Chapter 23 Paradise

The increasingly scorching sun dispelled the thick fog in the mountains. This mountainside was mostly rocky, with only a few pine trees or unknown fruit trees struggling to grow in the cracks between the rocks!

Looking out, the foot of the mountain is lush and verdant, with flocks of brightly colored birds taking flight and landing, their clear calls filling the air. Far from being noisy, they sound like melodious music. Flowers are in bloom, grass is green, and a gentle breeze is blowing. If it weren't for the worries in one's heart, this would truly be a secluded paradise suitable for living in seclusion!

My stomach is rumbling, I'm really hungry. I was up all night last night and only had some water! Looking back at the family of four, Leng Fengmei tiptoed down, her arms slightly outstretched, like a falling leaf tilting downwards!

The wind blew past my fingertips in an instant, drying the sweat on my face. This mountain was tens of thousands of feet high! The closer I got to the ground, the clearer things became. Squirrels darted among the trees—running so fast that they startled a flock of birds resting among the branches!

Several wild rabbits were chasing each other on the grass... The sound of flowing water filled the air! A small stream came into view, crystal clear, with occasional small fish swimming downstream!

Leng Fengmei spotted a fat, large wild rabbit, drew a dagger from her leg, and hurled it. With a "thud," the rabbit, which was munching on grass, was pinned to the ground. Leng Fengmei pulled the dagger from her neck, lifted it—it weighed about ten pounds! Her face instantly lit up with a smile.

A wild boar weighing over 200 pounds was drinking water by the stream when it saw someone intruding. It huffed and puffed as it charged at the human. Perhaps in its eyes, the human was too insignificant, or perhaps it was simply because this was its territory!

Leng Fengmei didn't understand these things, but that didn't stop her from taking the food that was right in front of her. If she couldn't finish it herself, there were still two little ones to eat!

The moment it charged, Leng Fengmei leaped onto its back, simultaneously plunging her dagger into its neck and slashing it hard. Blood gushed out. The wild boar sensed the danger and tried to escape, but the thing it couldn't shake off had severed its throat. The wild boar struggled to breathe, bleeding profusely, and soon collapsed to the ground, convulsing.

Leng Fengmei, carrying a rabbit in one hand and dragging a wild boar by the other, walked towards the stream. She thought to herself, "Thank goodness I had a few lighters in my backpack! They don't take up much space, and everyone in my family has one, just in case." But this time, she had miscalculated; she never expected to be brought here! She wondered how her family was doing...

I thought Mom would be back when I woke up this morning, but I haven't seen her yet. Xinbao has asked her countless times since she woke up this morning, and her older sister patiently comforted her so she wouldn't cry!

Yun Sheng looked at Xin Bao, his heart filled with envy, thinking: "I just want to find my mother..."

Looking at the children, Song Chengyang felt heavy-hearted, as if his pillar of support had suddenly disappeared (let's wait and see if they come back today...). "Eat quickly. After we finish eating, we'll help Yunsheng find his family. Your mother must have found something good; she'll probably be back tonight!" Xin's father didn't know how to comfort her. He never used to have to worry about these things...

Hanhan said, "I brought you lots of delicious food. We'll go out to eat later." She picked up a backpack and patted it.

Their eyes lit up instantly, and they nodded in unison, "Mmm..."

Xin Xin: "Sister, I'm so hungry, get me some rice!"

Yun Sheng: "Sister, I want to eat too!"

Hanhan: "Okay, okay, tell me what you want to eat, sister..."

Dad breathed a long sigh of relief!

Leng Fengmei quickly cleaned up the two animals. Don't underestimate women. Before she had her superpowers, cleaning up these things was just a matter of time. Now, with her strength, this kind of work is a piece of cake!

After rinsing the rabbit in the water, Leng Fengmei removed its skin and gathered a pile of dry firewood. Worried about burning it, she found some broad leaves with gnaw marks, wrapped the rabbit in them, and then covered it with a thick layer of yellow mud! Only after the fire had burned completely out of smoke did she toss the rugby ball-sized lump of mud into the flames. Sparks flew everywhere, and Leng Fengmei covered it with another layer of embers, patiently waiting...

Looking at the cleaned-up wild boar, and then at the nearby rocky hill, it seemed like I'd spotted a smooth rock somewhere...

Soon, a smooth, flat stone the size of a pillow was placed on the charcoal fire and heated up, and several thin slices of meat sizzled and dripped with oil...

Tsk! What a pity, if only I had some barbecue seasoning! Leng Fengmei picked up her water bottle, filled it with water, thank goodness there was water to drink! Using two smoothed twigs, she picked up a slice of freshly grilled meat and put it in her mouth. The meat was fragrant and delicious, and chewy! Leng Fengmei took a bite from the left and a bite from the right, and after a few slices of meat, her appetite was even greater!

I licked my lips, this is so delicious... and continued slicing...

I ate until I was 80% full before the rabbit was even cooked!

"Burp..." He took a sip of water to wash away the grease in his mouth, and only then did he realize how quiet it was around him. It seemed that his arrival had frightened the animals!

It's quite strange that we didn't encounter any tigers or wolves here, nor did any animals mutate...

And how did those two eagles mutate...?

Leng Fengmei found some soft yet sturdy vines, tied up the hundred-plus pounds of pork, slung her backpack over her shoulder, filled a water bottle and tossed it inside. Seeing the rabbit was almost ready, she emerged from the fire, cracked open the mud, and revealed a fragrant, golden-brown, glistening rabbit. Leng Fengmei took a deep breath—it smelled amazing…

Ah! A look of complete satisfaction. Just a taste is enough; I'll save it for tonight!

He found some leaves, wrapped them up, put them in his backpack, carried the wild boar meat in one hand and held a dagger in the other. He felt much better after eating his fill!

Feeling the slightly oversized clothes, I realized I've lost even more weight! I felt a little smug, but at the same time, I thought about that thing that was parasitizing my body... and a bit worried! Oh well, what's meant to happen will happen!
