Chapter 40 I Never Owe You Anything
Li Beibei wasn't one to be frightened. She didn't take Jiang Wanying's words seriously. She threatened, "Jiang Wanying, you keep trying to snatch everything from me. This time, I'm definitely not going to give it to you!"
As soon as the words fell, there was a rumbling sound of thunder in the air.
"ah!"
Li Beibei was so scared that she covered her ears and cried out in fear.
The system was stunned: [Have you ever had a blessing? ]
Jiang Wanying suppressed a laugh: "Frog fun! I'm so lucky that even God is on my side! I just want to know who else is there!"
System: […6]
Li Wei has always had a high sense of humor, but when she saw Li Beibei's cowardly look, she held her stomach and laughed so hard.
Thunder roared, as if it had colluded with Jiang Wanying to deliberately scare Li Beibei.
When Li Beibei heard Li Wei's mocking voice, she slowly opened her eyes and ran under the eaves.
Seeing the two women laughing at her in the rain, she stared at them with resentful eyes, her pupils seemed to be about to burst out, looking hideous and terrifying.
Jiang Wanying shrugged and gave her an innocent expression.
Li Beibei stamped her feet in anger. Perhaps because she was still frightened or because she was really afraid of Jiang Wanying, she gave them a look and ran towards the hospital without looking back.
"You said she's going to see Brother Xi right now. I wonder if Brother Xi will really be fooled by her again?" Li Wei was full of worry. "Why don't we go back and take a look?"
Jiang Wanying held her back, "No need. Although Liu Xi likes her very much, he has priorities. He's not so cold-blooded as to ignore his father."
"That's right! Then Li Beibei will have a lot to cry about."
-
In the hospital, Jiang Huaichuan poured Liu Xi a cup of hot tea. "Don't worry, I just heard about your father's situation. Maybe he misdiagnosed him. I'll call my uncle and ask him about it."
Liu Xi's hands were shaking as he held the enamel cup. He didn't know whether he was asking Jiang Huaichuan or himself, "Is he really sick?"
Jiang Huaichuan had never seen him in this state before. Originally, he was so angry that he wanted to beat him up, but now his anger had almost subsided, and all that was left was heartache for Liu Xi.
"Don't think too much about it now. Just take the spot. When you're notified to go to school, you can leave the village. Or if you want to go home to see your father first, that's fine too. I'll have my uncle talk to the village chief. He won't refuse."
"Go home..." Liu Xi muttered these two words silently. Does he really have a home?
"What's the use of going back? He said a long time ago that he doesn't want to see me and wishes he didn't have me as his son." Liu Xi recalled every detail of the past and laughed bitterly. His face looked uglier than crying.
"Liu Xi! Don't be fooled by them!" Li Beibei rushed in in the rain, just in time to hear what Liu Xi said, and interrupted excitedly, "If your father really loved you, has he ever written you a letter since you went to the countryside for so long?"
"You still miss this kind of father? Isn't the only son he sees as your stepmother's younger brother?"
Li Beibei and he were classmates. They knew a little about each other's family situation and probably had similar experiences and encounters, so Liu Xi felt that they were the most sympathetic people in the world.
She thought that Jiang Huaichuan and the others were using Liu Xi's father's concern for him to go home as a pretext to give the spot to Jiang Wanying. After all, it was so difficult for them, the educated youth, to ask for leave to go home on their own.
Liu Xi hung his head, not like before at all. As soon as he saw Li Beibei appear, his eyes were filled with her, and no one else could be seen.
"Stop talking."
There was a hint of impatience in his tone. Li Beibei looked at him in surprise. Is this still the Liu Xi who used to surround her everywhere and only have eyes for her?
