Chapter 43
After a serious talk with her uncle, Fengzhen decided to go to school.
In fact, she was not very resistant to going to school. It was just because she was not serious about studying in elementary school. She was always failing the exams, was called a fool by Li Hongmei, and was laughed at by her classmates. Over time, she developed a strong resistance to learning. Later, she was admitted to junior high school, but her grades were not good. She was always among the last few in the class. She felt that studying was meaningless. Although she was lucky enough to be admitted to high school, Li Hongmei didn't want her to continue going to school. She didn't think it mattered and just let her do what she wanted.
It makes no difference to her whether she goes to school or not.
Lin Youqing talked to her a lot that afternoon, and she felt as if she had a deeper understanding of life and learning. Although she still didn't know what she really wanted, at least she wanted to continue her studies.
Shortly after the high school of the county middle school started school, Lin Youqing happened to go there for business and took the opportunity to visit his niece Fengzhen.
It happened to be the morning when school was over, and the girls' dormitory of the county high school was noisy. It was inconvenient for Lin Youqing to go in, so he asked a female classmate to help call Fengzhen outside.
"How is school? Are your studies and life going well?"
"I'm fine, uncle, you don't have to worry about me."
"Here's fifty dollars. Take it and buy something for yourself."
"Uncle, you, my third aunt, and Jiang Jiang have taken good care of me. I went to your house for meals and accommodation many times during my three years in junior high school. How can I still take your money? I can't take this money."
"Be good and take it quickly."
Lin Youqing forced the fifty yuan into his niece's pocket.
After leaving the high school department of the county middle school, Lin Youqing suddenly felt like going to see his daughter again.
He hasn't been to his daughter's school since she started junior high school.
Lin Youqing arrived at Jiang Jiang's Grade 1 (1) class, but unfortunately, Jiang Jiang was not in the classroom.
The principal of the county middle school was inspecting the class with two teachers. When they saw Lin Youqing outside the classroom, the three of them were stunned for a moment before going over to greet Lin Youqing.
"Secretary Lin, why didn't you tell us you were coming? That way we could prepare in advance." The principal said as he invited Lin Youqing to his office for tea.
"I'm here for personal reasons. My daughter is in the first grade of your school. I came to see her. I hope I didn't disturb your teaching work?"
"No, no."
Feng Yin looked up and saw Lin Youqing outside the window. Her eyes rolled, she dropped the pen in her hand and ran out.
She called out crisply, "Uncle."
The principal looked at the little girl who appeared in front of him and looked at her with a friendly look, "Secretary Lin, is this your child?"
"This is my second brother's daughter, my niece Feng Yin."
"You can tell at first glance that he's a smart kid," the principal praised.
Feng Yin stuck out her tongue embarrassedly.
"Uncle, let me take you around our school. Our school is very big."
The principal said warmly, "Secretary Lin, let's go with you and introduce the school to you. It's like a work report."
Feng Yin accompanied Lin Youqing and the principal on a tour of the school.
When Feng Yin returned to the classroom, her deeds had spread throughout the grade. Everyone gathered around her excitedly, "Feng Yin, who was that person just now?"
Feng Yin raised her chin and said proudly, "That's my uncle. He's a senior cadre in the county committee. Even the principal has to report to him."
It was really an amazing thing that Fengyin had an uncle who was the deputy secretary. The classmates all looked at her with admiration and envy, as if they had gotten to know "Lin Fengyin" again.
When Jiang Jiang was walking home from school, he happened to meet the village party secretary Zhou Youquan who was talking about work with Lin Youqing. After the previous village party secretary stepped down, the original team leader Zhou Youquan was elected as the new party secretary of Dongxi Village.
Zhou Youquan was very surprised when he saw Jiang Jiang. "Jiang Jiang has grown up so much? She has become so beautiful now."
Jiang Jiang called out, "Uncle Zhou."
Then he looked at Lin Youqing, "Dad."
"Well, your mother may be back late today, and I have to go out again later. If you are hungry, you can cook something for yourself."
"I see. I'll go back to the house now."
Zhou Youquan looked at Jiang Jiang's back. Her eyes were like stars, her eyebrows were like distant mountains, and she was wearing a white dress that was simple and elegant. People no longer associated her with that ragged wild girl.
Zhou Youquan had never expected that Secretary Lin and his wife would be so nice to Jiang Jiang, who had no blood relationship with them. They treated her like their own daughter and raised her like the apple of their eye.
Jiang Jiang returned to her room, turned on the light, and took out a letter from her schoolbag.
Six years have passed, and the furnishings in her room have changed a bit. She has added a lot of miscellaneous little gadgets for girls, and also got a new desk, the height of which is more suitable for Jiang Jiang now.
There is also a small two-row bookshelf in the corner, which is filled with books that Jiang Jiang has read.
Jiang Jiang opened the letter. In addition to the letter, Zhong Xing also sent her a photo.
Jiang Jiang picked up the black-and-white photo that had fallen on the table with some surprise. The young man in the photo had black hair, a handsome face, clear eyes, and was wearing a clean shirt. It was not difficult to guess that the owner of the photo should be a college graduate.
Jiang Jiang held the photo in her palm and looked at it. She and Zhong Xing had been communicating with each other over the past few years. They would tell each other about their recent situation, although not often, sometimes once a month, sometimes every two or three months, but they had always kept in touch.
Less than a year after Zhong Xing went to work in the provincial capital, the college entrance examination was resumed. He was admitted to the Mechanical Engineering Department of Capital University. After graduating last year, he was assigned to work at the Capital Machinery Factory.
In the past few years, earth-shaking changes have taken place. The production teams have been disbanded and replaced by the household contract responsibility system. Lazy people can no longer live, while hardworking people are living better and better. Small private businesses have begun to flourish. Some have opened brick kilns, some have opened vinegar factories, some have opened small restaurants, some have set up stalls on the street to sell sugar water, and some have sold clothes. The whole country is prosperous and flourishing.
Shuanzhu and Fengzhen are both in the first year of high school at the county middle school. Tiezhu has also come to the county to attend junior high school, but he is in Class 2, not the same class as Jiang Jiang.
Last year, Jiang Jiang's uncle Tang Xiaojun and aunt Tang Hongmei finally gave birth to a baby, which made the grandparents so happy that they couldn't stop smiling for a whole month. They couldn't help but mention their grandson to everyone they met.
Jiang Jiang held up the photo, trying to connect the young man in the photo with the brother Zhong Xing in his memory.
Six years have passed, and his appearance has not changed much, but his temperament seems to have become more mature. When Jiang Jiang looked at herself again, she was afraid that even if she stood in front of Zhong Xing now, he would not recognize her.
Jiang Jiang was a little sad.
But then she thought, Zhong Xing can send the photos to her, and she can also give her own photos to Zhong Xing.
A new photo studio has opened in the county town. Several of Jiang Jiang’s classmates have been there to take photos, so she might as well go there tomorrow.
Thinking of this, Jiang Jiang was a little excited and a little nervous. She calmed down, took out a piece of letter paper from the drawer, and started to write back to Zhong Xing. She would take photos and send them together.
