Chapter 92: The sound of head-butting

To be on the safe side, we lived in the first dormitory room on the first floor of this earthen building. There were two bunk beds made of iron frames, placed on both sides. There was a long vertical table near the window with some notebooks on the table. I took a look and saw that they were all in foreign languages. There was weeds on the ground, many plants breaking through the ground, and spider webs all over the walls.

"Why don't we change rooms? This one is dirty and smelly, I don't like it." Song Yingchun complained.

"Since it's the same earthen building, aren't all the rooms the same? Stay here for now. Clean it up and it's still habitable," I said.

"I agree with this point of view. The closer we get to the inside, the greater the risk. First of all, there is the condition of the corridor lights. Now they are flickering and the voltage is unstable. If there is a power outage one day, we will have to walk a long dark road to get to the room inside. Secondly, this blockhouse has an iron fence door. We are in the first room, so we can control the opening and closing of the door at any time. This can also prevent any wild animals from sneaking into the blockhouse to deal with us, right? Zhou Bo." Song Bailu said.

"There is another reason. In this blockhouse..." Before I finished speaking, Yunwen helped me speak.

"This tower is dark and closed, and no one lives there for a long time. It feels gloomy when you come in, like a haunted house. So the further inside you go, the darker it gets, and the more likely you are to attract dirty things." Yunwen finished speaking for me.

"Wake up, please respect science, okay? What dirty or not, that's all feudal and superstitious nonsense. Even if it comes, I'm not afraid. In short, I just don't want to live in this room! Sister, there is a room upstairs, let's go, it must be more ventilated there." Song Yingchun said.

Song Bailu looked embarrassed, and I immediately came to her rescue: "Sister Yingchun, if you want to sleep upstairs and are not afraid of getting dirty, go ahead. The lights are on and you won't fall. Please feel free to go upstairs."

Song Yingchun bit her lip and said that she was not afraid, but she was still frightened in her heart and her embarrassment was obvious at a glance.

"Okay, let's clean up here today and stay here tonight. Bailu, you lead the girls to get water with the buckets here, and clean up with brooms and mops. I'll go over there to get all the cans, and I'll work with you when I come back." I said.

"Okay, leave it to me." Bai Lu said.

Then I put on my backpack and went out, but just as I was about to leave, Yunwen followed me and said, "I'll go with you."

I glanced at Bailu and she nodded at me. Yunwen must have asked for her opinion.

Since that was the case, I was just hoping for it. I took her to the area near the crashed helicopter. When we got outside the playground, she grabbed me and said, "Did you see what's written on the notebook on the table?"

"I saw it, but I couldn't understand it, so I didn't pay attention to it. What did it say?" I asked.

"Run! Don't stay here!" Yunwen said anxiously.

I was completely confused.

She grabbed my clothes and translated, "It means, run! Don't stay here!"

I think the message was written for his roommates, but it was seen by us now. I feel that things are different now, and the previous danger may not still exist now. Besides, Bai Lu and the others will definitely not be happy if I leave now.

Therefore, we two will just briefly discuss the message written in this notebook.

When we arrived at the crashed helicopter, we stuffed all the cans into our schoolbags. Some were crushed by the plane, and some were broken prematurely and now stink. In total, we could eat 46 boxes. If we ate half a box a day, we could eat them for three months. It was a great harvest.

After that we went back, Bailu cleaned the mop and wiped the rotten wooden floor, and cleared the weeds. Yunwen and Yingchun took the sheets and quilts spread on the bed to the public sink, washed them with clean water, used soap, and scrubbed them carefully. I am tall, so I used a broom to clean the cobwebs on the ceiling and corners over and over again.

Because the bed frame was rusty, I used the bayonet head as a screwdriver and twisted it a little, which made it a little more fixed.

Afterwards, we opened the wardrobe and were hit by a strong rotten smell. We rummaged through several cabinets and unexpectedly found several camouflage uniforms. I compared them with my body and found that some were about my size, some were slightly smaller, but most were one or two sizes larger than me.

I'm not surprised that there are so many big guys abroad, but now that I've found them, they're much better than the dirty and torn clothes they're wearing. And in the wild, camouflage uniforms can definitely increase adaptability. So I asked Bai Lu to take them out, wash them with soap nuts, and dry them in the sun, and then let them all wear them when the time comes.

After cleaning the room, we opened the windows wide and a breeze blew in. The moisture and the earthy and rotten smells in the room gradually dissipated a lot. Then we worked together to help wash the items that needed to be washed. The quilts were full of mites because no one had used them for a long time. So we cleaned them for a long time. Then we found a climbing frame for training climbing, as well as double poles and single poles, and hung up what needed to be hung.

After finishing all this, a whole day had passed and we found a suitable place on the playground, set up a pot and prepared to cook. Bailu was still in charge of everything, Yunwen was responsible for helping, and Yingchun and I were responsible for making fire and collecting firewood.

Since the wheat was difficult to carry, most of it remained in the tent in the woods. I took a torch and pushed the wooden ox and horse to the woods to carry back a bucket. There was water and an iron bucket, so I could wash the wheat, but there was no sieve. I could only rely on my hands to scoop away the floating bran one handful at a time, and there was no way to sift it again, so the last bit of the wheat could only be ground on the stone mill with some husks left.

However, it does not affect the taste too much. Moreover, the ancients sometimes ate it with wheat bran. I heard that it contains a lot of dietary fiber and is good for gastrointestinal defecation, so it is not a big deal.

But we can’t eat it today. We have to wait until it dries and is ground into flour tomorrow so that we can make some baked naan to eat.

In the evening, everyone opened a can of canned tuna. Bailu put it on a stone, grilled it, and sprinkled seasoning on it. Chopsticks and other tools had not been made yet, so they could only eat with their hands. For the soup, each person could only take a sip from the lunch box and share it equally.

It's quite delicious, but it doesn't fill you up.

After dinner, everyone chewed willow leaves, washed their faces under the tap, rinsed their mouths with tea in metal cups, and then prepared to go back to bed.

Things that were not very important were placed outside, while animal skins, cloaks and the like were brought into the house. After they were in the room, they were dried in the air for a long time and the temperature was relatively high, so the inside was almost dry. There were just three animal skins and one cloak, and four beds, so one of them could be used as a bed sheet and last for a whole night.

There is no need to keep watch tonight. I have closed the iron gate outside the blockhouse, so nothing can get in. There is no need for us to waste our energy watching the bonfire or anything like that. We dare not use the lights too much for fear of running out of electricity. So we just plan to go to bed, with Yunwen sleeping on the upper bunk and me on the lower bunk. The two sisters will vacate the upper bunk and sleep on the lower bunk.

After all, my military career lasted for several years. In a trance, I seemed to have returned to that time, living in the same dormitory with my comrades, lying in a room like this, talking about little things that happened at home, enjoying it until midnight, and being punished to stand outside for talking secretly.

Close your eyes and it’s as if time is going back.

Before I knew it, everyone had fallen asleep, and I also fell asleep in a daze. However, in the middle of the night, perhaps because of the hot weather or perhaps because the bed was too hard for me to sleep, I woke up again.

In a daze, I heard strange noises outside, sparse noises, and clanging sounds coming from upstairs, as if someone was banging their head against the wall. I suspected that I was in a nightmare.

However, at this time, Bai Lu's voice came, whispering: "Brother Zhou Bo, did you hear it?"
