Chapter 71: Walking on the Snow in Winter "Then touch me and see if it hurts..."
Snowflakes fell on the neighbors' hair, and some even got into their necks, making rustling sounds.
But no one wanted to go back to the shop to avoid the snow, and no one even wanted to open an oil-paper umbrella, for fear that it would block the view in front of them.
Qin pushed Hao forward and said with a forced smile, "Hurry up, go kowtow to your aunt and uncle."
She had heard of Lu Lan, from dinners during festivals. After all, Jiangnan Prefecture had many waterways, connected to the Yangtze River. Every prefecture had an Inspector General, a position not of high rank, but only one person was granted the title of "Red Crown." Recently, after arriving in Pingjiang Prefecture, she'd heard a few words from the vendors at Changmen Wharf, and she'd remembered the story.
The guys at Changmen Wharf talked most about how Lord Lu "chopped up bandits with a knife" and "torn up pirates with his bare hands"... They especially loved to describe the bloody scenes vividly, accompanied by their superb ventriloquism skills, which they had learned from nowhere, with the sounds of "swish", "shuala", and "pu"...
It makes people know that Lord Lu kills without blinking an eye.
"Um?"
Lu Lan raised an eyebrow.
Qin's body stiffened, and the hand she was holding on Hao'er loosened a little. The flattering smile on her face froze instantly, and she stammered, "Sir, this Hao'er is still young, we are the elders..."
"elder?"
Lu Lan interrupted her, "When you were trying to frame her and force her to return to Jiangning Mansion, why didn't you remember that you were the elder?"
Zhan Wenxing immediately took a few steps forward, glancing solemnly at Wei Lao San and Qin Shi. "My Lord is referring to you. Please come in."
Wei Laosan felt his throat tighten and was soon pushed in front of Wang Qiulan. He opened his mouth several times but could only manage a few words, "Aunt, Aunt... Happy New Year."
Qin also nodded, her voice weak as she repeated the words.
"Weren't you very talkative just now? Your tongue is so dirty that the auspicious words you want to say won't sound good. Wash their mouths."
"yes!"
Jing Liulang and two other men strode forward, grabbed Wei Laosan by the collar, yanked Qin's arm, and, along the way, grabbed Hao Ge'er. In less than half an incense stick of time, Jing Liulang had dragged the three limp men back. Wei Laosan and Qin's mouths were covered in muddy soup.
“This smell.”
Shopkeeper Liu came closest, smelling something familiar. He quickly exclaimed, "Ouch!" and said to Zhao Xiangping beside him, "This is Old Qian's soup noodle swill."
Lu Lan didn't say anything else. Zhan Wenxing understood what he meant and said coldly, "Please speak carefully and loudly. It's New Year's Day, so please be cheerful when you wish someone a happy new year. The master wants you to smile."
As soon as Wei Laosan's knees touched the snow, he hurriedly looked up at Wang Qiulan, forced a smile, and shouted at the top of his voice, "Happy New Year, Auntie! I wish you good health in the new year, good eyesight and hearing, and that you can eat two big bowls of rice every day!"
Qin also came forward and said, "I wish you good fortune in the new year, like the snow piled high in front of Yunlaixiang's door, wearing gold and silver, and having children and grandchildren around your knees!"
She pressed Hao Ge'er's head and let the child speak, "I wish Auntie a long life and happiness every day!"
Wei Fuqiu and Wei Fuling had already come out of Zhaoji Delicatessen, holding hands and guarding Wei Jinyun and Wang Qiulan. These people deliberately avoided the three sisters.
Lu Lan said in a deep voice, "Kowtow to Shopkeeper Wei and the two young ladies."
Wei Lao San suddenly raised his head, stretched his neck and shouted, "I'm going to sue you! Our dynasty governs the world with benevolence, righteousness, and filial piety, and you actually want us to kowtow to a little girl!"
They could still endure kowtow to this little girl Yun, but they were already nearly forty years old, how could they kowtow to a seven-year-old child!
"Oh, you dare not say such things."
Zhan Wenxing's voice was low but every word was clear. "You slandered our Li Dajun in public, saying unfounded and immoral things. This is like accusing your superior, and you deserve forty lashes."
My elder brother had chosen to be a lawyer, and when he was memorizing these things at home, he was influenced by them and remembered a lot of them.
Wei Laosan's face turned pale when he saw Li Ji coming from the street corner with the settlement documents.
He handed the document to Wei Jinyun and looked at Lu Lan, "The settlement has been completed. The four members of the Wei family have been registered in Pingjiang Prefecture and are under the jurisdiction of our household registration office."
"She, her grandmother, and her sisters have already settled in Pingjiang Prefecture. From now on, they will be registered citizens of Pingjiang Prefecture. Your Wei family has no right to control them."
Lu Lan's eyes were filled with coldness. "I know what you're planning. You're just trying to take advantage of the fact that she's not even a year old yet, and take her home with you to marry her off, so that this shop will fall into your hands."
Qin lay in the snow, trembling, "Sir, the prefect, don't you care that you're bullying outsiders in the street? I'm going to sue you—I'm going to the government office to sue you for abusing your power!"
Lu Lan lowered his eyes to look at her, "Well, please."
He continued, "Knock."
Zhan Wenxing spoke at the right time, "Now, kowtow to Shopkeeper Wei and the two young ladies. If you dawdle any longer, wash your mouth."
Jing Liulang and two other men stepped forward.
Wei Lao San instantly became intimidated and tightly grabbed Qin who was about to speak, "Boss Wei, two young ladies, happy new year! I wish, I wish Boss Wei a prosperous business and two young ladies everything goes well..."
Qin staggered as she was dragged along. Looking at Jing Liulang's cold and hard face, she didn't dare to shout anymore. She echoed in a hoarse voice, "I wish Shopkeeper Wei a prosperous life. And two, two young ladies too."
Haoge kowtowed the most smoothly, "Happy New Year to my aunt, Happy New Year to my sister."
Lu Lan turned around, looked at Wei Jinyun, and said softly, "It's okay."
"You just came back and you're already concerned about these things. Actually, I can handle it myself."
Wei Jinyun didn't want to look at the three people on the ground, and kept staring at Lu Lan's waist.
The armor was in good condition, except that the gauze bandage was exposed.
Wei Jinyun had long anticipated the Wei family coming back for her. After all, they hadn't even contacted their local community when they returned to Pingjiang Prefecture. Once their supposed child's marriage and schooling were settled, they'd inevitably come knocking.
I didn't expect that he would come to me during the Chinese New Year.
She had discussed it with Gu Xiang and inquired with Lawyer Zhan, and even decided which thugs to hire.
When the person comes, beat him up first.
The Wei family was like leeches, and she no longer had any kinship with them. She would beat them until they were convinced. She knew for sure they wouldn't dare to report to the authorities, but if they were truly stubborn and wanted to sue her, she would hire lawyers, lots of them, the best.
She is not someone to be bullied.
"I'm in charge."
As soon as Lu Lan finished speaking, he suddenly tilted his head and couldn't help but yawning, "I'm sleepy."
"To Yunlaixiang?"
Lu Lan nodded.
"Come in, it's cold outside."
The snow fell even harder. After seeing this scene, the neighbors all retreated into their shops, only looking out the door and whispering to each other.
There were hurried footsteps in the snow. Wan Wu, wearing a cloak, led four burly men and ran over, shouting from a distance, "Manager Wei! I'm coming! I'm coming!"
Wei Jinyun turned around and shook his head helplessly, "I came too late and didn't even get to drink the soup."
Wan Wu looked at Lu Lan and chuckled twice, "Oh, Lord Lu got there first. I will definitely run faster next time."
But the sturdy man still stood in front of Wei Lao San and the other two. The four of them looked down on them, and Wan Wu also looked down on them.
"I have a crush on her, but I have never crossed the line."
Li Ji looked at Lu Lan's back as he walked towards Yun Lai Xiang and said lightly, "Sir Lu, can I borrow your adjutant?"
"Please."
Zhan Wenxing bowed respectfully to Li Ji, "Master Li has given orders."
Li Ji lowered his eyes to glance at the three Wei brothers still lying in the snow, and said in a cold and hard tone, "Just now, the superior officer was assigned to disturb the innocent people. According to the law, he should be flogged forty times."
Wei Lao San immediately cried out, "Master Li, please spare our lives! We will never dare to do it again!
Qin also rushed forward, but was kicked away by Jing Liulang.
Zhan Wenxing called two of his men and pinned Wei Lao San and Qin in the snow.
Jing Liulang picked up Hao Ge'er, who was cowering on the side, and said coldly, "Stay still. If you make trouble again, I won't just watch."
Hao Ge'er was so frightened that he stopped crying instantly and just dared to tremble in his hands.
"I've already paid for this, so I can't let people come here for nothing."
Wan Wu walked up to Zhan Wenxing and volunteered, "Adjutant Zhan, can we let these guys try?"
"Here you go."
Zhan Wenxing handed over the staff, "I'm exhausted from rushing all the way here, and my hands are very cold."
He bowed to Li Ji and asked, "Sir Li, this is from Shopkeeper Wei."
Li Ji nodded in agreement.
After forty blows, the two men no longer had any of their previous arrogance.
Li Ji took his son's hand and returned to the mansion. "Send someone to watch them board the ship and tell them to get out of Pingjiang Prefecture. If they dare to cause trouble again, they will be imprisoned directly."
Although the snow was falling heavily, he could clearly see the look she gave Lu Lan.
Auspicious snow indicates a good harvest.
It’s time for him and Cheng Ge’er to go home for the New Year.
Wei Lao San was carried into the cabin by the people from the Inspection Office. The pain from his butt made him grimace.
After the patrol officers disembarked and the boat left Changmen Wharf, he gritted his teeth and spoke, "Who knew that Wei Jinyun would hook up with Lu Lan... If I had known she had such a backer, why would I have come here to get beaten?"
Qin collapsed on the side, thinking of her newly married eldest daughter-in-law, and the more she thought about it, the more regretful she became.
Tears streamed down her face. "I told you not to come, but you refused to listen, saying you couldn't control me until I got married. Now what? Not only will I get a beating, but my wife will have something to say when I get home. She might even try to get Dalang to separate from me. Our family is already in turmoil, and now it's even more chaotic."
Her eldest son had just found a wife in the summer. The matchmaker had flattered her, saying that she was so virtuous, obedient and sensible that you couldn't find one in the whole village.
After welcoming her in with drums and gongs, she admonished her for a few days, asking her to observe the rules of being a daughter-in-law. Unexpectedly, she didn't know what words she had whispered to Dalang, so that he would protect her like this and even forgo the daily greetings.
In just one month of summer, she ate twelve watermelons.
Now that she is pregnant, it's even more outrageous. Not only does she talk about dividing the family every day, but she also wants to slaughter chickens and pigs and eat mutton every few days. He really thinks her family is some kind of noble family.
The boat shook, and Wei Lao San gasped in pain, but he still said stubbornly, "Why are you crying? Didn't you want to rob her shop? Now you blame it all on me."
"I can't even cry? You're going to make me angry like that vixen."
Qin suddenly sat up, forgetting the pain, and pointed at him and cursed, "Who was it that said that the Wei family's things should belong to us, and that she, Wei Jinyun, had to subsidize the Wei family just because she earned money?"
The two men argued furiously in the rocking cabin, snow falling as the boat slowly sailed out of Pingjiang Prefecture. This time, not only did they gain nothing, but they were beaten up instead.
In Yunlaixiang, Wei Fuling held Wang Qiulan's hand, and Wei Fuqiu held a small wooden box, carefully leading them to the backyard.
When they reached the corridor, Wei Fuqiu gently opened the wooden box. Inside was a brand new tablet with her grandfather's name engraved on it in bright paint.
The moment Wang Qiulan caught a glimpse of the tablet, her eyes suddenly turned red.
Wei Fuqiu quickly held her arm and whispered, "Grandma, don't cry. Actually, I asked someone to make a new tablet for Grandpa a long time ago, but I haven't taken it out yet because I'm afraid you'll see it and remember the sad things."
Wei Fuling also came over and hugged Wang Qiulan's arm. "Yes, grandma, it doesn't matter if grandpa's tablet is in the Wei family ancestral hall. We remember grandpa in our hearts and think about him often."
"Grandma, let's put Grandpa's tablet together with our parents'. Grandpa loved you the most. He knows that you brought us back to Pingjiang Prefecture, returned to our roots, and lived a good life. He must be very happy in heaven."
Wei Fuqiu handed the wooden box to Wang Qiulan.
Wang Qiulan couldn't hold back any longer and her tears fell on the tablet.
She reached out and hugged her two granddaughters tightly in her arms, choking with sobs, "Okay... put them together, all together... We are a family, and we will never be separated again..."
Now, they are really going home.
Lu Lan sat in front of the counter of Yunlaixiang, holding a porcelain bowl in his hand. The hot steam from the red bean porridge made the tiredness in his eyes fade a little.
Several men from the Inspection Office sat around the table, each holding a bowl and eating their warm food.
Lu Lan looked up at Wei Jinyun, who was calculating accounts beside him, and said, "I've only been away for a few days, and Zhang's shop next door has already become your territory."
"That's right, I'm a professional in business."
Wei Jinyun replied as she sat beside him. But she quickly lowered her gaze to his waist, her brows slightly furrowed. "Does the wound on your waist hurt?"
“It hurts.”
Lu Lan held the spoon and looked at her, her eyelashes trembling slightly.
Zhan Wenxing, not far away, nearly spit out the red bean porridge he had just drunk. He suddenly lowered his head and coughed, his face flushing red. Jing Liulang wasn't much better either. He coughed twice and looked out the window at the heavy snow.
Chang Siyan stood beside Gu Xiang, holding her shoulders with both hands, "Sister Xiang, I'm scared to death."
Gu Xiang had a look on his face as if he saw through the essence of everything in the world. "Just get used to it, and get to work."
When Wei Jinyun heard him say that he was in pain, his brows furrowed even more. "Then I'll call a doctor for you right away. Go to the one I often go to. The doctor is good and speaks gently."
Lu Lan shook her head and said, "No, I have something to do today."
Wei Jinyun was stunned for a moment, "You just came back, what else do you have to do?"
Lu Lan raised her eyes to look at her, and said softly, "Well, can you go with me?"
Wei Jinyun let out an "Ah" and didn't react.
Lu Lan suppressed her smile and said seriously, "Please, Manager Wei, prepare some exquisite snacks for me. Seven or eight pieces, no duplicates. I'd also like to ask you to prepare a pot of Aunt Wang's winter wine and put it in a lunch box. Everything will be charged to my Peony card."
"Got it! Honorable Peony Card member, Inspector Lu. Please wait a moment, I will go get you some snacks and the winter wine right away!" Wei Jinyun said and turned to walk towards the backyard.
Zhan Wenxing and Jing Liulang looked at each other, lowered their heads and ate their porridge silently, pretending that they were two invisible stone statues.
When Wei Jinyun came out carrying a food box containing snacks and winter-wine, Lu Lan had already fallen asleep in the rattan chair behind the screen.
Although the armor was cold and hard, his long eyelashes cast a light shadow under his eyes. He had shed his usual coldness and showed a rare gentleness.
Wei Jinyun walked lightly to Zhan Wenxing's side and asked, "How did he get injured? Didn't they say that most of the pirates were killed long ago? With Lu Lan's skills, how could he still be injured?"
Zhan Wenxing quickly replied, "Don't worry, Manager Wei. This isn't just any pirate. It's a previously escaped fish that slipped through the net and hid in the Yangtze River for three or four years. It was only recently that its tracks were revealed. Lord Lu chased it for several days and finally brought it to justice."
Wei Jinyun frowned and asked, "What about the injury on his waist..."
Zhan Wenxing touched his nose, his eyes drifting as he spoke vaguely, "As for Lord Lu's waist injury... well, I can't really explain it. The situation was chaotic at the time, so I didn't see the details clearly. Manager Wei, you should wait until Lord Lu wakes up and ask him yourself."
After saying that, he quickly lowered his head and ate his porridge in silence.
Wei Jinyun glanced at the person sleeping soundly in the rattan chair, gently placed the food box on the counter next to him, and took a thick cloak and carefully covered him with it.
There were many customers coming in and out of Yunlaixiang, some picking snacks, some taking a break to drink hot tea, and some preparing New Year's goods, but they all tacitly lowered their footsteps. Even the children who were usually noisy were held down in their seats by their parents, biting their snacks obediently and not saying a word.
The news on the street had spread quickly, and everyone knew that Lord Lu had returned. Every year before the New Year, he would go to the Yangtze River to patrol and ensure that everyone had a good year.
Someone secretly glanced at the screen and whispered to his companion, "I heard that Lord Lu was injured again. He really worked hard to ensure the peace of our Pingjiang Prefecture's waterways. I wonder how many old injuries Lord Lu has on his body."
The other person nodded quickly, "That's right. The stability of the river in recent years is all thanks to Lord Lu's watchful eye. Alas, he is actually only eighteen years old. The whole Pingjiang Prefecture knows his feelings, only..."
Before they could finish their words, the person next to them gently touched their arms. They both shut up immediately, but looked tacitly at Wei Jinyun who was calculating on the abacus behind the counter.
Wei Jinyun was counting the New Year's bills, and only occasionally looked up at the rattan chair. Seeing Lu Lan sleeping soundly, a smile appeared on his lips.
She just thought he was tired on the way back, but she didn't know that Man Yunlaixiang could see his feelings, but she was the only one who couldn't see it clearly because she was still standing in the heavy snow.
About half an hour later, Lu Lan's eyelashes trembled and she slowly opened her eyes.
His voice still had the tiredness of having just woken up, and he asked in a hoarse voice, "How long have you been watching?"
Wei Jinyun's hand was still hanging in the air when he was caught on the spot.
"How badly are you injured? Let's go see a doctor later."
She couldn't decide whether to put her hand down or not.
Lu Lan didn't respond, but just turned slightly to reveal the white cloth around her waist in front of her, "Then touch me, I want to see if it hurts."
He asked her to touch him, not her own choice.
Wei Jinyun obediently touched the cloth gently, but felt no lumps or blood.
She moved her fingers left and right, asking, "Does it hurt here? What about this part?"
"I'm wearing light armor, so it seems unnoticeable."
Wei Jinyun looked up and glared at him, then reached out and tugged at the straps of his armor. "Then take off your armor. You've already returned to Pingjiang Prefecture, so why are you still wearing this? Take it off and I'll show you."
As soon as these words were spoken, the tea that Zhan Wenxing, who was not far away, had just drunk sprayed onto Jing Liulang's face with a "puff".
Lu Lan put his hand on the strap of the armor, "This is not good, Manager Wei."
Wei Jinyun put down the laces and said, "Then I won't show it to you."
Lu Lan stood up, took clothes from his men, and walked to the backyard skillfully. "I'll go take off my armor, and we'll go out."
But after a moment, he changed into a moon-white suit that he seldom wore. It was less cold and hard than the armor and more gentle.
He walked up to Wei Jinyun and picked up the food box she had prepared. "Can you go with me? I want to take you there."
Wei Jinyun asked, "Where are you going?"
"An old friend's place."
Lu Lan didn't elaborate, just looked at her.
Before Wei Jinyun could hesitate, Wei Fuling and Wei Fuqiu pushed her towards the door without saying anything, "Sister, go quickly! We'll help you watch the shop!"
Wei Fuqiu even solemnly reminded him, "Remember to buy us some fried pork chops from Wang Ji on Shantang Street!"
Snow flakes fell gently, sticking to the red lanterns hanging on the street.
The street in front of Tianqing Temple was already filled with New Year's goods stalls. The bamboo sticks selling sugar paintings were spinning with shiny dragon shapes, and the aroma of the roasted nuts shop mixed with the smell of snow drifted far away.
The vendor, wearing a thick coat, called out, "Glazed chestnuts—freshly fried glazed chestnuts!"
Young women in cloaks held oil-paper umbrellas, gathering in groups of three or five. Children, wrapped up like chubby dumplings, chased each other in the snow, leaving a trail of crooked footprints. On the corner stood a snowman, wearing a red paper hat and smiling broadly.
The two walked all the way to Shantang Street. In the river on Shantang Street, black-sailed boats covered in snow swayed slowly, and the bacon and salted fish hanging on the boats swayed with them.
Snow fell from the oil-paper umbrella. Lu Lan held the lunch box in one hand and the umbrella handle in the other, tilting most of the umbrella toward Wei Jinyun. She was wrapped in a white cape, walking side by side with his black cloak in the crowd.
As we walked across the arch bridge, the vendor selling sugar balls beside the bridge called out clearly, "Sugar balls—hawthorn, grape, coated with three layers of sugar!"
Lu Lan stopped and bought a string of shiny hawthorn candy balls and handed them to her.
Wei Jinyun thanked him, took a bite, and turned to smile at Lu Lan, "So sweet, Lu Lan."
Lu Lan didn't look at the candy ball, but only looked at her, her voice as soft as falling snow, "Mm, so sweet."
The two walked to a place not far from Changmen. The noise gradually faded and the snow fell even more quietly.
After walking a few more steps, a solitary grave appeared behind a grove of short pines. Snow pressed down on the green grass on the grave, but the tombstone and the surroundings were clean, and even the engravings were clear.
Lu Lan placed the food box in front of the stele and opened the lid, revealing a neatly arranged array of exquisite pastries. He then filled the porcelain cup with the winter wine he had brought with him. The wine was clear and sweet.
He squatted in front of the grave, reaching out and gently brushing the three characters "Chen Heru" on the tombstone. "Heru, I have avenged you. The one who escaped the net of that bandit gang has been brought to justice."
He looked at the faint red lanterns in the distant streets and alleys, "This year's New Year in Pingjiang Prefecture is still very good and peaceful."
Wei Jinyun stood behind him and asked softly, "Lu Lan, is he a good friend of yours?"
Lu Lan nodded. "Yes, he's a good friend who grew up with me. When I was fourteen, he and I joined the Inspection Office. One time, when we were patrolling the river, he was attacked by pirates..."
He paused, "As long as I remain in Pingjiang Prefecture, I will ensure smooth and peaceful waterways."
Lu Lan raised her hand to brush away the fresh snow that had fallen from the stele. "Guarding the peace and tranquility of the waterways in Pingjiang Prefecture is a shared wish of his and mine."
From the direction of Changmen, the shouts of vendors selling New Year goods could be faintly heard.
"He wanted to be buried here, so he could see the people of Changmen having enough food and clothing every year."
The snow was still falling, falling on the tips of his hair.
"So, I won't leave Pingjiang Prefecture."
The sun brought the warmth of summer as the young boys Lu Lan and Shen Heru walked at the Changmen Wharf.
Chen Heru bit into the ice cream and asked him vaguely, "Your father-in-law is a general. Are you going to Bianjing to be a high-ranking official in the future? The kind that wears gold and silver?"
Lu Lan raised the ice cream and spun it around in front of her eyes. "What's the point of being a high-ranking official? What about you? Don't you want to go to the border and join the army? Riding a big horse and carrying a long sword, how majestic it is."
Chen Heru stopped and clenched his fists. "I'm not going to the border. I want to stay in Pingjiang Prefecture to fight the pirates. The pirates are also very fierce. They rob boats and kill people. Many people along the river have lost their families. They are all innocent people... I want to capture them all and make sure there are no more bad guys on the river."
Another winter.
Chen Heru grabbed Lu Lan's wrist and said, "Lu Lan, let's go to the Inspection Office to sign up now. They're recruiting new soldiers. Let's go and give it a try!"
"If Grandfather knew, he would definitely blame me."
Chen Heru immediately let go of her hand, put her hands on her waist and raised an eyebrow, "Lu Lan, are you scared? Are you afraid of your grandfather scolding you, or are you afraid of suffering in the inspection office?"
The hesitation in the boy's eyes disappeared instantly, and he said in a resounding voice, "I'm not afraid. Let's go, who's afraid of who!"
The pirates were indeed vicious, and their arrow and knife wounds were painful, but they were able to save boatloads of people.
Very happy.
But when I went to the Inspection Office that year, there were two sets of footprints in the snow.
When Lu Lan looked back suddenly, he was the only one left in the snow.
Wei Jinyun squatted down and gently brushed away the fallen snow on the edge of the tombstone, her movements so gentle as if she was afraid of disturbing him.
She looked at the words on the stele and whispered, "So, they were together with Lu Lan, trying to protect the lord of Pingjiang Prefecture."
She continued, "I made these snacks. I don't know if they suit your taste. I hope you like them."
Snow fell on her cloak, and she looked up in the direction of the Changmen Gate not far away.
"Sir, look, Pingjiang Prefecture is peaceful right now. People on the street are buying New Year's goods, children are playing in the snow, and the boats on the river are sailing safely. You and Lu Lan's wishes have all come true."
Lu Lan stood beside her, watching her talking seriously to the tombstone, the melancholy in her eyes gradually filled with warmth.
The two of them didn't stay long at the grave. They bought some freshly fried pork chops and walked back chatting and laughing all the way.
As soon as we got back to Yunlaixiang, the aroma of fried pork cutlets attracted the waiters, and they were quickly divided up. The two sisters ate the cutlets, saying "Sister is the best" repeatedly.
Just as the place was bustling with activity, there was a sound of bamboo boxes colliding at the door, and the coroner came in carrying the box.
Even though he was fifty years old, his steps were still brisk. He spotted Lu Lan the moment he saw her. "Master Lu, I heard you were injured chasing the invaders. I'm here to change your dressing and bandage you."
Wei Jinyun wrapped the gift box and raised her eyes and asked, "Mr. Coroner, are you still in charge of bandaging the wound?"
Coroner Zhuang smiled and moved closer to Lu Lan. "I have multiple responsibilities! Every time the master is injured, I am the one who changes the dressing. I know how to treat his injuries."
Lu Lan replied, "No, it's just a minor injury."
"I want it!"
Without further ado, Zhuang placed the box on the table. "If there's inflammation, it could be troublesome. Please sit down quickly. The little one is very quick."
Wei Jinyun looked at him. Lu Lan had no choice but to sit down on the rattan chair. "Then hurry up."
There was a rustling sound behind the screen, and after a moment the coroner lifted the curtain and came out with a somewhat amusing and helpless expression on his face.
Wei Jinyun went over to him and asked, "You've changed so quickly?"
Coroner Zhuang nodded with a wry smile, pointed his mouth behind the screen, and walked away with the suitcase without saying anything else.
Wei Jinyun walked into the screen with full of doubts, and saw Lu Lan leaning on a rattan chair, with her moon-white gown lifted to her waist.
His exposed waistline was neat, a wasp waist formed by years of martial arts training. Clear lines of ravines were faintly visible, and only a loose piece of white cloth covered his waist.
Lu Lan raised his eyes and saw her, "How did you get in? You really are a rabbit with pericardium."
Wei Jinyun glared at him and said, "You are the idiot."
As she spoke, she caught a glimpse of a piece of white cloth that had fallen to the ground. She bent down to pick it up, and the gauze of the rattan chair slid down along his waistline.
There was only a shallow red mark, and the skin was not even broken.
"Lu Lan!"
Wei Jinyun rubbed the white cloth, "Your wound will heal on its own!"
