"Sister Ruo, someone asked me to pass you a message. It's about the superpowered teams that participated in the attack on the eastern mountain the night before last."
Lin Ruo had just finished training that morning and was wiping away the dripping sweat with a towel when she received this message from Zhao Hui.
Looking at the file that followed the message, Lin Ruo lightly tapped it. The file contained detailed investigation data on all the mountain power teams that wanted to attack her that day, and it also indicated which team took action and which team was just observing.
Although Lao Bai had previously said that all the special ability teams involved in the operation had been dealt with, they were unaware of the forces behind these teams. Now, someone was actually providing her with information.
She raised an eyebrow slightly. People in the post-apocalyptic world are still so kind? She didn't believe there wasn't some ulterior motive behind it.
"Who told you to give it to me?" she replied to Zhao Hui, a rare occurrence for her.
Zhao Hui replied quickly, "The other party did not leave a name. When I came back from work, I found these things on the table in my room. The doors of the base are equipped with anti-theft measures. The person who was able to sneak in must be a superhuman."
After typing this message on his terminal, Zhao Hui pursed his lips and sent another message: "Don't trust Sister Ruo's information too much. After all, we don't know what the other party's purpose is, and it's not necessarily true that the other party has no selfish motives at all."
Sitting on another chair in Zhao Hui's room, Li Wei fiddled with something in his hand. In his hand was an exquisite steel lock. The fact that these people could enter Zhao Hui's room so easily meant that none of their rooms were safe. Although this lock might not be able to stop these superhumans, it was still safer than the locks they were currently using.
Zhao Hui looked up at Li Wei, "Brother Li, who do you think did this?"
Li Wei paused, his calloused fingers gripping the parts tightly. "There are people in this base who admire her, and there are people who wish she were dead. We can't get close to these kinds of people. All we can do is give her appropriate reminders. Lin Ruo is smart; she can tell the difference herself."
“But what if these people are ambitious and treacherous, and Sister Ruo is eager for revenge? She could easily make a mistake and end up making enemies with so many bases. What if…” Zhao Hui was worried that Lin Ruo would be used as a tool and then become a scapegoat.
Li Wei put down the parts in his hand. "Although I don't know how strong Lin Ruo is now, judging from her usual style, she doesn't seem to be worried about offending these bases. So she's not afraid of these people. Don't overthink it."
Even so, a certain worry still lingered in the depths of his somewhat cloudy eyes.
Lin Ruo looked at the message Zhao Hui sent, her eyebrows raised in a high arc. She wasn't the kind of person who would believe whatever the other party told her. After having this information, she would naturally verify its credibility.
However, after learning that the other party had not shown up at all, the authenticity of the things she had in her hands became somewhat less certain.
She tapped a few times on the terminal, her eyes darting around, before finally finding a printer connected to her data in her spatial storage and printing everything out.
Lin Ruo ran her fingers over the freshly printed document, which was still warm to the touch. Looking at the names of the bases listed, she felt a surge of curiosity. If her investigation revealed the information to be genuine, why would the other party help her? Did they have ulterior motives?
First of all, this person definitely couldn't be Jiang Yue and the other two. Although she had only glanced through it, she could tell that it involved quite a few bases. Considering the bases, the three of them wouldn't have given her this information. So who could it be?
A glint of light flashed in Lin Ruo's eyes. She was truly curious.
She took a deep breath and temporarily stored the documents in her hand into her spatial storage. These things were making her somewhat irritable. In the apocalypse, if she hid her strength, she would be bullied; if she became powerful, she would be surrounded by all sorts of conspiracies and schemes. It was truly a very annoying situation.
This was still while she was living alone on a mountaintop, far from the base. If she had joined the base like in her previous life, she would have been schemed against countless times by now.
Fortunately, her trip to Hengshan yielded good results, otherwise she would have regretted exchanging that mutated fruit for that black stone.
She looked up at the clock on the wall; it was already 10:30 a.m. According to the instructions given by the superhumans yesterday, she had to visit several bases today. She shouldn't delay any longer, or she might not be able to return before dark.
She packed her things and walked out of the fortress gate.
Two towering trees outside the door were particularly eye-catching. After another night, Ah Liu and Lao Bai had absorbed all the energy. This time, their size had increased significantly, but the energy in their bodies was still far from enough to upgrade. Lin Ruo didn't intend for them to upgrade so quickly.
"Ah Liu, Lao Bai, I'm going out for a bit. I might be back quite late this time. If anyone dares to come up the mountain to provoke us, just kill them all without holding back."
A-Liu and Lao Bai's branches tapped in the air a few times, especially A-Liu, who was in a fit of anger and naturally wouldn't leave any way out for the humans who rushed up.
Since Lin Ruo pulled A Liu out of the space today, she was originally happy and wanted to share her joy of the energy boost with Lao Bai. However, Lao Bai instead described to her what had happened at home during the two days they were away.
When Ah Liu heard that some people had planned to steal things from the mountain while the owner was away, and that many of them had even escaped unscathed, she was furious. Without saying a word, she taught Lao Bai a lesson. Lao Bai was too soft-hearted; he had been bullied to the point of being taken advantage of, yet he still left the other party a way out. Those wolves with ulterior motives would not remember their kindness; this would only embolden them, and they might come back again. How many future troubles would this cause?
