After hearing what Sano Taichi said, Fujiwara Yu and Hagiwara Kenji, who were still standing there in a daze, rushed to the dormitory building where the instructors lived as fast as they could. They never thought that the tragedy would actually happen.
And the person who died was actually the instructor.
When Onizuka Hachizo saw his two students rushing out the door, he was about to follow them when the landline phone on the table rang. After picking up the phone and hearing the voice on the other end, he quickly showed a respectful expression.
"What? You want me to stay out of this case? Um... okay, I get it."
After hanging up the phone, Onizuka Yazo was puzzled as to why the higher-ups were paying so much attention to Fujiwara Yu. Did this guy have some background? Could he be the illegitimate child of some high-ranking official?
He shook his head and felt that his idea was a bit too outrageous. This kind of plot that only appeared in 8 o'clock soap operas should not happen to him.
After opening the drawer and taking out the scene trace investigation box, Onizuka Hachizo hurried to the instructors' dormitory building. You know, the only instructor on duty today besides him was Nakatani Shuhei, so the murderer must be the student and the guard. Thinking of this, his pace quickened. He didn't want the murderer to really be a student.
Fujiwara Yuu, who had already arrived at the scene, reached out to stop Sano Taiichi, who was trying to rush into the crime scene. He frowned and explained:
"If you rush in now, you'll only leave your footprints and fingerprints. When the instructor comes to investigate, they'll find all the evidence that it's you. You don't want to be wrongly accused and left with no way to defend yourself, do you?"
After hearing this, Sano Taiichi gradually calmed down. He calmed himself down and asked:
"So what should we do now? Wait for the instructor to come?"
"Well, we're just police academy students. We haven't even got the police handbook yet." Hagiwara Kenji was also the calm type. He used his clothes to pad his hands and pushed the door open. The smell that hit him in the face made him cover his mouth and nose, and his voice sounded a little muffled: "What is this smell? It smells so bad."
"Actually, the smell is not very strong anymore. It was even stronger when I came in just now!" Sano Tai explained, waving his hands in front of him twice.
Fujiwara Yu wrinkled his nose, recognizing the smell of rotten eggs. He looked at Sano Taiichi and asked:
"Sano, you saw Instructor Nakatani's body, right? Did you notice any fatal injuries? We can't go in right now, but can you describe what you saw?"
Sano Taiichi held his chin and tried to recall the scene that frightened him so much that he fell. He said in a low voice:
"I mentioned earlier that the instructor asked me to buy some fruit. When I got here, I called out inside, but got no response. When I was about to knock on the door, I realized it wasn't completely closed.
Then I felt something was wrong, and thinking it was not good to leave the fruit on the floor, I pushed the door open and went in. As soon as I entered, I smelled a bad odor. I followed the smell inside and saw the instructor lying outside the bathtub, not breathing.
Fujiwara Yuu keenly noticed two strange things and couldn't help but ask:
"Sano, did you check if the instructor was injured?"
Sano Taiichi shook his head in shame and whispered:
"I'm sorry. I panicked when I saw the instructor's body. I was afraid that everyone would think I was the murderer, so I ran out of the room in a hurry. It wasn't until I ran out of the dormitory building that I felt I had to tell the other instructors, so I went to find Instructor Onizuka who was on duty."
"You've done very well, don't feel guilty." Hagiwara Kenji comforted with a smile.
Fujiwara Yu was half leaning against the wall, thinking. According to his analysis, the instructor's death was probably caused by poisoning, and the most common foul-smelling gas that accompanied the smell of rotten eggs was hydrogen sulfide.
He suddenly remembered the two bottles of toilet cleaner that were lost. If that method was used, a high concentration of hydrogen sulfide could indeed be quickly formed, but it also had to be in a closed space. Otherwise, why didn't Instructor Nakatani run away after sensing the smell?
There are only two possibilities left. The first is that Taiichi Sano lied and concealed the fact that the scene was supposed to be a secret room. The second is that the murderer was bold enough to stand outside the door and witness the instructor's death, then unlocked the door and left the scene so that the body could be discovered as soon as possible.
To verify which one it is, we can only wait for the police to conduct an on-site investigation.
However, what Fujiwara Yu did not expect was that Onizuka Hachizo came to everyone with a scene trace investigation box and handed the box directly to him, which made him stunned for a moment.
"Instructor Onizuka, do you want me to help investigate the scene?" Fujiwara Yu asked his question directly. He didn't quite understand why the instructor wanted to give him the opportunity to investigate the scene. You know, this was a real case.
"I have already contacted the forensic department by phone. Before they arrive, you and Hagiwara will conduct an on-site investigation. Just treat it as a simulation drill, but you must take it seriously, understand?" Onizuka Yazo said seriously, his hands on his waist.
The two people who were asked to participate in this drill couldn't help but look at each other, and they saw the confidence in each other's eyes. After quickly saluting the instructor, they put on the hoods, gloves and shoe covers very skillfully, and only walked towards the crime scene after confirming that there was no problem.
"Instructor, is there anything I can do?" asked Taiichi Sano.
Yazo Onitsuka knew that there were no surveillance cameras in the corridors of the instructors' dormitory, but there was a surveillance device at the door of the first floor of the dormitory building. He threw out his instructor ID and instructed:
"Go to the first floor and find the police officer on duty. Ask him to retrieve the surveillance footage from that night and gather everyone who entered or left the dormitory."
