Chapter 25 Cocoon Village: She is the Mountain God

Chapter 25 Cocoon Village: She is the Mountain God

What exactly is going on in Yu Naixin's head?!

Noticing the fox spirit priest staring at her skull, Yu Naixin met his gaze directly and found that his expression was exactly the same as when he was trying to peel off her skull in the simulator.

Yu Naixin gave a fake smile: "Oh? Is the High Priest tempted by my brain?"

The fox demon priest admitted with a forced smile, "Yes."

He really wanted to try it out and see what this incredibly peculiar brain was like.

Yu Naixin's expression turned extremely disgusted: "You fox, your taste is terrible! The hot pot base isn't even ready yet, why are you eating pig brains?!"

“I’m kind-hearted, I’ll teach you,” Yu Naixin earnestly imparted her experience to the fox demon priest. “The pig brains must be cooked in a spicy beef tallow broth. The ingredients for the broth must include star anise, cinnamon, cardamom, amomum villosum, white cardamom, fennel seeds, ginger, garlic, scallions, green onions, onions, bay leaves, dried chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, green Sichuan peppercorns, bell peppers, and red chili peppers. Not a single one can be missing!”

Speaking of which, the package she was about to pick up at the courier street outside the school was a pack of spicy beef tallow hot pot base from her favorite brand.

Before I even got to eat it, I was transported into this trashy dating reality show.

Fox Demon Priestess: "...???"

The fox spirit priest was completely bewildered by Yu Naixin's long list of material names that she recited without pausing.

What...what? What? What does this have to do with anything?

Seeing the fox demon priest's expression, Yu Naixin waved her hand considerately: "I know your Cocoon Village is extremely resource-poor, and you lack many things! But it doesn't matter, if the quality is lacking, we can make up for it with quantity!"

Yu Naixin watched the fox demon priest's expression, which gradually became expectant and eager: "Besides your brain, Priest, there are also your cartilage, fox head meat, so many ribs, fox leg meat, heart, tongue, fox belly, intestines, and tail. Don't they all look delicious? Put them in a spicy beef tallow hot pot, and the taste will be absolutely amazing!"

Once again, Yu Naixin's mouth rattled off the names of materials like a machine gun, but this time, the fox demon priest no longer paid attention to what Yu Naixin was saying.

Because he had already realized that Yu Naixin was deliberately teasing and provoking him.

Her complexion, which had only recently begun to improve, collapsed again. The fox demon priest really wanted to crush Yu Naixin's face, which was practically screaming "Let me have a taste!"

However, with this delay, the already limited time remaining until noon was further squeezed out, and the surrounding villagers could no longer stand still.

Even though the fox spirit priest was still at the tailor shop entrance, the old ladies responsible for dressing up the brides this month crouched down and couldn't wait to slip into the tailor shop. Each of them grabbed one of Yu Naixin's arms and hurriedly tried to pull her inside.

"Where's the bride's wedding dress?!"

"Where's the wedding dress? Is it not finished yet?!"

"Rouge and face powder! Quickly bring out the rouge and face powder! These things in the village are running out of stock, are we sure we have enough this time?!"

Yu Naixin cooperated fully as the older women pushed her into the tailor shop, without showing any sign of being forced.

Seeing that someone slipped past right in front of the fox demon priest without the priest reacting, the remaining villagers seemed greatly encouraged and busied themselves preparing for the mountain god's wedding ceremony.

Because the villagers were so densely packed, and the roads in Cocoon Village were not wide, some villagers almost bumped into the hem of the fox demon priest's robe.

The fox demon priest glanced at the blind villager with the look one would give a dead man, ignored the villager's trembling kneeling and desperately kowtowing in apology, and transformed into a gust of wind, disappearing from the chaotic place.

A moment later, the fox spirit priest appeared beside the bonfire in the center of the altar.

He wanted to see what other tricks Yu Naixin had up her sleeve.

**********

As it turns out, these ladies were indeed very professional.

In less than fifteen minutes, they had finished dressing Yu Naixin in that elaborate blood-red wedding gown and doing her simple makeup.

Finally, an older woman even took out a few hairpins. The metal surface gleamed with an old luster. Although the style was not particularly beautiful, the effect was quite good when the woman skillfully put them on Yu Naixin's head.

"These are the few decent pieces of jewelry left in the village..." the old woman muttered, "...that every bride needs to use..."

Yu Naixin didn't move, but still asked with some curiosity, "After the bride attends the ceremony, can she bring her clothes back with her?"

The old woman's answer was perfectly natural, as if she were stating some common sense that everyone knows: "After the bride gets married, all the items she wears, except for her wedding dress, will naturally be returned to the altar at noon on the second day."

After speaking, Yu Naixin had been tidied up. The older women looked at the bride of the month and their eyes flashed with amazement.

"We've seen countless brides, but none of them are as beautiful as this..."

The viewers in the live stream were also amazed by Yu Naixin's appearance at that moment.

[I knew this newcomer was incredibly good-looking, and with a little makeup, she's truly stunning!]

[Those makeup products have been passed down through generations in this village; they're obviously of extremely poor quality. These older women wouldn't even dare to use them, yet they still manage to achieve such results. The female guest's face is truly stunning.]

[Oh my god, there's even a paper figure in the corner! He was staring at the female guest, completely dumbfounded, hahaha!]

[Congratulations to the female guest on the show "Heartbeat 1000%"! You have received 9 Sweet Coins from a viewer with the ID "看看看乐子吃吃糖"!]

The paper doll boy's eyes never left Yu Naixin for even a second.

Seeing Yu Naixin wearing the wedding dress he had personally measured and sewn, the paper doll boy felt as if he were soaking in a sweet and sour jar, experiencing both bitterness and sweetness.

He suddenly had an extremely strong thought.

He didn't want Yu Naixin to marry the Mountain God.

Once the seed is planted in the soil, it begins to sprout branches and leaves wildly, growing into a towering tree that shelters all thoughts in just a few moments.

The yin energy surrounding the paper doll boy had become extremely unstable.

He wanted to rush up and snatch Yu Naixin back from these elderly women!

But in the end, the paper doll boy still didn't take any concrete action.

Because he still remembered that Yu Naixin had told him to be a good boy and listen to her.

With unwavering eyes, he watched as the older women led Yu Naixin out of the tailor shop. The paper-figure boy's features, drawn with ink, were filled with a pitiful and listless expression.

Then, he followed along, looking dejected.

The paper doll's expression is really starting to look like a puppy, a puppy that's been abandoned by its owner...

This newcomer is really good at training dogs!

Regardless of whether the female guest lives or dies, this segment of the show is definitely about to end, so I'll take advantage of the remaining time to ship this couple!

[Congratulations to the female guest on the show "Heartbeat 1000%"! You have received 8 Sweet Coins from a viewer with the ID "Eight Hundred Years of Corpse Spots That Won't Fade"!]

It's a shame we haven't reached 100% completion by now. There aren't many show guests who can turn a guest into a devoted follower; it's really sweet.

[Congratulations to the female guest on the show "Heartbeat 1000%"! You have received 15 Sweet Coins from a viewer with the ID "Dreamy Swing"!]

**********

When Yu Naixin finally arrived at the altar, there was less than a minute left before noon.

Fortunately, the village of Cocoon is not very large, and the distance from the tailor shop to the altar is not particularly far. Otherwise, Yu Naixin suspects that the old women would have carried her all the way here in order to save time.

The villagers of Cocoon Village were clearly very familiar with the wedding ceremony process. More than three thousand people stood around the altar in a chaotic yet orderly manner, just enough space for Yu Naixin to pass through smoothly.

"It's noon—" the fox demon priest's voice came from the altar, "The bride, ascend the altar—"

Yu Naixin lifted the overly long hem of her wedding dress with both hands and slowly walked up the altar step by step, following the instructions.

Her demeanor was completely at ease, as if she were not a sacrifice being led to the execution ground, but rather the true master of this place.

There are six steps on the altar. As the view gradually rises, Yu Naixin raises her head and finally makes her first eye contact with the fox demon priest after their reunion.

Then, Yu Naixin looked at the fox demon priest, tilted her head slightly, and smiled with her eyes crinkling.

Holy crap, what kind of beauty filter is this?!

[Dressed up like that and smiling so sweetly, if I were a male guest, I'd probably give her 100% approval rating right away!]

So why is this newcomer still so calm and collected?! She's practically offered herself up as a sacrifice!

Honestly, I think this newcomer is the type who could laugh and joke even if she were tied to a gallows, but I just can't understand why she's so eager to get herself hanged...

She must have a backup plan, right? She must!

[At this point, what other tricks could she possibly have up her sleeve? Unless she suddenly awakens a max-level charm skill and bewitches the mountain god instantly, the only difference is whether she dies sooner or later.]

Upon seeing that smile, the fox demon priest instinctively had a bad feeling.

But like the viewers in the live stream, the Fox Demon Priest couldn't understand how Yu Naixin could possibly be saved.

Just to be on the safe side, the fox spirit priest had even checked the entire altar in the previous quarter of an hour and found everything to be normal.

Yu Naixin did nothing, so what gives her such confidence?

Was it just so that dying would look more dashing?

Yu Naixin didn't stop walking. Soon, she and the fox demon priest stood in the center of the altar, in front of the bonfire that was about the size of four or five people's arms.

“Now that the ceremony has reached this stage,” Yu Naixin said leisurely, her intention to dismiss the guests quite clear, “there’s nothing more for the priests to do, right?”

The entire sacrificial ceremony is not complicated. The most difficult part is to dress up the bride and send her to the altar, and then wait for the mountain god to "bless" her from beyond the thick fog.

This is what Yu Naixin learned from the paper doll boy and other villagers of Cocoon Village. When the bride on the altar is completely enveloped by the spreading thick fog and disappears, the ceremony is considered complete.

The fox spirit priestess's role in this is purely symbolic, a mere formality.

In reality, it makes no difference whether he is present or not.

Yu Naixin's matter-of-fact tone immediately made the fox demon priest frown, feeling extremely displeased.

However, under such circumstances, the fox demon priest still tried her best to endure it, snorted coldly, flicked her robes, and walked to the edge of the altar.

At the same time, his fox-like eyes were fixed intently on Yu Naixin at the very center of the altar.

He didn't want to miss any moment when Yu Naixin might be tainted with despair and pain.

[I was wondering why this scene looked so familiar. Not long ago in the tailor shop, the paper doll's gaze was completely fixed on the female guest, wasn't it?]

[Damn, now that you mention it, it's true! Is this newcomer some kind of super glue that's come to life? The male guests can't take their eyes off her, hahaha!]

I'm starting to get nervous! Why is this newbie still so unmoved?!

Further north of the altar, beyond the edge of Cocoon Village, the thick gray fog stirred.

Like a snake, a thick strip of gray mist emerged from the boundary line, leaving a menacing mark on the altar.

Bypassing the campfire, the gray mist quickly wrapped around Yu Naixin's ankles beneath her blood-red wedding dress and began to extend upwards, seemingly capable of completely engulfing her in less than two minutes.

The fox spirit priestess felt her heart beating faster.

However, Yu Naixin's face still showed no sign of panic.

With a flash of silver light in her hand, Yu Naixin took out a fruit knife she had previously purchased from the system shop and, without hesitation, slashed it at the neckline of her wedding dress.

No matter how much a wedding dress may look like cloth, the material used to make it is ultimately paper.

Yu Naixin didn't use much strength; she easily cut her wedding dress from the neckline all the way down, tearing it completely in two in front of her.

Underneath the wedding dress, Yu Naixin was still wearing the white dress that the paper doll boy had made for her. Although she had torn a piece of it, it did not affect the basic function of covering her body; it was just a little tattered.

Then, the more than three thousand eyes present saw a blood-red gash appear on the bride's body on the altar.

Against the backdrop of its pale center, it appeared exceptionally fierce, like a gaping maw of blood.

The gray mist that had already spread to Yu Naixin's calves abruptly stopped.

The villagers below the altar were unaware of what had happened, but the fox demon priest, as the lord of Cocoon Village, was able to notice the strangeness about Yu Naixin immediately.

Fox Demon Priestess: "...!"

The fox spirit priest suddenly realized what was happening.

In the mountain god's sacrificial ceremony, one point that has always been emphasized is that the bride must wear a wedding dress sewn by the paper effigy boy.

Therefore, if the wedding dress is torn, the bride is no longer a "qualified" sacrificial offering!

The fox spirit priest then realized how Yu Naixin had managed to prevent herself from being taken away by the mountain god.

For nearly a hundred years, the brides for each month were selected from within the village of Cocoon. The villagers of Cocoon Village had an innate and extremely high degree of obedience to the mountain god, and it was impossible for them to do something like cutting off their wedding dress on the altar, nor would they even think of such a thing.

As it turned out, Yu Naixin noticed this and took advantage of it!

The gray mist clinging to Yu Naixin's calves hesitated, even showing a tendency to shrink back.

This won't do!

The fox demon priest's eyes narrowed, and he was about to step forward to stop her.

But before the fox demon priest could even act, he realized that he seemed unable to stop it!

Gray Fog's criteria for judging a bride are clear. If he wants Yu Naixin to become a bride he approves of again, he must give Yu Naixin a complete wedding dress and make sure she wears it properly.

Let's put aside the question of whether the mountain god will wait, just consider a new wedding dress—even the fox demon priest couldn't afford it.

After all, the only paper doll boy who could make wedding dresses had long been won over by Yu Naixin!

Only then did the fox demon priest realize how appropriate and ingenious Yu Naixin's choice to make such a move at this time was!

The fox spirit priest had no idea what the consequences would be if the bride, who was halfway through the sacrifice, suddenly disappeared.

But he knew that if Yu Naixin delayed any longer, the sacrificial ceremony would definitely not be completed!

The fox demon priest ground her back teeth fiercely.

This female guest... is incredibly cunning!

[Wait, what happened?! Why does the fox demon's face suddenly look like he'd swallowed a pound of flies?!]

[Legs! Look closely at the female guest's legs! The gray fog is receding!]

Holy crap?! This newbie actually exploited this loophole?!

[The most amazing thing is that she had already won over the paper doll beforehand! Now, no matter how anxious the fox demon is, he can only watch helplessly; without the paper doll's help, there's absolutely no solution!]

When exactly did she come up with this idea, and when did she start planning it?!

Yu Naixin seemed to sense something. She looked in the direction of the fox demon priest and mouthed with a smile, "Don't rush."

This is just the beginning; it's not over yet.

Then, Yu Naixin called out towards a spot below the altar, "Come up!"

While the bustling villagers were still bewildered by Yu Naixin's torn wedding dress, the paper doll boy, who had been waiting for a long time, leaped from the crowd and flew onto the altar.

In the paper figure boy's hands, he held up a neatly folded blood-red wedding robe. He knelt before Yu Naixin and presented the robe with both hands.

【What?! My brain is completely fried! Why did this newlywed couple end up with a completely new wedding dress?!】

[Although it's not the first time we've been completely unpredictable about her intentions, why is it that now, just as we figure out what she's up to, she starts contradicting us?!]

Even if someone is highly skilled and daring, it doesn't have to be something like pole dancing on a tightrope!

[No, this isn't a wedding dress! This isn't what the bride wears!]

Yu Naixin reached out and took the wedding dress, then shook it to reveal a wedding dress that was completely different from the previous wedding gown—it belonged to the groom.

This is something Yu Naixin instructed him to make when she had the paper doll boy take his measurements at the tailor shop.

Yu Naixin casually brushed aside the remaining pieces of her wedding dress, letting them fall to the ground at her feet, and quickly put on the groom's wedding attire.

The paper doll boy immediately helped Yu Naixin straighten her coat, and at the same time, he put a groom's hat, also made of blood-red paper cloth, on Yu Naixin's head.

During the mountain god's wedding ceremony, the groom never makes a formal appearance.

However, as a spirit born from a tailor shop, the paper doll boy, knowing how to make the bride's clothes, also knows how to process the corresponding groom's clothes.

All the villagers' eyes were focused on the altar at this moment, and in the very center of the altar, Yu Naixin was undoubtedly the protagonist.

The paper doll boy was right next to Yu Naixin, her only supporting character, accompanying her as she received the attention of thousands of people.

The paper doll boy's hands were trembling slightly as he tidied Yu Naixin's clothes and accessories.

In all his memory, he had never stood so openly in a crowd, let alone in the spotlight.

He always had to carefully avoid the villagers, crawling and moving about in the shadows, afraid that he would be exposed to anyone's sight and attract their extremely disgusted and repulsive gaze.

Even on the fifteenth of each month, the day of the mountain god's wedding, all the residents of Cocoon Village must come out to watch the ceremony, and the paper doll boy only dares to hide in a secluded corner, trying to minimize his presence.

Occasionally, the paper doll boy would wonder why, in such a large village as Cocoon Village, with nearly a thousand households, not a single person would not dislike him.

Even though the wedding dress he sewed himself was an indispensable part of the most important festival in the village, no one gave him even the slightest bit of affirmation.

They always took the wedding dress from him as quickly as possible, as if they were afraid that getting too close to him would bring bad luck, and then just as naturally ignored him completely.

Clearly... he should also be considered to have made some contributions.

Now, for the first time in his life, the paper doll boy has become the center of attention in the villagers' eyes, and no one shows any hatred because of his existence.

He can even receive attention from all directions along with his works.

This filled the paper doll boy with joy and satisfaction from the bottom of his soul.

Even in my most beautiful dreams, I have never seen such a scene!

And all of this... is thanks to Yu Naixin.

The paper-figure boy looked at the girl in front of him; her features were exquisite, more dazzling than any flame he had ever seen.

Even if flames are a gift from the gods, in the eyes of the paper doll boy, they are not as valuable as Yu Naixin.

Therefore, he was willing to do anything she asked of him.

Although he knew nothing of the reason, purpose, or even the risks, the paper doll boy did not ask a single question, nor did he hesitate or waver in the slightest.

She... was the only goddess in his heart.

[Congratulations, female guest! The male guest "Paper Doll Tailor" has reached 100% affection for you!]

You will receive additional generous rewards during the settlement process after this program ends!

Yu Naixin was slightly taken aback when she suddenly received a new reminder from the "Heartbeat 1000%" program team.

What? The male guest has a preference rating for her?

This announcement was also displayed directly in the live broadcast room and communicated to the viewers.

[The paper doll has 100% affection! I knew I could win this newcomer over!]

[Congratulations to the female guest on the show "Heartbeat 1000%"! You have received 5 Sweet Coins from a viewer with the ID "Let Me Eat Candy"!]

[Watching it all, it seems like it's actually quite easy to raise the paper doll's favorability, but very difficult to max it out. This newbie is really skilled!]

[Congratulations to the female guest on the show "Heartbeat 1000%"! You have received 11 Sweet Coins from a viewer with the ID "Thumbs Up"!]

Yu Naixin didn't have high expectations for the so-called "generous rewards" from the program team, but since it was extra money, it was better to have it than nothing.

Ignoring all that, Yu Naixin continued changing her clothes.

The clothes were all custom-made for Yu Naixin by the paper doll boy. In just a short while, Yu Naixin was dressed in a new outfit and became a... bride wearing a groom's wedding dress.

Once she got here, no one could understand what she was trying to do.

As the entire village of Cocoon stared in disbelief, Yu Naixin called out to the people below the altar for the second time, "Young Master Bai, since you've brought everything, come up here!"

The fox demon priest, her mind blank, followed Yu Naixin's gaze and was shocked to find the figure of the white-boned scholar.

Who is Young Master Bai? Is he that skeleton? Is his surname Bai?

Do you think this newbie would care what the skeleton's last name is? They're probably just calling him that because the skeleton is all bones...

【Wait, why is there a skeleton here?! Wasn't he already ruined by the female guest? We haven't seen him for ages!】

The area between the second and fifth ribs of the White Bone Scholar's chest was still completely empty, with only a vertebra remaining, along with the upper and lower parts.

In his hand, he was carrying a large bucket filled with water.

What is the skeleton doing with the bucket?!

[The skeletons, like the paper figures, seem to have been pre-arranged by this newcomer?]

I know she whispered a lot of instructions to the paper doll, but when did she arrange for the skeleton?!

[Oh, I remember now! Right after the skeleton dismantled all the bones around the heart, the female guest whispered something in his ear! But it was probably just one sentence, and it was so brief that none of us noticed!]

Upon hearing Yu Naixin's words, the White Bone Scholar let out a long sigh.

He did indeed hear Yu Naixin say, "Remember to bring some water to the altar after the wedding ceremony begins; the more water, the better," before she left her house, which is why he did it.

Once he decided to obey Yu Naixin's every word in order to gain a sliver of hope, the White Bone Scholar had no other choice.

Even if Yu Naixin didn't bestow this favor upon him in the end, at least he had tried his best to fight for it, which was better than just waiting for the ending to come.

Using his spiritual power, the Bone Scholar leaped onto the altar.

Yu Naixin glanced at the huge bucket in the white-boned scholar's hand and thought to herself that the bastard was actually quite honest when it came to doing serious work.

Realizing she couldn't lift it by herself, Yu Naixin simply pointed to the campfire beside her and said, "Pour it on, and put out the fire completely."

White Bone Scholar: "...?!"

The White Bone Scholar, who considered himself to have witnessed far too many of Yu Naixin's "ingenious ideas," still couldn't help but tremble when he heard this order.

Extinguish... the divine fire at the center of the altar?!

Although the White Bone Scholar was not a native of Cocoon Village, divine punishment descended not long after he arrived. His reverence for the divine fire was no less than that of the villagers of Cocoon Village.

After all, all the flames in the entire Cocoon Village come from the sacred fire pile on the altar, and its sacredness and importance should not be underestimated.

But Yu Naixin wanted him to extinguish the divine fire completely?!

Honestly, the White Bone Scholar was having a hard time bringing himself to do it.

But Yu Naixin only glanced at him lightly, and the White Bone Scholar shuddered again. He immediately picked up the wooden bucket, gritted his teeth, and poured all the water inside onto the campfire.

Why would this newcomer bother pouring water on a fire?

[The skeleton is carrying such a huge bucket just to extinguish the fire on the altar? What did that fire do to offend her?]

[The female guest was dressed in the groom's clothes for the mountain god and had his fire poured on him; did she harbor such deep resentment towards the mountain god?]

The moment the flames went out, the already dimly lit Komaku Village became several shades darker.

The villagers below the altar were going crazy.

"Divine fire! Divine fire!—No!—"

"Damn skull staff! What are you doing?!"

"It's over! It's over! It's over!! The divine fire bestowed upon us by the Mountain God is gone, and the Mountain God will never forgive us—!!!"

Previously, whether Yu Naixin cut her wedding dress or changed into a wedding gown, the villagers of Cocoon Village were shocked but not too excited.

But now, the divine fire has been extinguished, which is practically a death sentence for them!

The villagers were enraged and in chaos. Amid the pushing and shoving, some even tried to rush onto the altar and fight the skeleton scholar to the death.

Yu Naixin didn't waste any time either. After making sure the campfire was extinguished, she quickly took a piece of dry wood from the edge of the fire, took out the lighter she bought from the system store, and lit the wood with a "snap".

It must be said that the sacred fire at the Cocoon Village altar is indeed somewhat miraculous. Yu Naixin only lit one piece of wood inside, and the brightness of the light was restored instantly.

The villagers' movements seemed to be frozen in time, and when the flames were lit again, the entire village of Cocoon fell into a deathly silence.

They stared at the piece of wood in Yu Naixin's hand, and at the lighter that was still on in her other hand, their eyes almost popping out of their deep sockets.

No one but the Mountain God can bring fire; this is common knowledge that even a three-year-old in Cocoon Village knows.

Yu Naixin specifically confirmed this when she visited Cocoon Village. Cocoon Village has no tools that can be used to start a fire. Not only are there no matches, but even more primitive items like flint and steel do not exist.

Fire seemed to be a privilege reserved for the gods.

However, Yu Naixin tested the lighter after buying it and found that it worked perfectly fine and was not affected by any external factors.

The lighter was far too "advanced" for the entire Cocoon Village.

At this point, the logical chain of Yu Naixin's plan has taken shape.

The character of "Mountain God" is not known to ordinary villagers, the paper doll boy and the white bone scholar, or even to the information that Yu Naixin managed to obtain from the fox demon priest. All of this indicates that no one has ever seen "He".

Especially after learning about the existence of the "Domain Lord," Yu Naixin even doubted whether the "Mountain God" actually existed.

After all, as a "domain lord," the fox demon priest already has very high authority. The entire Cocoon Village can be said to be his domain. Under such circumstances, the "mountain god's" position becomes quite awkward.

Surely it can't be some external being with higher authority that can suppress the fox spirit priest?

Although Yu Naixin is at least 50% certain that there is indeed a wider and more complete world outside of Koko Village, all information about the outside world is taboo in this episode of "Heartbeat 1000%".

Whether it's the White Bone Scholar's inability to recall his hometown, or the fact that the villagers of Cocoon Village would be directly wiped out if they mentioned the outside world or tried to break through the gray fog, both prove this point.

The mystery will eventually be solved. Even though Yu Naixin initially thought that choosing any of the three male guests would be a certain death, she eventually found the correct way to pass the two routes: the White Bone Scholar and the Paper Doll Boy.

To put it bluntly, given the capabilities of the "Heartbeat 1000%" production team, they could have easily made an ordinary human being die or suffer a fate worse than death in many ways. There was no need to create so much unnecessary chaos.

There is definitely a way to survive.

Therefore, it can be inferred that the "Mountain God," who holds an extraordinary position in Cocoon Village, would not bypass the information network of Cocoon Village itself, and could still find real clues in the information presented within Cocoon Village.

The fox demon priest himself lacked reverence for the "mountain god." His statement that "the mountain god would not mind an occasional oversight in the wedding ceremony" was enough to show that he would not be punished even if he fooled the mountain god.

To be honest, if Yu Naixin hadn't obtained a lot of information from the simulator beforehand, she would have thought that if there really was a "mountain god" in Cocoon Village, it would probably be a fox demon priest.

However, now, after combining all the information, Yu Naixin can almost confirm that there is no definite existence of any "mountain god".

"He" is merely an image formed through word of mouth among the villagers of Cocoon Village and in the perception of the three male guests.

Since that's the case—

Why can't she become a mountain god?

The mountain god can control the gray fog outside the village of Cocoon. Yu Naixin used the gray fog to tear her wedding dress after it wrapped around her, thus achieving the goal of actively controlling the gray fog's comings and goings.

The mountain god would act as the groom during the wedding ceremony, so Yu Naixin had the paper doll boy specially make a set of wedding attire for the groom. After ascending the altar as the bride to introduce the groom, she changed into the groom's wedding clothes and completed the entire ceremony.

The mountain god would bestow flames upon Cocoon Village, so Yu Naixin used a lighter she bought from the system shop to rekindle the divine fire source on the altar in front of all the villagers.

Yu Naixin hasn't forgotten that she's currently a female guest on a dating reality show.

Variety shows inherently possess a certain performative element.

Not to mention that after she came to this show, the identity she passively accepted was "the sacrificial bride who will be offered to the mountain god this month".

Everything Yu Naixin did during the program was accomplished under the premise of playing this role.

Since it's all about playing a role anyway, why can't you choose the mountain god who accepts the sacrifice rather than the innocent sacrificial girl?

—She did everything a mountain god could do, so who can deny that she is a mountain god?
