very slow and distant. I breathed back and forth two or three times with each breath. And when he moved slightly, the chain also moved. So if I'm not mistaken, he should be the high priest. I never thought he was so nearby.

I also felt very strange. If I said that the village was bustling with activity, I would think it was absolutely normal. After all, the Wutu people were a very noisy tribe. But now it was unusually quiet. Why was that? Could it be that everyone had fled?

Just as I was wondering, I suddenly heard some unusual movement under my feet. I suddenly felt something was wrong and wanted to pull Yunwen away, but it was too late. Before I could run, a big net suddenly rose up from under my feet, covering Yunwen and me!

It's a trap!

I don't know how they knew we were coming, but I have a vague feeling that I might have something to do with the locked-up high priest...
