Chapter 73 Bearskin Curtain

"Bang!"

"Woof woof!"

"Awoo!"

Lin Ruo had just finished reading when she heard a crashing sound and screams outside.

Looking down from the sunroom, she saw a troop of monkeys. Lin Ruo counted them carefully; there were sixteen in total. Each monkey was about 1.5 meters tall. They weren't very big, but there were a lot of them.

Five animals were already entangled in Ah Liu's willow branches and hanging upside down in the air. Ah Liu's willow branches were piercing their chests, and gushing blood was dripping quickly down Ah Liu's willow branches onto the ground, where a small pool of blood ice had already appeared on the platform.

The other eleven were still attacking the fortress from different angles, but the fortress was impregnable, and no matter how they rammed or scratched it, it was to no avail.

"squeak--"

Some monkeys noticed the difference in the sunroom on the second floor of the fortress, and made noises to notify their companions while they began to climb up to the second floor. When these monkeys saw Lin Ruo sitting in the sunroom, they became even more frantic.

Although the bulletproof glass on the second floor is not as strong as the underground ore, it is not something these monkeys can break through.

Lin Ruo raised an eyebrow as she looked at the monkeys baring their teeth at her. Although there wasn't much meat from these monkeys, she couldn't very well refuse something that was offered to her.

She went downstairs, where Afu and Ashou were already waiting by the door, making threatening noises, but they couldn't open the latch on the door and could only watch helplessly.

Upon seeing Lin Ruo come downstairs, they quickly ran over, pushing her toward the door while whispering complaints to her.

"I know, I'll open the door for you right away." Lin Ruo was pushed to the door by them and quickly opened the fortress gate.

As soon as the door opened, the monkey outside tried to pounce in, but was immediately tackled by Afu who rushed out. The monkey's huge canine teeth pierced its trachea, and it died on the spot.

Lin Ruo was only wearing a nightgown. She shivered from the cold and quickly activated her water-based superpower. After the chill dissipated, she took another look at the battlefield.

Ah Liu had already entangled three more monkeys, leaving only eight alive. Not enough for Ah Fu and Ah Shou to play with, so there was no point in her going out. To prevent any monkeys from rushing in, she simply closed the fortress gate.

These monkeys aren't very strong, so Afu and Ashou can use them to practice their speed.

She walked to the fireplace and saw that the logs beside it were almost burned out. She found a large tree that she had cut down earlier in her spatial storage and used her water-based abilities to drain the water. She stored the water aside so that A-Liu could give it to drink when she had time.

The withered tree was cut into 40-centimeter-long logs by Lin Ruo using his spatial blade. This big tree was only ten meters tall, and only more than twenty logs were cut off.

With so many fireplaces in the house probably not enough, she simply took out a large, chopped-down tree and repeated the process.

There were more than fifty logs in total, which were stacked next to several fireplaces so that they would be easy to access when Aliu was adding wood.

With such a large fortress, it would take about a dozen logs a day to keep all the fireplaces burning.

Just as Lin Ruo placed the log by the fireplace, the battle outside had ended, and A Fu and A Shou, with mouths full of blood, scratched the door a couple of times.

Lin Ruo dressed and opened the fortress gate, only to see Afu and Ashou lying on the platform licking their fur. The ground around them was littered with monkey corpses, some with their necks bitten off, some with their hearts ripped out by sharp claws, and some with their chests pierced by willow branches.

Lin Ruo put the corpses of the mutated monkeys into his spatial storage and used his mental power to search through their brains, finding two level-one crystal cores.

"Well done! From now on, the safety of the fortress is in your hands." Lin Ruo gave Afu and Ashou a thumbs up and washed a basin of strawberries for each of them as a reward.

After today's events, Lin Ruo realized a problem: the fortress gate couldn't be kept closed forever, as it would be inconvenient for Afu and Ashou to come and go, but if the gate was kept open, the temperature inside the house simply wouldn't rise.

After thinking for a long time, Lin Ruo decided to install a thick curtain on the front door so that it would not restrict them and would also block the cold wind.

She can't sew, but that's okay, she has the skills.

She rummaged through her space and found the curtain she had bought for free at the supermarket. Using this curtain as a reference, she found some cotton-padded clothes that she could no longer wear. These were all collected during the free purchase and she didn't think they were of any use at the time, but now they came in handy.

She took the cotton-padded clothes apart, took out the cotton inside, and put it aside. Soon, the cotton had piled up into a small heap.

There was also the black bear skin that Afu and Ashou had hunted before. The black bear was tall, and its skin was perfect for a door curtain. Lin Ruo used the tanning method she had downloaded before to tan the black bear skin with her water-based supernatural abilities.

With the materials in hand, she began to assemble them in her spatial dimension. The needle and thread were controlled by Lin Ruo's mental power, but she still made several mistakes in sewing. Each time she made a mistake, Lin Ruo had to take it apart and start over.

After more than an hour of research, they finally developed an ultra-thick door curtain.

The outermost layer of the curtain was made of black bear skin, and the inside was stuffed with down cotton. Lin Ruo also sewed two layers of cotton curtains that she got from the supermarket inside the curtain, making it super thick.

The curtain was sewn shut by Lin Ruo with dense stitches, and she left a gap in the middle of the curtain to make it easier for Afu and Ashou to come and go.

Lin Ruo looked at it from left to right and was very satisfied. This was her first time doing needlework, and she had achieved a very good result.

She took the curtain out of the space, and Afu and Ashou came over curiously and smelled it again and again.

"Afu, come here," Lin Ruo looked up at the 6-meter-high door frame, and instead of using her water-based abilities to build a ladder, she simply beckoned Afu over to be used as a ladder.

Afu came running over excitedly, his two front paws on the wall, leaning against it. Lin Ruo stepped on Afu's back, just enough to reach the door frame.
