The weather was suitable that day, so I went down the stone steps to the bottom of the mountain to take a look. I found no wolf feces, nor wolf hair or wolf footprints, which showed that they had not targeted this animal for a long time. As for the Gu Diao, although it was difficult to predict, based on its hunting habits and time, it seemed to attack mostly at night, using the sound of a baby crying to lure prey. As long as I didn't make any big noise, it should be difficult for it to find me.
After confirming these, I went back, carrying my backpack, holding my gun, and pushing the wooden ox and horse out of the cave, ready to go down the mountain from the stone steps to find granite. Before I left, I saw the girls standing at the cave entrance looking at me, especially Yunwen. Her wound was obviously not fully healed, but she still insisted on seeing me off.
"Let's go back. It's just a rock. It won't be a big deal," I said.
"Be careful." Song Bailu said to me.
I nodded and waved to them. But before I left, Yunwen ran over and clung to me for a long time before letting go. She said, "If you encounter danger, just run away. Don't linger. It's good as long as you can come back, okay?"
I turned around and was about to say something when she waved at me with difficulty. I bent down, thinking that she was going to whisper something to me, but it was not the case. She gave me a light kiss on the forehead. I felt a little cool on my forehead, but my body felt embarrassed and my face turned red.
"Don't think too much. I calculated that today should be my birthday. So, as the birthday girl, I will give you a lucky kiss." Yunwen said.
I nodded and smiled at her, thinking that this person had such a good memory that he could remember the entire calendar in his mind, which was quite an amazing skill.
"Thank you. As a token of my wish for the birthday boy, I will definitely come back safely and will prepare a pot of steamed buns for you as soon as possible to celebrate your birthday," I said.
Her smile was so sweet, like a spring breeze, which gave me great confidence and courage.
After bidding farewell reluctantly, I hurried down the mountain pushing the wooden ox and flowing horse. I thought that as long as I came back before dark, the Gu Diao would not be able to find me easily even if it was lurking nearby, and a head-on conflict could be avoided.
This small one-wheeled wooden ox and horse is really magical, as if it was born for mountain roads. I drove at the same speed as usual without slowing down. When I got to the bottom of the mountain and turned a corner, I was near the deserted house. When I looked up, I could see the strange scarecrow with a broken spine.
Just as I was about to move forward, I heard some unusual movements in the mountain wall. Last time, I put my ear close to the ground and could hear the sound of the wind inside. Now I understand that the secret cave inside has underground rivers and gaps, and there is wind due to the different pressures. But this time, what I heard was not the sound of wind, but a creaking sound, as if something was trying to get out.
This made me involuntarily stay away from there, and that creepy feeling from the bottom of my heart started to grow again, making me feel uncomfortable all over.
"What could make such a loud moving noise? A rat? No way, how big could that rat be? And even if it was a rat, it wouldn't make people feel this way. It's too weird." As I said this, I couldn't help but shudder.
I set off quickly and pushed the wooden ox and flowing horse out of the deserted house area. When I reached the dangerous path, I saw a wooden board slanted on the fault, forming a downhill slope with wolf footprints on it. Then I realized that these wolves had gone down from the dangerous path. It turned out that they moved the "ladder" by themselves. They were so smart, they must have become spirits.
But this also gave me a new way. I could push the wooden ox and horse down from the wooden board. If I pushed it down, I would go directly under the fault and reach the vicinity of the jujube tree area.
The rest of the process went relatively smoothly. Although I hadn't walked on this forest road for a long time, the road signs I carved myself were still there. By following them, I soon reached the road back to Huoquan's old house. After passing the jujube tree area and the long road of tall trees, I turned the corner and went straight to the destination.
I saw that the fence had been broken through and the earthen house had been destroyed. Judging from the way it committed the crime, it was undoubtedly the Gu Diao. If we hesitated for a day or two, we might all die in its mouth. I couldn't help but feel a chill down my spine.
Near the Sheltering Rain Rock, there are many large rocks and some small ones. There are many suitable granites, all of which are gray, and there are some light brown sandstones. It does look like there was a river here, but the terrain was changed due to crustal movement, the water dried up, and those larger sandstones were left behind.
I selected two rocks of appropriate sizes, with the size difference not too big, about the length and width of a laptop. I also took a slightly larger rock, intending to use it as a grinding wheel. This size can only make a miniature stone mill, but it is enough if I want it. In addition, I always feel that I will stay in the cave for a long time, so it would be more appropriate to make one that is easy to carry.
I placed these stones in the wooden trough of the wooden ox and horse, but I didn't feel any difference in weight. Everything went so smoothly, so smoothly that it surprised me.
I was about to return along the original route and pushed the cart to the old house of Huoquan. I was a little thirsty, so I fetched some water from the old well, took a sip, and went back to see the earthen kang that I had built before, thinking about the old days.
But who would have thought, at this moment, the wooden frame of the earthen house fell down, and I didn't have time to hide and was crushed. It wasn't a big deal, but when I fell down, I accidentally hit the stone rock behind me, and the whole wooden ox and horse fell down, and I also felt dizzy and passed out.
Maybe things have been going too smoothly, and things will eventually turn into the opposite extreme.
When I woke up, unfortunately, it was already dark. I covered my head and found that the blood on my head had coagulated. It was painful and numb, but I couldn't care less now. I had to go back quickly to avoid being targeted by the Gu Diao.
I quickly got up, packed my things, propped up the wooden ox and horse, put the three rocks in place, and rushed home before it got completely dark.
As the saying goes, when it rains, it never fails. Just now, the wooden ox and horse fell down, and there seemed to be some problem with its wheels, as if some parts were broken. The speed of movement has slowed down a lot, and I dare not go too fast, otherwise the wheels will fall apart completely, and I will be doomed.
The sky was getting darker and darker, and it was almost pitch dark. I didn't have a torch, so I couldn't even recognize the road. Besides, green glowing eyes had begun to gather around me, staring at me.
It should have been an easy task to complete, but I turned it into a dangerous task.
"It's troublesome. When it gets dark, not to mention the Gu Diao coming to eat people, these wild beasts will bite me to pieces because they have no fire to fear." I muttered.
Fortunately, they have reached a tall tree forest and have run for a distance. After turning the corner, they will be able to reach the cliff. When they find the small hole that Song Bailu found in the mountain wall, they will be safe and escape the disaster.
Finally I reached the cliff. Unexpectedly, the wild beasts retreated when they saw me sticking to the cliff. This made me breathe a sigh of relief, thinking that I had escaped the disaster.
But at this moment, I heard a shrill roar behind me, and through the long black shadow cast by the moonlight, I knew what was behind me.
My heart is about to jump out of my chest!
Tear!!
Its voice sounded like it was ripping open its throat. I immediately raised the gun behind me, turned around and aimed at it. The Gu Diao actually stood up, a head taller than me, and screamed again, and my eardrums were about to burst!
"Oh my god, how can I use the stick to block your eyes when you're standing so high? You're not playing by the rules!" I said with a wry smile.
It approached me, opened its bloody mouth and pounced on me. I refused to give in and shot it immediately.
Bang!
