6. Coconut Bread

6 Coconut Bread

I'm very hungry.

Two days later.

After lunch, Gan Mei picked up her backpack, quickly left the classroom and walked towards her old place.

Before I got close, I heard the voices of several girls talking under the big tree in the corner of the campus.

The hand holding the backpack tightened, and Gan Mei thought to herself: Gao Shuai... he didn't come again.

She took a reluctant look at the familiar grassland and was about to leave when she suddenly heard the girls mention Gao Shuai's name.

Tall and handsome?

Gan Mei paused and turned around in confusion: She, did she hear it right? !

From a distance, you can vaguely see four figures sitting under a big tree.

Their conversation also reached her ears.

"Come to think of it, I remember... Gao Shuai also took a leave two months ago, but that was a long vacation of nearly half a month." The girl with glasses sighed.

"There was no other way. At that time, his uncle was sick and he had to go to the hospital to take care of his uncle." The short-haired girl took over the conversation and replied knowingly.

"His uncle? Why does his uncle need him to take care of him?" The long-haired girl was very puzzled.

"You don't know?" the girl with double braids asked in surprise.

"Know what?"

"Gao Shuai has been living with his uncle and aunt."

"Why?"

"Because..." The short-haired girl sighed and whispered, "His parents died in a car accident during the summer vacation after he graduated from elementary school."

"this……"

"and……"

"And what?"

"His uncle has two sons to support, and his aunt isn't in good health. The family situation..." the girl with glasses shook her head. "It seems they're a bit tight."

"This..." the long-haired girl sighed, "Normally, you wouldn't be able to tell."

"Of course!" the short-haired girl raised her voice. "Gao Shuai is tall and handsome, has good grades, a good personality, and is athletic. He's even won awards in competitions before... Aside from his complicated family background, there's nothing wrong with him!"

"What are you talking about!" the girl with glasses teased, "It was just a joke last time, you didn't take it seriously, did you? Haha."

"I don't think it's a joke," the girl with braids commented. "With his tall and handsome appearance, he does have the potential to attract girls."

"You still say that!" the short-haired girl said indignantly, "You're allowed to praise Leng Jun, but I'm not allowed to admire my classmates?! Gao Shuai is so handsome, isn't that a blessing for our class?"

"Yes, yes, yes!" The two looked at each other and responded with a smile.

"You guys..." The long-haired girl shook her head, "Why are we talking about this again?"

Hearing that they were discussing something else, Gan Mei took a deep breath, stopped hesitating, and quickly left.

There was a gentle breeze, and for some reason, there was always a slight chill.

Sitting in the classroom, looking at the orderly and vibrant flowers, plants and trees outside the window, my sweet heart can never calm down.

Tall and handsome...

You haven't been here for two days. Why did you ask for leave this time?

In the blink of an eye, it was Friday.

The school bell rang and Gan Mei was packing her textbooks when she heard someone calling her.

"Ganmei, the exam is next week, how are you studying?"

It’s Leng Jun.

After cleaning up the desk and neatly putting on her backpack, Gan Mei stood up and politely replied, "I still have a subject that I need to review during this break."

"That means I'm almost ready." Leng Jun smiled, "Me too. I hope to improve in this monthly exam and try to get into the top ten."

"Well, there will be a chance."

"You..." Suddenly realizing that she seemed to have packed her things, Leng Jun hurriedly said, "Sorry, did I delay your time?"

"No." Gan Mei said calmly.

"Well..." He scratched the back of his head embarrassedly, then mustered up the courage to speak, "Tomorrow is Saturday. I heard there's a new bookstore opening nearby. Do you... want to go check it out?"

Gan Mei finally looked at him intently, her beautiful eyes unable to hide her surprise.

"I..." Leng Jun was a little embarrassed.

"Sorry." Gan Mei shook her head, "I have something to do tomorrow."

"What about the day after tomorrow?" Leng Jun tried to argue, "The day after tomorrow is also fine."

"Sorry, I don't have time, please don't..."

"Haha, I'm so abrupt. Sorry, sorry." He quickly interrupted, "Next time! We'll meet again when we have the chance. Bye!"

Having said that, fearing to hear her more direct refusal, he grabbed his schoolbag and ran out of the classroom quickly.

Looking at Leng Jun's departing back, Gan Mei felt a little sad again when she recalled the topic she heard the four girls talking about two days ago.

Tall and handsome...

Does she also have palpitations towards him?

Walking out of the teaching building, the campus is still full of flowers and picturesque.

Every step you take, wherever you look, you will see different scenery, like a series of moving paintings, showing the vitality of youth everywhere.

There seemed to be some kind of attraction in her heart, and Gan Mei couldn't help it and came to the corner of the campus - the place where the two first met.

The tree was still the same big tree, but it seemed taller and more lush. The ground was still the same grass, but it seemed softer and firmer underfoot. And people...

well!

"Why are you sighing?"

A familiar and longing voice sounded behind her. Gan Mei turned around in disbelief and looked at the tall, thin and handsome white figure in front of her. She exclaimed in surprise: "Gao Shuai?! Why... are you here?"

When did you come?

Why didn't she see him?

The breeze blew on the girl's face, blowing up the loose hair on her forehead, and the hem of her school uniform fluttered slightly. Just standing there, she looked like a beautiful painting, lively and energetic.

Gao Shuai raised his lips and said, "Don't walk with your head down anymore. It's dangerous. I...will be worried too."

The boy's voice was soft and gentle, with a faint smile on his face.

Her sweet cheeks were tinged with red as she listened to him speak, her heart beating like a drum.

He cares about her.

The haze in her heart dissipated instantly, and she nodded gently and agreed with a smile.

It was her fault for lowering her head and not looking around. It was even more of a pity that she didn't see him, but - from now on, she will never do that again!

"Sweet." He called her.

She raised her eyes and looked at him seriously.

The boy asked with a smile, "Is there anything to eat?"

After a moment's hesitation, the girl immediately smiled and said, "Yes! I carry it with me every day."

The familiar pink lunch box was taken out from the backpack behind him and Gan Mei handed it to him directly.

Da Zhang accepted her intention, opened the lunch box, and raised his eyebrows slightly: "I guess...it's bread?"

"Yeah." The girl nodded. "Coconut bread is delicious. Come and try it."

Gao Shuai picked up one and started eating it quickly.

"It's sweet and soft, and really delicious." He commented truthfully after eating a piece of bread.

"Can you... finish it?" the girl asked expectantly.

"I'm very hungry. I can finish it." Then he picked up another one and started eating it quickly.

"You...eat slowly, be careful not to choke." Gan Mei said with concern.

The boy nodded, ate the second piece of bread, and said casually, "Do you also bring snacks after meals these days?"

"I brought it." The girl answered every question.

"Then..." The boy paused as he picked up the third loaf of bread, then asked, "Did you ask someone to help you eat it?"

"Well, a cute school girl who isn't afraid of gaining weight loves to eat it, so I gave her half."

"In your class..." After hesitating for a while, the boy finally asked, "What about the boys in your class? Are they also afraid of gaining weight? Or... don't like to eat?"

"Them?" Gan Mei shook her head. "I don't give it to boys."

"No?" The boy paused in his bite of the bread, slightly surprised, "I...am not a boy too?"

"You..." Gan Mei bit her lip, no longer looking at him, lowered her head, and retorted softly, "You are different, so you don't compare yourself with others."
