The night was deep and dark, like falling into an abyss.
In the dark forest, Lin Ruo rode Afu and Ashou at high speed. Soon, they arrived in the mountains outside the firebreak of the B City base.
She extended her spiritual power forward and saw the B City base. She raised an eyebrow slightly. It had only been two months since she last visited, and the B City base had developed so quickly.
The original rings of dugouts on the outer perimeter have now been replaced by houses built of stone and mud, with cellars beneath them. These cellars are dug very deep, and for safety, many have corners. These houses are built around the perimeter of the base, arranged in rows in a staggered pattern, truly resembling a small town before the apocalypse.
The survivors outside looked much better than before. Although they were still somewhat thin and had sunburns on their faces, they had the strength to work, which meant they had been able to eat recently.
They now have hope for the future, and many of them have a smile on their faces.
Lin Ruo watched these people bustling about outside the base and couldn't help but wonder how the B City base managed to ensure that all of them had food to eat.
Then Lin Ruo saw what those people were holding and realized that with the prolonged extreme heat and the heavy rain from the last time, many kinds of mutated insects had sprung up around them. Most of these insects had crystal cores. Although the insects liked to swarm, they could still be killed if the right method was found.
It's just unknown whether any of these insects are like the mutated sea worms in the H City base, which have both crystal cores and can be eaten. If so, then the people in B City have truly found the key to survival.
Lin Ruo also saw many survivors on the outskirts carrying back the mutated beast carcasses they had killed to sell to the base. She raised an eyebrow slightly. These were definitely not meant for human consumption; were they meant to be used to feed the beast controllers' pets? Why would the base accept so many?
Lin Ruo jumped off Ashou's back and said to Afu and Ashou, "You two go play around nearby for a while. I'll call you when I'm done with my work. Don't go too far."
Afu responded to Lin Ruo with a "woof," and Ashou's big tail swept across Lin Ruo's arm before the two quickly ran away.
They had been staying on that mountain peak for the past few days, adhering to the principle that the mountain belonged to them, so they couldn't just play around freely, nor could they kill all the mutated beasts in the battle. Now that they had reached the main peak, they immediately went to wreak havoc on those mutated beasts.
Lin Ruo enveloped herself in a layer of invisibility water film, darting out like a ghost. Having undergone intense gravity training, accustomed to several times the normal gravity every day, she felt incredibly light in the present environment, as if she had defied gravity.
Her destination was the laboratory at the B City base; she wanted to check if the crystal energy cannon was ready.
At Lin Ruo's speed, he arrived at the foot of the B City wall in just a few minutes. Looking at the wall, which had been reinforced and raised again, Lin Ruo didn't want to jump up again. With a thought, he opened his spatial domain and disappeared from the outside in the next instant.
Upon entering the B City base, Lin Ruo fully expanded his mental power and discovered what the B City base used the mutated animal flesh and blood for: to raise insects! And the ones they were raising were the same mutated sea worms from the H City base!
Through mental power, at the right rear edge of the B City base, there are two extremely large breeding ponds made of underground minerals. These ponds are divided into eight smaller breeding ponds, all filled with seawater, which is densely packed with mutated sea worms being bred.
The eight small breeding ponds are divided according to the size of the mutated sea worms. Only three of the small breeding ponds contain mutated sea worms with crystal nuclei.
Lin Ruo watched as the staff, dressed in special uniforms, scooped mutated sea worms with crystal cores from a breeding pond, skillfully extracted the crystal cores, and then collected the sea worm corpses into a large basket next to them. Without asking, they were definitely going to eat them.
It turns out that the base in City B had already discovered these mutated sea worms and had begun to raise them. Judging from the scale of the breeding, Lin Ruo couldn't help but sigh, "As expected of an official base, they act so quickly."
Using her mental energy to bypass the area, she discovered that the laboratory building at the B City base had recently been renovated. Not only was its size more than double that of the previous building, but it also had a huge warehouse connected to the rear, which was constructed entirely of underground ore.
Lin Ruo raised an eyebrow slightly. Weren't all the underground ore from the B City base used to build the underground base? Why are they suddenly making such a big investment to renovate the laboratory as well?
She spread her mental energy out and quickly found the answer: in the huge warehouse behind the laboratory, two space ability users wearing Qiyuan Base combat uniforms were rapidly unloading underground ore from the space onto both sides of the warehouse.
Lin Ruo reached out and touched his chin. Yang Songming, a man who wouldn't do anything without a reason, must have received some benefit for contributing this underground ore. The benefit that would make him so eager to get it must be the crystal energy gun and crystal energy cannon that the B City base had just successfully developed.
Thinking about Yang Songming's mindset, Lin Ruo could understand it very well. The last time the mutated sea monsters came ashore, they probably caused a lot of casualties to the Qiyuan Base, which was why he was so eager to obtain new weapons.
At the B City base, they have outstanding experimental personnel, and their weapons are rapidly updated. For them, the most scarce resource is precious materials like underground ores. Only with these materials can they develop even more powerful weapons.
Sure enough, after the superhumans at the B City base counted the amount of underground ore, they had the others bring over two crystal energy cannons and several crystal energy guns from the inner warehouse.
