Dozens of mutated cats were in the forest, some crouching in the trees waiting for an opportunity to attack, while others had already pounced on them, scratching and biting them.
These mutant cats are not large in size, but they are much faster than ordinary people, and there are so many of them that they will group together in groups of several or a dozen to attack a single prey.
The scene was chaotic, and people didn't care about supplies; they all ran forward for their lives.
But those mutant cats still retain some feline instincts, such as a love for chasing moving objects, and those who run the fastest often become the ones who die the fastest.
The mutated cats' sharp claws and teeth tore and gnawed at these people. They didn't bite their throats to kill them, but instead tore open their flesh bit by bit, watching them run faster because of the pain. Then they would chase after them and bite again, just like playing with a mouse.
To them now, humans are no different than rats were before.
"We'll fight them to the death!"
Some people were provoked by the mutated cat's teasing manner and picked up their weapons to fight back. But how could a human's speed compare to that of a mutated cat? One by one, these people who resisted were pounced on and knocked down.
These people's attempts to retaliate with weapons not only failed to harm the mutated cats, but also attracted their attention, leading to even more gruesome deaths.
As Lin Ruo stood by and watched the battle, several mutated cats attacked her. Lin Ruo subconsciously pulled out a black jade dagger from her waist and stabbed it into the neck of a mutated cat. The blood from the mutated cat's neck instantly soaked Lin Ruo's gloves, and it collapsed to the ground with a thud.
Seeing this, the mutated cat next to her also attacked Lin Ruo. Lin Ruo slightly turned her body to dodge the mutated cat's claws, and then slid a knife towards the back of her neck.
"Awooo!" A cat fell to the ground.
She then kicked away a mutated cat that was lunging at her, and thrust the dagger in her hand to her side again, piercing the eye of another mutated cat.
In the blink of an eye, three or four mutated cat corpses were left beside her. These mutated cats realized that Lin Ruo was not someone to be trifled with, and they all changed their targets.
But the people next to her also saw Lin Ruo's movements and subconsciously moved towards her.
These people tried to get closer, but Lin Ruo stepped back a few meters, once again distancing herself from them.
The mutated cat launched another attack, successfully halting the group's advance. Many glared angrily at Lin Ruo, ready to unleash their fury.
"Bang! Bang!"
A squad of soldiers rushed towards them from a distance, firing their rifles at the mutated cats, and many of them were hit.
Many of the mutated cats died or were injured, and the rest scattered and fled.
"Is everyone alright?" Jiang Yue, who was leading the group, held a rifle in his hand. He saw that there were still more than a dozen people in the crowd who were safe and sound, while the others were either dead or injured.
"Thank you! Luckily you arrived in time, otherwise we would all be finished!" A man knelt on the ground, his mask bobbing up and down as he gasped for breath. The mask was immediately soaked by his exhaled hot breath and instantly froze.
"Are you soldiers from City B? You've come just in time."
"Yes, look at us, the old, weak, sick, and disabled. We almost all died here when we encountered those damned monsters!"
"That's right! You guys are so kind-hearted, unlike some people..."
As he spoke, the man glanced at Lin Ruo, who was standing at the farthest point. He had originally intended to complain, but then he saw the cold look in Lin Ruo's eyes through her mask and the blood on her dagger.
He then remembered the other party's skills, so he changed the subject, "Could you please do us a favor and take us to the base in City B?"
"Yes, we're also going to the B City base, so we're going the same way as you..."
"From now on, we're all survivors from the same base. Please do me a favor, comrades..."
Jiang Yue was, after all, a soldier. With so many people surrounding him and pleading with him, he really couldn't just sit idly by. But he had a mission to fulfill this mission.
"Line up in one row!"
"yes!"
Thirty people in the neatly arranged line stepped forward and stood upright in front of Jiang Yue.
“You’re responsible for sending these people back to base,” Jiang Yue glanced at the crowd again before continuing, “and after they’re back at base, go back and wait for orders.”
"yes!"
"You are such kind people!"
Thank you!
Jiang Yue led his team away quickly amidst a chorus of thanks. A line of soldiers stood guard outside the crowd, holding guns and carrying the mutated cats they had killed on the ground.
When they found the item next to Lin Ruo, Lin Ruo lowered her voice and stopped them, saying, "This is my prey."
The soldier looked at Lin Ruo with surprise, withdrew his hand, and nodded.
The soldiers stood around the crowd, constantly on guard.
Lin Ruo did not follow, and the soldiers glanced at her again but did not try to persuade her otherwise.
In their view, they are responsible for all their actions in the apocalypse. Since Lin Ruo did not keep up with the group, it is only natural that he was not rescued when he encountered danger.
She unleashed her mental power and waited until the group had completely disappeared before storing the mutated cat she had killed on the ground into her spatial storage. She then changed into a mask and gloves, put on a layer of invisibility water film, and continued walking towards the B City base.
At her speed, she quickly caught up with the previous group again. As she passed by, she heard someone talking to the soldier next to them, asking about the recent situation at the B City base.
Lin Ruo slowed her pace and followed behind, listening attentively.
"Comrade, will the B City base provide us with supplies?" "No, but you can find jobs in the official lobby and earn points to buy supplies yourself."
"Will the base assign us places to live?" "Yes, initially everyone lives in dormitories, but later you can move into apartments based on your points. Apartments are single rooms."
