Chapter 73: The Secret World

Song Bailu adjusted her breathing and after a while, she told us everything she had experienced.

That day, she did not choose to climb the vines at the foot of the mountain, but chose to escape from the hunting of the Gu Diao at the corner of the cliff at the foot of the mountain. After that, what we saw at the top of the mountain was that she disappeared around the corner, and the Gu Diao excitedly chased after her. This is the scene we saw.

From Bai Lu's narration, we also learned that after she ran into the corner that day, the Gu Eagle chased her relentlessly. She ran all the way, but it was not quite what I expected. When the Gu Eagle ran into the corner, she said that the Gu Eagle was very close to her, and it had opened its mouth wide, ready to pounce on her and complete its hunt that day. Bai Lu said that she didn't know where she got the courage from, and she immediately picked up a stick and pointed it in front of the Gu Eagle's eyes.

"Oh my god, isn't this the way I deal with wolves? How did you think of using it to deal with Gu Diao?" I interrupted her narration and said.

"There's a saying that goes, 'try everything you can to save the day.' I was already at the end of my rope at that time. In a desperate situation, I could only rely on this trick to try to delay," said Song Bailu.

“Does that work?” I asked.

"Yeah!" Song Bailu nodded sincerely.

I almost spit out a mouthful of water! This is so weird, the legendary beast would actually fall for this trick used to deal with dogs.

"Hey, don't interrupt me. Are you annoyed? Sister, please continue. What's next?" Song Yingchun asked.

Then, Song Bailu continued to narrate her thrilling experience. She held the wooden stick and pointed it in front of the eyes of the Gu Diao. Unexpectedly, the Gu Diao was quite silly and cute. Perhaps it was because of its big body but small head and insufficient brain capacity that it was easily fooled. It was an "eagle" after all, so it mostly relied on the visual ability of its eyes to judge things. The stick was stuck in front of its eyes, and as the saying goes, things are bigger when they are near and smaller when they are far away, it thought it was a huge monster, and became alert, confronting it with its teeth and claws bared.

Bai Lu said that she relied on this trick to slow down the attack of the Gu Diao, and then looked around to find if there was any other opportunity, but she saw a cave entrance at the other end of the mountain wall, and there seemed to be a whistling sound of wind in the cave entrance. As the saying goes, there is no smoke without fire, and the cave with wind must be relatively empty. She thought that might be the way to survive.

She retreated step by step, and the Gu Diao followed closely, but it was just struggling with the wooden stick.

It was not until Bai Lu retreated into the cave that he threw down his stick and rushed into the cave. The entrance to the cave was extremely narrow, and one had to squat and lean sideways to get in. So the Gu Eagle did not follow him in, but just howled outside for a long time, and then left not long after.

"I think we should stop calling it Gu Diao and just call it 'Sha Diao'," I said.

"That's very honest." Yingchun agreed.

"Sister Bailu, how did you survive without food? And if you stay in the cave for a long time, you will definitely be deprived of oxygen, not to mention you have already been there for four or five days." Yunwen said.

"The space below is not considered a completely enclosed space. The entire cave has three floors, which are divided and accessible by a large spiral staircase built by the ancients. There is an underground river under the first floor. The flow of river water indicates there is a gap. A gap in the mountain wall will bring in some oxygen from the outside, and there is underground wind here, which means there must have been a change in pressure inside and outside the cave, which is why it is formed. Therefore, the gap should be quite large, so there is no feeling of lack of oxygen when staying inside." Bai Lu said.

"Three-layer space? Which layer are we in now?" I asked.

"It's the third floor. There was a little light on this floor before the stone pile was pushed away, so I stayed here. This floor seemed to be specially used to place those bronze artifacts. The second floor was like a tent or a military meeting place built by the visitors before. There were many weapons on both sides, and a lot of documents, seals, pens, ink, paper, and inkstones, as well as candlesticks, piled on the chopping board in the middle. The silver needle was taken from there. As for food, as the saying goes, the land and water nourish the people. Where there is water, there will be food. Where there is an underground river, there will be no shortage of food." Bai Lu said.

After Bai Lu finished speaking, she took some leftover raw fish from nearby, some grass roots that grew in humid environments, and some scallops. Since she couldn't make a fire recently, she could only wash them and eat them raw to try to survive.

After talking about these, we also considered moving in. Just now, in order to heal Yunwen's injuries, and because we haven't seen each other for a long time and have a lot to talk about, we stayed here for a long time. Now we should think carefully about the next arrangements. After all, we are not here to do archaeology, but are forced to be trapped here. Settling down our lives is the most important thing.

Anyway, no one took these bronze artifacts away for the time being, so we made use of them and moved the campfire and firewood into the bronze tripod to illuminate the cave. Then I counted them, and found that there were still more than ten fungus and other things, enough for three or four meals, but there were five or six slices less of beef, with only six slices left.

It really hurts!

Afterwards, the Song sisters and I carried the grain barrel into the cave entrance and placed it a little way inside, where it would not be exposed to the rain, to prevent the moisture in the cave from affecting the wheat and causing it to rot.

He helped Yunwen up again and spread two layers of animal skins on the kiln-fired floor tiles, placing them on both sides of the bronze tripod. In this way, when Yunwen lay on it, she could feel the heat released by the metal after dissipating heat, so that she would not be too cold due to the coldness in the cave. Another layer of animal skins was used as a quilt to cover her.

Her wound was serious and it was inconvenient for her to do anything. Besides, healing the wound also consumes a lot of energy, so I let her have a good rest first.

Basically everything you need is available here. There is a steamer called a yan (pronounced yan), with a zeng (zeng) on the top, which is a pot for food. There are hollow holes on the bottom of the pot, and a li at the bottom, which is a tripod like a bracket. The middle is empty and water can be poured into it. When it is burned underground, food can be steamed with water vapor. It seems that it should be no problem to make some steamed buns in the future.

There are also many things like xu, dun, lei, and plates, whether you can name them or not, they are all available. Anyway, in general, in addition to cooking, other things such as roasting, steaming, and boiling, as well as utensils for food, water, and wine, basically all of them are bronze utensils that can be used, so it can be said that everything you need is available.

This is also good, as it avoids the earthy smell that always occurs when stewing soup in an earthen pot.

After taking a few usable items like bowls and pots for cooking, we will keep the rest as decorations. We also plan to take down the Ming Dynasty wooden tables that were used for offerings. Isn't it a waste to use so much wood to place only two or three things?

I asked Yingchun to find a way to transform all the wood into low beds for us to sleep in, and a low table so that we could sit on the ground and eat together. Yingchun was in a better mood when she saw her sister coming back, and was willing to take on the job, but she also said that it would take a few days.

After we finished cleaning up all these, it was already dark outside the cave. We were busy for half a day and were growling with hunger. Besides, we had been looking forward to it for a long time, and even the glutton in our stomachs must have missed the aroma of the food cooked by Song Bailu.

I had heard Bai Lu talk about the cave before, so I planned to take a torch and take a look down there while they were cooking and chatting. I also wanted to know what the team sent by the Ming Dynasty was like more than five hundred years ago. Since there were documents, there must be clues recorded.

Since they found these bronze artifacts, why didn't they take them away? In addition, why did they block the entrance to the cave? Did they also see some rare and exotic animals on the island? This inquiry was not only out of curiosity, but also to learn more about the true situation of the island and to find more lessons from the past.

After all, only by knowing yourself and your enemy can you avoid getting lost on the island.
