Chapter 5: Finding the Coast

I don't know how long the boat had drifted. Everyone was dizzy from thirst and I didn't have the strength to row any further. There were three available laborers, but one was actually being lazy. This added a lot of burden to me invisibly.

"Can you please row faster? I'm dying of thirst." Song Yingchun shouted at me.

"Yingchun, go to sleep." Song Bailu scolded.

"How can you sleep when you're so thirsty? Sister, you're so funny." Song Yingchun laughed.

"You won't be thirsty if you fall asleep, right? Go to sleep." Song Bailu said.

Song Yingchun was mainly thirsty and didn't want to make any noise, so she just rolled her eyes and continued to lie down. This gave me some peace and quiet.

I don't know how long the boat has been rowing. Judging from the scratches recorded by Zhang Yunwen on the wooden pole, we should have been drifting for more than ten days. We rely on the little dew left in the early morning. We have managed to hold on until now since we ran out of water, but I basically feel that I have reached the end of my rope.

At this moment, the seabed began to churn and there seemed to be a whirlpool. Before I noticed it, I saw a huge tentacle fluttering up!

"What is this?" Zhang Yunwen turned pale with fright.

"Giant squid, commonly known as sea monster!" Song Bailu said while swallowing.

I stood there in a daze, thinking about the missing soldier on the ship. Could it be that he was swallowed by this sea monster?

In an instant, there were raging waves, surging tides, overwhelming waves and stirring tentacles churning on the sea!

I thought it was all over and there was no hope of salvation, but the waves pushed our boat forward. One wave after another hit us. I failed to grab the tentacles the first time and made the same mistake the second time. During this time, I couldn't see anything clearly and could only see countless surging waves.

With a bang, the whole boat fell apart, and the girls and I fell into the sea. I was already thirsty and hungry, and I couldn't stand it after a few hits. I fainted without any strength to resist.

When I woke up, I was sitting on a shore, the sea water splashing on my face, and I felt a little heavy. It was Yunwen who was pressing on me. She leaned over and aimed her face at my mouth. Her soft lips made me fantasize a lot. There was a small suction force acting between our lips. It turned out to be artificial respiration.

When her watery eyes saw that I had my eyes open, they immediately widened and she sat up, a little shy.

"Are you awake?" she asked.

"Where is this?" I asked.

"Island..." She smiled.

However, I saw that there was a very wide coastline and many mountains and forests around it. It was not a small island, but an uncultivated island. It was sparsely populated. However, under a big tree somewhere on the left, I could see a small tent made of hay, vines and some tree trunks. I thought it was made by the soldier.

It turned out that the waves helped us escape from the sea and pushed us here, so we all escaped the disaster.

After checking the supplies, we found that we had two ropes, an M9 bayonet, three loaves of bread, a box of biscuits, a medical kit, some items, a harpoon, and a metal cup. That was all we had.

Their lives were saved, but recently they had lost a lot of water and salt due to the sun's rays. Plus, they only had a small amount of water to replenish, so they would die without timely replenishment of fresh water. So the most urgent task was to find water.

"Yunwen, please ask everyone to come over here." I said.

She nodded at me and then went to call the two sisters over. Song Bailu came over quickly, but Song Yingchun deliberately dragged her feet. When she came in front of me, she said arrogantly, "If you have something to say, just say it. If you have something to say, just fart. It's very sunny."

"I do want to fart, but the key is that I can't fart if I have nothing to eat. You must fart a lot. Eight or nine cakes plus a large slice of dried beef, I think you can fart continuously." I said deliberately.

"You called us here just to discuss this kind of thing?" Song Yingchun retorted.

"Yes, that's what we are discussing. I'm going to set the rules now. From today on, if you want to eat, you must do the corresponding work. If you want to get something for nothing, sorry, don't follow me. I don't keep freeloaders here. Do you understand? If anyone doesn't want to obey, go and have fun by yourself. I'm sorry, but if you refuse to leave, I can do anything for myself and for those workers." I said.

"Tsk, what's so great about that? If a man lives as stingily as you, he might as well just die." Song Yingchun said, turning her head away.

"Okay, okay, let's all say less. We have finally arrived on the island, so don't get angry about this. Zhou Bo, tell me, what else did you call us here for besides setting rules?" Song Bailu said hurriedly, protecting her sister behind her.

"We asked everyone to come here so that we can work together. Although we are on the island now, we are still short of water and we must find a way to deal with it. So I plan to propose two plans to be carried out simultaneously. The first plan is that two people will go to find a water source and come back to deal with the emergency after finding it. The second plan is that the other two people will be responsible for staying here and arranging clothes and hanging them on the trees so that they can store water when it rains. In addition, they have to collect firewood to make a bonfire at night." I said.

"Well, it is indeed better to make progress on both ends. It is very practical." Song Bailu couldn't help but praise.

"Now let's confirm the personnel of the remaining team and the exploration team." I said.

"I will definitely stay here. If there are any poisonous insects or snakes in there, wouldn't I be in danger? So I'm a member of the staying team. It's all right for me, right? I'm going to take a rest." Before I could reply, Song Yingchun went to the tent of his subordinates without even looking back.

I was about to get angry, but Bailu stopped me and said, "It's okay, it's okay. I'll do her job together. Don't be angry, Brother Zhou... The stewardess still has wounds on her body, so she can only stay here and can't move. So let me go with you to find water, and I'll pick up some firewood by the way." Song Bailu said.

Zhang Yunwen also walked towards me slowly. Knowing that I was very angry, she held my hand and said, "It's okay. It's not a lot of work. I can handle it by myself. She is young, so don't bother with her. Harmony is the most important thing. Unity is strength, right?"

I sighed, knowing that arguing was pointless now. The key was to find water quickly to solve the urgent problem.

Then, I tore open the empty plastic food bags in my backpack and laid them flat, took out the plastic box of biscuits, found a branch, and walked to a place where the sea water could not reach. There I used the branch to dig a hole in the ground, placed the spread plastic bags at an angle, and placed them on the plastic box of biscuits.

Song Bailu understood it immediately. She gave me a thumbs up and said, "Great! You want the dew to flow into the plastic box, right?"

"Well, but this is very slow. We have to wait until tomorrow morning," I said.

She nodded and walked away. I prepared the bayonet and metal cup, and was about to take Bailu to the jungle on the island. Bailu went over and scolded Yingchun, and I also took this opportunity to warn Zhang Yunwen.

"Listen, you must keep an eye on all the food and don't let her snatch it away. When there is no other food supply, these foods are more valuable than gold, do you understand? You must keep an eye on them and don't be soft-hearted," I said.

Zhang Yunwen nodded and forced a professional smile.

I shook my head, and at this time, Song Bailu also came out, so I took her to find water quickly. There was not much time to delay. In the case of water shortage, every second counts...
