Chapter 512 Catching the Bait

With a tremor of her wings, she instantly spun upwards, rising to a height of a thousand meters. She hovered in the air, unleashing her spiritual power to its maximum extent for only a few hours.

Even if they left by plane, these people couldn't get very far. Besides, she didn't find an airport or runway in this experimental base, which means they don't have large passenger planes. If they want to escape, the fastest means of transportation is a boat.

She scanned the surrounding area inch by inch with her mental energy, and could even "see" the roots of the mutated plants around her clearly, not to mention some details.

Within minutes, she noticed burn marks on some of the mutated plants in one spot. Although the marks had been covered up, the plants were still alive and actively repairing themselves, making the burn marks particularly noticeable.

She followed this direction and, sure enough, found some shallow footprints on the beach.

She looked up and gazed into the distance in that direction, the corners of her mouth slowly lifting slightly beneath her mask. Such an obvious clue was clearly meant to lure her in this direction. Thinking of the experimental subjects who had been killed before, and given the ruthlessness of these Japanese, there might be some bait this time as well. With a flash, she disappeared from the spot.

...

"Michiko, how far are we from the base now?" A man in a black combat uniform walked into the ship's control room and asked the woman sitting next to the console.

The woman called Michiko had long black hair, wore black-rimmed glasses, and had a serious expression. She was the only person on the ship who could steer it.

This ship is the largest in their base, and there are nearly two thousand people on board. They should be happy to have escaped the experimental base, but thinking about their mission, they can't feel happy at all.

They were nothing more than bait to lure out the enemy; compared to their own people who were killed in the base, they only had a slightly better chance of survival.

"Reporting to the commander, our current coordinates are more than 500 kilometers away from the previous base. According to the previous plan, we will arrive at the destination island in another five hours."

The man looked up at the vast sea ahead, his heart pounding with fear. There weren't many superhumans in their base to begin with, and even fewer were assigned to their ship.

Crossing such a long route now is really a stretch, and if they encounter powerful mutated sea monsters, they will have a very difficult time fighting them.

Just then, a superhuman walked in from outside, looking somewhat flustered. Before he could say anything, their ship rocked violently.

"Sir, we have encountered an attack by a large number of mutated sea beasts," the superhuman reported as soon as he stood firm. "These sea beasts are all at level three or four, but there are so many of them that our ship's crystal cannons probably can't stop them."

Michiko struggled to control the ship as the man followed the superhuman onto the deck. Explosions were already ringing out all around them, and all three crystal cannons on the ship were in use, firing light bullets one after another, making the blood-red color in the water increasingly intense.

However, these light projectiles are much less effective at sea than on land. Once they are fired into the water, the blast radius is reduced by more than half. Therefore, many mutated sea monsters can avoid these light projectiles by simply sinking their bodies into the deep sea.

In addition, the hides of these mutated sea monsters in the sea are very thick, which reduces their damage value and makes the battle between the two sides very stalemate.

Some mutated sea monsters are quite clever. Instead of charging straight at the light projectiles, they circle around from the deep sea to the bottom of the ship and ram it. Once the ship is sunk by them, they can get their hands on the food on board.

The massive ship began to rock violently, sometimes tilting at more than 40 degrees, and many people on board were thrown overboard because they could not stand steadily.

Those who fell in were instantly swallowed whole by the mutated sea monster below. In the water, they couldn't even struggle or resist. The mutated sea monster opened its huge mouth and swallowed them and the water in one gulp.

For a moment, terrified screams and cries for help mingled with the sound of the waves, making them exceptionally clear.

At this moment, Lin Ruo's figure suddenly appeared in the air, and the pair of ice wings on her back shone brightly under the sunlight, immediately attracting the attention of all the creatures around her.

The mutated sea beasts could sense the power of this ability user. The pressure emanating from her made them unable to resist in the slightest. They were just some level three or four mutated sea beasts and did not want to provoke such a powerful ability user. Originally, they thought they would just retreat and give up the feast that was already within their grasp.

But within moments, they discovered that this powerful figure was simply hovering in the sky, watching the humans who had fallen into the sea, with a hint of glee in his eyes and a very pleased expression on his face.

Now they regained their confidence. It seemed that they were not together, and even had a grudge. They tentatively bumped the hull a few more times to make sure she did not stop them, and then they felt relieved and continued to enjoy their sumptuous meal.

When the people on the ship saw the figure in the air, their initial worries turned to utter despair. It was Lin Ruo! They didn't believe Lin Ruo had come to rescue them. All the experimental bases in Country Z had been destroyed by Lin Ruo, and she always ruthlessly exterminated their organization.

In an instant, everyone on the ship was completely thrown off guard.

"It's Lin Ruo! We're doomed! She's caught up! We've lost all hope!"

"Why! We've done so much, how did she still manage to find us!"

No matter how distraught these people were, the mutated sea monsters in the ocean showed no mercy. Taking advantage of the panic on the ship, they smashed the entire vessel to pieces, and all those people fell into the water.

One by one, they were bitten to pieces and swallowed by these mutated beasts.

Michiko, who had just been navigating the boat, saw a mutated dolphin swimming towards her. Without thinking, she shouted into the air, "We escaped separately. We were just bait. I know which way they went. Please save me!"

Lin Ruo raised an eyebrow. She hadn't made a move before because she wanted to see if there were any smart people among them. She wasn't disappointed; even with so many people on this ship, there were still some who knew what was good for them.

She stretched out her fingers and lifted them upwards, and Michiko was instantly lifted into the air by a water whip wrapped around her waist.

The remaining humans struggling in the water and the mutated sea beasts hunting were all cleanly decapitated by the water blades, their heads spreading across the water in large patches of red. The corpses of the mutated beasts disappeared into the water in the next second.

The crystal cores of those superhumans were also completely harvested by the water flow and thrown into Lin Ruo's space along with the corpses of those mutated beasts.
