The floodwaters were raging, and many boats were floating on the water in search of supplies, drifting in different directions with the current.
Before setting off, Zhao Hui had already anticipated the previous situation, so he found many supermarket locations on the map. After leaving Hengxing Shopping Mall, he led his team to search several large supermarkets, but these supermarkets were either flooded or had their food looted by others.
The people on the boat visibly began to worry, but Zhao Hui smiled and comforted them, "Don't worry, I have another good place, that place definitely has it!"
"Really!" Kong Wenhao's expression changed, and he excitedly asked, "Where?"
"You'll see when you get there. Turn right at the intersection ahead, quick!" Zhao Hui tried to discern directions through the thick rain.
The three boats struggled through the floodwaters. The journey was quite long, and Kong Wenhao was exhausted. Lin Ruo patted him on the shoulder and held out her hand, "Give me the oars, and you go and scoop out the water."
Kong Wenhao knew he couldn't hold on any longer, so he stopped refusing and handed the oar to Lin Ruo.
Lin Ruo and Li Wei became the rowers on this boat, and their combined strength resulted in their boat going so fast that they almost left the two boats behind them behind.
"Slow down! Slow down! We can't keep up!" Miao Wei shouted at them from behind.
Lin Ruo and Li Wei exchanged a glance and relaxed their strength, allowing the two boats behind them to catch up with the speed.
Zhao Hui led them to a large chain supermarket in a relatively remote commercial office building area. The supermarket was on the fifteenth floor, and there were only two boats moored outside.
They had wasted a lot of time on the road, so Zhao Hui changed his strategy to speed things up. He left Lin Ruo to stay by the boat while the other eleven people went to collect supplies.
"Sister Ruo, you stay here and watch the boat. We'll all go get the supplies. I'll get yours for you," Zhao Hui instructed Lin Ruo.
Lin Ruo nodded, "Okay."
The people in buildings 5 and 6 were worried about Lin Ruo watching over the boat herself, as it was an important tool and couldn't afford any mishaps. However, Zhao Hui's words put their minds at ease.
"Don't trust me? Can we even beat Sister Ruo together?"
Thinking about it carefully, it makes sense. If even one person can't protect the ship, then what's the point of having them all here?
The four people from buildings 5 and 6 immediately decided to go and move the supplies together.
Lin Ruo was tired of killing people today and didn't want to get into any more conflicts, so she simply took the Desert Eagle that was tucked into her waistband and held it in her hand. The people guarding the ship all lowered their heads and kept their ears down when they saw the gun in her hand.
Lin Ruo nodded in satisfaction. After all, this was the early stage of the apocalypse, and people's fear of firearms was still very high. Once some people awakened their superpowers, these guns would not be so frightening.
Because finding supplies this time was quite troublesome, and the supermarket might not be available next time they come, Zhao Hui and his group decided to take advantage of the abundance of supplies here and move more back with them.
Lin Ruo sat by the boat watching it. The remaining eleven people made several trips back and forth to carry supplies. This time, the supplies were quite complete, including rice, flour, instant food, and even snacks that Lin Ruo liked. Lin Ruo was very surprised. They couldn't find a single grain of rice over there, but the supplies here were so complete.
“This place is an office building area, and there are no residential areas around it. People who have never been here would never imagine that there is such a supermarket. Many people who have been here do not have transportation to come here, so there are so many supplies left.”
Seeing Lin Ruo's surprised expression, Zhao Hui quietly explained that he had only come here once by chance before and only then did he realize that there was a large supermarket here.
Lin Ruo nodded, looking at the people constantly coming and going. These people must be in the same situation as Zhao Hui.
Don't be fooled by the fact that there are relatively few supplies right now; it's because some supplies are buried underwater and can't be retrieved.
Once the floodwaters recede, supermarkets and grain warehouses that were submerged will be exposed, increasing the availability of food and alleviating people's food shortages.
However, this is followed by extremely cold weather, and it is uncertain whether people can survive in the extreme cold.
Zhao Hui and his group only gave up when there were no more empty seats on the boat, and the waterline of the kayak had already dropped very low.
On the way back, everyone wore expressions of excitement and apprehension. They were excited because the food they had brought back was enough to last them two months, but apprehensive because they feared they might be robbed on the way.
Lin Ruo and the others could only sit on the side of the boat, their raincoats covering the high pile of supplies. There was no other way; at this stage, supplies were more important than people.
Because of the increased load on the boat, the task of rowing became more difficult, and the boat moved much slower. Fortunately, Lin Ruo and Li Wei were both strong, so they had to take turns rowing, otherwise they might not be able to keep up.
Sitting on the boat, Zhao Hui muttered to himself, planning the safest routes in his mind. These routes were wide, farthest from the various residential areas, and least likely to be robbed.
Even so, they encountered a fishing boat halfway there. There were six people on board, all of them carrying knives and with fierce faces, clearly never having gone hungry.
Seeing that they had so many supplies on their ship, those people couldn't wait to sail over and rob them.
Zhao Hui's team panicked immediately. The main problem was that the other team was using fishing boats, which were made of iron, while their lifeboats were inflatable. They couldn't fight like that at all, and they were at a complete disadvantage.
Zhao Hui quickly turned to Lin Ruo, who was rowing the boat, and asked, "Sister Ruo, is there any way? Our boat is no good, it's too flimsy."
Lin Ruo glanced at the fishing boat opposite her but didn't say anything.
"What are we going to do?!"
Although they knew Lin Ruo was a skilled fighter and had a gun, the enemy ship had cover, so as long as they hid inside, Lin Ruo wouldn't be able to hit them.
