The sky was dark and overcast, with only a faint glimmer of light filtering through the clouds. Before long, eight days had passed.
A week ago, Afu and Ashou suddenly started to sleep excessively, sometimes even refusing to eat. Lin Ruo was initially shocked, thinking they were sick, but her healing abilities had no effect, which made her extremely anxious.
She wanted to give them medication, but she didn't know what disease they had. If it weren't for the fact that they seemed perfectly fine when they were awake, without any pain or itching, she would have kidnapped a veterinarian to treat them.
Lin Ruo observed them carefully for two days and found that they were not only lethargic, but also growing faster, changing almost every day.
At first, she thought they were just fruits from the space that had grown too fast because they ate too much of them.
Later, she accidentally found several motionless rats in the pipes. They weren't dead; they were just sleeping.
She then realized something was wrong and used her mental energy to investigate her surroundings, discovering many similar situations.
She suddenly realized that the mutations in animals had already begun long ago, not at the time or within the scope that humans believed, but simply at different degrees, and some were not even noticeable.
Perhaps the energy rain only amplifies their mutations, rather than being the source of them.
Lin Ruo snapped out of her daze, glanced at her watch, and realized that the energy rain would appear in half an hour. She needed to take Afu and Ashou to the rooftop ahead of time.
"Ah Fu and Ah Shou, let's go to the rooftop."
Ah Fu and Ah Shou have just woken up and eaten, so they're not very sleepy yet.
They thought Lin Ruo was finally going to take them out to play, and they jumped and skipped with joy. Although they could usually run around in the space, Lin Ruo couldn't go in, and they hoped to go out and play with Lin Ruo.
Lin Ruo left quietly, and the 25th floor was completely silent. Afu and Ashou also moved quietly.
"Click!" The door to 2502 opened, and a small head poked out—it was DouDou.
His eyes lit up when he saw Afu and Ashou come out, and he stared at them, asking Lin Ruo, "Sister, are you taking them out?"
Lin Ruo glanced inside room 2502 and casually remarked, "They're bored at home, I'm taking them to the rooftop for a while."
"Can I go?" DouDou asked excitedly.
Lin Ruo glanced at the opposite door again. She knew Qian Li was behind the door; she could hear her breathing.
"We should ask Mom about this, DouDou." If Qian Li agrees, it would be good to take DouDou to get some energy rain, since children are more likely to survive in the apocalypse after they awaken their superpowers.
Of course, if they disagree, she won't force them; it's all their own decision.
"Mom! Can I go to the rooftop to play for a while? With Sister Ruoruo and Afu and Ashou." Dou Dou was very happy. Every time he wanted to play with Afu and Ashou, his sister would stop him. He didn't want to miss this great opportunity.
Qian Li, who was standing behind the door, could no longer hide after hearing this. She came out and gave Lin Ru an apologetic look before turning to Dou Dou.
"DouDou, be good. You had a fever a few days ago. We don't have that many medicines right now. Even a small illness or pimple can be dangerous. It's still raining on the rooftop. Shall we not go?"
Dou Dou was reluctant, but he was an obedient child. He remembered how worried his parents were when he had a fever last time, and he didn't want them to worry, so he had to give up playing with Afu and Ashou.
"Okay..." Dou Dou said softly, then turned to look at Lin Ruo, "Sister, you should wear a raincoat too, so you don't catch a cold."
Lin Ruo nodded without saying anything. This was their own choice. Sometimes you can only get benefits by taking risks. If you just keep shrinking back, you will get nothing.
Having wasted a lot of time, she quickly led Afu and Ashou upstairs and disappeared around the corner of the stairs.
Watching the other person's disappearing figure, DouDou followed her mother home dejectedly.
Upon reaching the rooftop, Afu and Ashou looked around curiously, sniffing everywhere with their extremely sensitive noses. They couldn't understand what was so fun about this open space.
Time passed second by second. Lin Ruo looked up at the sky in the rain. Before long, the heavy rain gradually subsided. Lin Ruo quickly took out more than a dozen buckets and basins that she had prepared in advance and placed them on the open ground at the entrance of the building.
By this time, the rain in the sky had lessened to a light drizzle. Lin Ruo felt the warmth of the raindrops hitting her body, and she knew that the energy rain had begun.
Afu and Ashou didn't think much about it; they just felt that the rain was very comfortable on their bodies, and they ran around happily on the rooftop.
Lin Ruo sat in the rain, circulating her water-based superpowers, rapidly absorbing the constantly falling energy rain. The energy rain fell on her body and quickly transformed into a stream of energy that circulated throughout her body, eventually converging into her two crystal cores.
Lin Ruo felt the energy in the crystal core growing rapidly, and her physical condition reached its peak. She even felt that her mental strength was slowly increasing under the nourishment of the energy rain.
The energy rain only lasted for half an hour. When the rain stopped, Lin Ruo stood up and poured the rainwater she had just collected together. With more than a dozen tools, she had only collected one bucket of rainwater.
"Well, something is better than nothing." Lin Ruo didn't directly collect the rainwater into her spatial storage. The rooftop was exposed on all sides, and if someone saw it, she would face trouble, and she hated trouble.
Carrying buckets and tools, she led Afu and Ashou into the stairwell. The instant they entered the stairwell, she glanced back and saw a man in black disappear quickly.
Lin Ruo frowned slightly. After thinking about it carefully, she realized that she hadn't done anything out of line. So she turned around and walked into the stairwell. After turning the corner and making sure that she was blocking all the view, she put everything she was carrying into her spatial storage.
