Chapter 9: Places at the Agricultural and Military University
“I want to go to college.”
Jiang Huaichuan was shocked. After all, Jiang Wanying had never been interested in studying since she was a child. She always ranked last in the exams. His uncle was often called to school by the teacher because of her poor grades.
"Yingying, I know you want to find something to do, but there's no need for us to suffer the hardship of studying!"
Jiang Huaichuan thought that Jiang Wanying no longer had to revolve around Fang Jiaxing because of her broken heart, and he fully supported her wanting to find something to do, but she had to give up the hardship of studying.
There is no school in the village, so the only way to go to school is to go to E'nan Middle School in the city.
Others took the teacher's words as imperial decrees, but Jiang Wanying didn't. She went straight to arguing with the teacher...
So much so that all the teachers at E'nan Middle School were afraid of her.
"I'm determined to endure this hardship!"
Jiang Wanying stood up, walked out of the kitchen, ran to the east wing, and found a few textbooks in a pile of miscellaneous items that had not been thrown away by the original little fool.
Even though she was a top student, she really had no idea what was on the college entrance examination in the 1970s. In order to avoid a battle without preparation, Jiang Wanying decided to find out first.
Jiang Huaichuan stood at the door and saw the girl sitting at the table flipping through a book. His jaw dropped in shock.
He seemed to have thought of something and ran out of the Jiang family in a panic.
At noon, Xu Hongping came from the brigade to make lunch. As soon as she entered the kitchen, she saw Jiang Wanying sitting by the fire, warming herself with a book in her hands. "Yingying, why are you reading?"
"Aunt, you're here." Jiang Wanying put down the book in her hand, "I'm reading an English book."
"Oh, didn't you say before that English is not something that people learn? Why are you interested in it again now? I heard from Huaichuan that you want to go to college? Are you serious?" Xu Hongping said as she took down the apron hanging on the wall and tied it on.
Jiang Wanying nodded and said, "Yes, it's not difficult to learn." In those days, materials were scarce, and she had not yet figured out how to make money, so she simply found something to do.
Xu Hongping heated up the leftover dishes from yesterday's banquet, and soon the meal began. Jiang Dongfang also came over with a hoe in hand.
Jiang Wanying carried the dishes to the main hall. Xu Hongping pulled Jiang Dongfang into the kitchen and whispered, "Didn't you say a few days ago that there was a spot for the Agricultural and Military University in our village? Has it been decided yet?"
Jiang Dongfang shook his head. "Not yet. There are only a few children of school-age children in the village. The village chief said he would think about it."
"Then you go talk to the village chief and ask him to give this spot to our Yingying." Xu Hongping was really thinking about it. She had a few chickens at home. She would send one to the village chief's house and give him a few bottles of osmanthus wine.
"Give it to Yingying? Doesn't she hate going to school the most? Wife, I know you love Yingying, but don't make things difficult for her. If she goes to the Agricultural and Military University and starts quarreling with the teachers again, we are so far away from her and she will suffer so much!"
When Jiang Dongfang thought about the mess he had to clean up at school over the years, his head started to hurt again.
In his eyes, he never thought about how great Jiang Wanying would be in the future. As long as she could live a stable life and be happy every day, that would be enough.
Xu Hongping disapproved of him. "Do you really want to keep Yingying by our side forever? Can we protect her forever? While she's still young, we should let her go out and explore the world. I think this child has really learned a lot after what she's been through."
"You might not know this, but when I got here this afternoon, I saw her sitting there reading. Huaichuan came to me and told me that Yingying told him she wanted to go to college. I thought this was a good sign. It would save her from staying in the village and constantly thinking about her relationship with Fang Jiaxing. Wouldn't that be annoying?"
