"Boom, boom!"
Before the earthquake, various mutated animals of different sizes in the city fled in panic toward the Yanshan Mountains, crashing into buildings and making loud rumbling noises as they ran!
At this moment, the survivors, who had already fallen asleep, felt a chill run down their spines when they saw the mutated animals' behavior outside through the window.
Because of the previous major earthquake, Country Z has always emphasized the popularization of earthquake prevention measures among the general public. Therefore, when most survivors saw the strange movements of these animals, they probably had some guesses in their minds and began to frantically put on their clothes, pack their belongings, and run downstairs.
The mutated animals below had no time to pay attention to the "food" appearing on the street; nothing was more important to them than escaping for their lives.
"What's going on? Is an earthquake about to happen?"
"Quick! Let's get to an open area, the buildings here are too densely packed!"
"We're a coastal city! There might even be a tsunami..."
"Follow these mutant animals! They must know where the safest place is!"
"And then what? They eat you once you're in a safe place?!"
"You still have time to argue! Run!"
...
More and more survivors were appearing downstairs, most of them choosing to follow the mutated animals and run towards the higher reaches of the Yanshan Mountains. Only a few insisted on staying in the open area. There were earthquakes and falling rocks down the mountain; what was the point of running there? Were they just looking for death?
The earthquake will only last a few minutes at most. Then you can go to higher ground to avoid the tsunami.
However, they overlooked the power and frequency of this earthquake.
A few hours later, the ground began to shake violently. An earthquake had struck, and cracks began to appear on the surrounding buildings. Finally, unable to withstand the pressure, the buildings collapsed to the ground with a loud crash.
As the earth shook violently, one building after another tilted and collapsed. The survivors were already prepared to stand in the open space. Although they were afraid, they were not in danger.
A very small number of people in these buildings were so sound asleep that they were unaware of the impending danger and were buried before they could escape.
It kicked up countless dust and grime, forming hazy wisps of smoke that obscured people's view.
As the crowd fled with the mutated beasts, some of those who were slower to escape were crushed to the ground by massive buildings before they could even leave the urban area of City B.
The vast majority of survivors and mutated beasts escaped to Yanshan Mountain, but earthquakes were also occurring on the mountain, and huge rocks fell from the mountain, burying many survivors and mutated beasts underneath.
Large mutated beasts might be able to push off the rubble and escape, but smaller mutated beasts would be permanently buried underneath.
Some people rushed outside without dressing properly, only to realize later that the temperature outside was -80 degrees Celsius. Although they had run to an open area where they wouldn't be hit by falling objects, they still couldn't withstand the extremely low temperature and were quickly frozen.
After the earthquake claimed countless lives, it gradually subsided. Just as people breathed a sigh of relief, many began to run quickly toward the nearby buildings that had not collapsed. The tsunami tide was surging in, carrying the salty smell of the sea and giant ice blocks, rushing toward the survivors.
The survivors stared at the seawater, which was several meters high like a curtain of water, their eyes glaring and their vision cracking. Some of them knelt down silently, some even showing a relieved smile on their faces.
No matter how these people reacted, the tide did not change, and the surging seawater instantly submerged them.
"Help!"
Those who were submerged in the sea bobbed up and down in the water, trying to reach out to those who were quickly climbing to higher ground, hoping they could be saved.
But they were all too busy climbing higher to care about the lives of those below.
As the survivors climbed back to the top of the building, gazing in a daze at the ever-growing sea below, another earthquake struck. The earth shook violently, and those buildings that had once been seen as lifelines became scythes that reaped lives once more.
There are at least two million survivors in the entire urban area of City B. How many of them could have survived such a massive earthquake and raging flood?
Meanwhile, the B City base, having already begun preparations, was much more at ease. On the eve of the earthquake, before the base even issued a notice, the survivors saw flocks of birds flying overhead and immediately ran to the open ground. Some even ran towards the base gate; they wanted to go down the mountain because the earthquake was too dangerous on the mountain!
"Urgent Notice: A massive earthquake and tsunami exceeding the predicted magnitude is imminent. All survivors, please proceed to the shelters built at the base. The shelters are located at... Please do not panic or descend the mountain; proceed to the shelters in an orderly fashion..."
The survivors in the base immediately ran towards the location indicated in the notice, but the shelter's capacity was limited and it was impossible to accommodate all the survivors.
Standing at the highest point, Ye Lin shouted through a megaphone: "Survivors who haven't entered the shelter, don't panic! The buildings around here are made of underground ore. Please take shelter in these buildings and don't panic!"
At that moment, someone shouted at Ye Lin, "Why are these people allowed into the shelter! It must be the safest place! I want to go into the shelter!"
Ye Lin looked at the man, a yellow glint flashing in his eyes. A sharp earthen spike pierced the man's chest, its pointed tip going right through him. The man collapsed to the ground before he could finish speaking.
