The dark green surroundings and the blood-red liquid on the ground created an indescribable contrast, making it hard to breathe.
The dozen or so superhumans in the middle were the first to be hit. Fear magnified infinitely in their hearts, making them unable to hold on any longer and they began to beg for mercy.
"No, Miss Lin, we only broke in by accident and did not mean to offend you. Please let us go."
"Yes, as long as you release us, our base will definitely spend a lot of money to ransom us back."
"Miss Lin, what will it take for you to release us?"
The last person to speak was different from the others; he appeared much calmer and even knew how to negotiate with Lin Ruo.
Lin Ruo stared intently at the man. When she saw the shoulder insignia on his combat uniform, she raised an eyebrow slightly. Two silver five-pointed stars side by side. If she remembered correctly, this should be the rank of major general. Looking at the shoulder insignia of the others, she realized that this man was the highest-ranking among them.
"Who sent you? What are you here for?"
The man's expression froze, his breathing skipped a beat almost imperceptibly, and then he said sincerely, "We are here to seek cooperation with the B City base. As the land area continues to shrink, we must unite to overcome the natural disaster. We should put aside all the past grievances between our two countries."
Lin Ruo didn't waste any words with him. As soon as he finished speaking, the head of a level four ability user next to him exploded, and the splashing red and white liquid made the person's next words stuck in his throat.
"It's okay if you don't tell the truth. There are many of you, so there will be plenty of opportunities."
All the superhumans looked at Lin Ruo as if he were a madman. They worked for the military and this was the first time they had ever encountered someone who would kill them at the slightest provocation.
"You don't need to contact the B City base..."
Before the man could finish speaking, the heads of the two level-four ability users next to him exploded simultaneously, and the stench of blood in the air grew even stronger.
"You can't..."
"Bang!" This time it was the heads of three superhumans.
The man's expression changed. He had only said three sentences when six of his team's ability users had already died. Although there were quite a few level four ability users in their area, it was only after the Empire had spent a lot of crystal cores to cultivate them.
Thinking about the number of people who would die next, he could no longer say what he wanted to say.
Those level four ability users were already terrified and kept begging Lin Ruo for mercy, but Lin Ruo's eyes remained fixed on the major general.
"Why did you stop talking?" Seven glittering crystal cores floated in the air beside Lin Ruo, shining even more beautifully in the sunlight.
"What do you want to know?" Despite the mental pressure Lin Ruo exerted, the man still managed to speak.
"Who sent you? What are you here for?" Lin Ruo raised an eyebrow. "I want to hear the truth."
The man took a deep breath. "Our country's land area is already critically low, and we want to relocate eastward en masse."
What he said was true. Due to the altitude, many people in their country have lost their lives at sea, making migration inevitable. For them, the best place is China.
Lin Ruo closed her eyes slightly, and the expression of horror on the face of the superhuman next to her immediately appeared. Just as she opened her mouth to say something, she used her mental power, and the heads of four more superhumans exploded.
The deafening sound of his head exploding, along with the splattering blood and fragments, repeatedly assaulted the major general's psychological defenses.
Lin Ruo opened her eyes again and looked at the person, "You'd better think this through, because you might be next time."
"Let us speak! Let us say it!"
As if afraid that this person wouldn't tell the truth, all four superhumans eventually broke down and vied to tell Lin Ruo the answer.
But the next second they couldn't open their mouths. Lin Ruo didn't want to hear their answers. What she really wanted to know was something these people might not know. She wanted the major general to speak.
When the man realized his teammate couldn't even speak, his face turned pale. There were exactly five people left. "What do you want to know?!"
"Tell me everything you know, or your head will explode next time." If she didn't think this person held a high position and might know something, she wouldn't have been so patient.
She knew it was fake as soon as she heard what this person said. If their mission was really like that, why would they ignore the warnings from the fighter jets at the B City base and insist on flying over her mountain? She would never believe that it had nothing to do with her.
At this moment, the foreigner was under tremendous pressure. If he said the wrong thing, the lives of the rest of them would be in danger. It wouldn't matter if it were anyone else, but this time it was his turn.
“We are here on orders to discuss cooperation with the B City base, but how can we deal with you if we want to cooperate? The information sent back by our informant at the B City base is that you can help people awaken superpowers, and there is even a possibility of awakening secondary superpowers. So we want to capture you, transport you back to China, and conduct research.”
Lin Ruo's mental energy remained around these people. The speechless superhumans nearby all had expressions of relief when they heard this news, so it seemed to be true.
But the information in this person's words had a familiar feel to it. She chuckled. Sure enough, her suspicions were correct. The mastermind behind the Fog Shadow Base was overseas!
Thinking back to before the apocalypse, these people liked to wage biological warfare with viruses and bacteria. She sneered, "Their hearts and hands are filthy, and their methods are always so underhanded!"
So why did these people in their past lives instigate internal strife within the country? They took the opportunity to control those bases, all for the purpose of annexing the entire Z country!
Considering the recent rumors surrounding her, and what this person just said about their mole, the connection became even clearer. It seemed that her existence was hindering their actions, so they wanted to get rid of her as soon as possible.
"How many spies like the Fog Shadow Base do you have? Are they only targeting Country Z, or are they scattered all over the world?"
The man, who had been resigned to his fate, paused, looking up at Lin Ruo in astonishment. He didn't even want to hide anymore; his psychological defenses had collapsed. That's one good thing about foreigners: they are all afraid of death. Once they realize that their lives are truly threatened, it's much easier to extract a confession from them than from Chinese people.
"How do you know we're connected to the Hidden Mist Base?"
With a thought, all the remaining level four ability users were blown off their heads, leaving only two level five ability users. These two were so frightened that they took several deep breaths and watched helplessly as three crystal cores of different colors flew out from the blood and filth. They were cleaned up in the air and eventually returned to the group of crystal cores that had been floating around Lin Ruo.
That wasn't the scariest part. The scariest part was that the woman in front of them was staring at them and slowly saying, "From now on, you two are in competition mode. Whoever's answer satisfies me, the other one will suffer. Are you ready? Let's begin."
