There was no one on the empty street. After he took a step forward, the street lights lit up one by one, beginning to illuminate the quiet darkness. The light made his shadow longer and longer, making him look extremely lonely.
Fujiwara Yu looked around in confusion, wondering how he ended up in such a space. Was he dreaming?
"Xiaoyou, what are you going to eat for breakfast tomorrow? Do you want to try Mom's special Love Omurice? I'll remove the green beans you don't like and replace them with edamame you like."
It's my mother's voice.
He stretched out his hand to try to catch the shadow in front of him, but found that he couldn't catch it no matter how hard he tried.
——"Xiaoyou, Mom may not be able to see you get married."
The smell of disinfectant lingered at the tip of my nose, and I could even hear my heartbeat.
The heartbeat gradually became slower, boom, boom... boom.
The street lights suddenly went out, and along with them, the faint heartbeat disappeared.
Fujiwara Yu, who was lying flat on the bed, suddenly sat up. He was gasping for breath, his pupils dilated, and the thin layer of sweat on his forehead showed that he had just been trapped in a nightmare.
It was a similar nightmare again. The scene of sending his mother off surfaced in his mind. He lowered his head and fell silent. Sometimes having a good memory can be a disadvantage. Selectively trying to forget the fact that his mother had passed away actually had the opposite effect, deepening the memory.
Fujiwara Yu picked up the watch next to his pillow, checked the time and it was only 1:40 AM, and prepared to go back to sleep. But just as he lay down, he heard a noise at the door. Who could be outside at this hour? Could a thief have gotten into the police academy dormitory?
He slowly stood up and tiptoed towards the door, trying to make his movements as light and slow as possible. He pressed the door handle to reveal a tiny crack in the door, and found a dark figure with its back to him.
He squinted his eyes to adapt himself to the dark environment as much as possible. When the black shadow turned around, he realized that it was not a thief but Jinpei Matsuda who lived across the street.
Fujiwara Yu witnessed Matsuda Jinpei sneaking down the stairs. He raised his brows slightly in confusion, not understanding why he was running outside at this time. The convenience store closed at 8 o'clock in the evening.
Curiosity drove him, and of course he was more worried that Jinpei Matsuda was going to do something "bad" again.
He walked towards the stairs in the dark, quietly following behind Matsuda Jinpei, until he reached the first floor and walked out of the dormitory building, only then did he realize that he had lost the person.
"...Strange, where did he go?"
Just as Fujiwara Yu was wondering where Matsuda had run to, the sound of a very light conversation caught his attention. He quickly walked towards the source of the sound and found that in the open space behind the dormitory building, Matsuda Jinpei and Furuya Rei, both wearing police uniforms, were assuming a boxer's defensive stance.
Fujiwara Yu, whose first reaction was not to fight, tilted his head, mistakenly thinking that the two of them were planning to practice boxing in the middle of the night without telling anyone, trying to secretly surprise everyone in the next actual training.
"If you want to practice fighting, take me with you?"
The sudden voice startled both of them. Seeing Fujiwara Yuu leaning leisurely against the cherry tree trunk, Matsuda Jinpei stared at him speechlessly and said:
"Fuji, which eye of yours saw that we were practicing martial arts? Do you understand fighting?"
"I don't want to fight with him. He's the one who always comes to provoke me again and again." Fūya Rei's mouth corners turned down, revealing his signature cat mouth, and he said in a dissatisfied tone.
"Tsk, it's your stubborn personality that I don't like." Matsuda Jinpei tilted his head and looked at the blond and dark-skinned man in front of him. He smiled as if he had thought of something and said, "Fuji, you be the referee!"
Fujiwara Yuu didn't expect that the two of them were so bored that they would fight in the middle of the night. He yawned lazily. He wanted to stop the fight, but he felt that friendship between boys could be established through a fight... After all, he and Matsuda had a "no acquaintance, no fight" relationship.
Who knows, maybe these two people will become friends after this fight.
Swallowing the words of refusal that came to his lips, Fujiwara Yu crossed his arms and said:
"Okay, I'll be the referee, you can start now."
Fujiwara Yu's eyes fell on the two of them. To be honest, there was no boxing training course in the school, but fighting techniques all had similarities. He was quite curious about which of the two had a higher fighting level.
After hearing the word "start", Furiya Rei took the initiative and pushed the ground to close the distance between the two. At the same time, he used his belt to shoulder to punch a beautiful straight punch, and hit Matsuda Jinpei's left cheek with a hard punch.
Hiss—it looks so painful.
Fujiwara Yuu subconsciously rubbed his left cheek. Why did he hit someone in the face? Was he afraid that Instructor Onizuka wouldn't be able to tell that they had fought tomorrow?
Oh, it looks like I’ll be scolded again tomorrow.
"Is this all you can do? Take my punch!"
It was obvious that Jinpei Matsuda had worked hard on boxing. He dodged Furiya's right uppercut with a quick move, and at the same time, retaliated with a straight punch that hit Furiya's left cheek.
Referee Fujiwara Yu stared with half-moon eyes and felt his gums ache just by watching. He touched his chin and thought about whether he should intervene, but when he thought that he might be in a mixed doubles match, he chose to give up the idea of stopping it.
"Haha... I never thought... there is actually someone who can stand upright after taking my punch." Fūya Rei raised his hand to wipe away the blood from the corner of his mouth, his eyes sparkling.
Matsuda Jinpei hadn't expected that this bookworm could actually rival him in boxing. He curled his lips, finding the stubborn Unit-1 quite amusing. He spat out a mouthful of blood foam and shouted,
"Hey! I should be the one saying this... you golden-haired bastard!!"
