Chapter 11 Acquisition Station

After buying the pork, Zeng Wenjuan saw that it was getting close to noon, so she said to Goudan, "How about I take you to eat noodles?"

"Okay, as long as you follow mom, you can go anywhere." Goudan put his thin arms around Zeng Wenjuan's neck and said in a baby voice.

We arrived at the state-owned restaurant and took Goudan in. It was lunchtime and there were already two long lines inside. Most of them were young men and women. People of this age, with no burdens and jobs, just wanted to satisfy their appetite.

"Comrade, I need three taels of vegetarian noodles. It's really troublesome." After Zeng Wenjuan's turn, she said to the waiter of the state-owned restaurant.

"You're welcome. We're serving the people. This is your sign. When your number is called, come and get your food." The waiter said expressionlessly and handed Zeng Wenjuan a wooden sign.

Zeng Wenjuan took the sign with a smile, and took Goudan to find a seat to sit down. Of course, there was no separate seat for me, so we had to share the table with other people.

"85 good vegetarian noodles are ready." After a while, the waiter shouted at the window.

Zeng Wenjuan looked at the girl next to her and said, "Comrade, I'm going to serve noodles. Can you help me check the position? Is that okay?"

When the girl heard this, she smiled and said, "Of course, if anyone comes to sit over here I'll tell them you're going to serve the food."

"Okay, thank you!" Zeng Wenjuan thanked again with a smile, then she carried the backpack and took Goudan to the window to serve the meal.

After handing over the sign, the waiter pointed at the noodles and said, "This is yours. The chopsticks are over there. There are cold dishes there. Each person can have a spoonful." The waiter pointed to a place and said.

After Zeng Wenjuan ordered some side dishes, she carefully returned to her seat with the noodles in her small bowl and chopsticks. Goudan also returned to his seat holding Zeng Wenjuan's clothes.

"Comrade, thank you for saving a seat for me." Zeng Wenjuan followed the little girl and thanked her again.

The little girl smiled sweetly: "It just so happened that no one came in just now, and the seat was originally yours. This is your son! He is so cute."

"Goudan, call me sister." Zeng Wenjuan nodded and said to Goudan.

Goudan hid behind Zeng Wenjuan and called out shyly, "Hello, sister."

"Hehehe... Big sister, I'm not a few years younger than you, how can I let the children call me sister? Just call me auntie." The little girl took out three candies from her pocket: "Here, have a candy. It's very sweet and delicious."

Goudan shook his head: "Thank you, sister. Mom bought it for me. You can't just take other people's food. Mom will tell you."

"Your mother has taught you very well. You really shouldn't take other people's food casually, especially when you are alone." When the little girl heard what Goudan said, she put the candy away. She also felt a little distressed.

Zeng Wenjuan looked at Goudan and patted his head to show her praise. She then put the noodles into a small bowl and waited for it to cool down before pushing it in front of Goudan: "Blow on it when you eat it, so you don't get burned."

After lunch, there was still time. Zeng Wenjuan thought about going to the purchasing station to find some books to study. She realized today why she couldn't use the golden finger, because she couldn't read and didn't know the treasure, even if the treasure was in front of her, she wouldn't recognize it.

"Mom, what are we doing here?" Goudan asked, looking at the low house in front of him.

Zeng Wenjuan bent down and said, "Mom, come and find some books to read. There is an old saying that says books are the golden house." Although she knew that Goudan didn't understand, Zeng Wenjuan still said it.

As soon as I walked into the purchasing station, I saw an old lady sitting in the yard knitting sweaters. When she saw someone coming in, she asked, "Girl, are you in the wrong place?"

"Auntie, I wanted to come in and find two books to read. My family is poor and I can't read a single word, so I thought I'd learn on my own." Zeng Wenjuan explained her purpose.

The old lady was a free woman of the new era. After hearing Zeng Wenjuan's words, she stood up with a smile and said, "It's a good thing to love learning! I just put away a few good books. Wait! I'll give them to you."

"Thank you, Auntie. I think it would be useful if you put those books away. I'd better go into the house and look for them myself!" Zeng Wenjuan felt embarrassed to delay in accepting the things that people wanted.

The old lady smiled and said, "It's okay, I have collected many sets. My granddaughter is a high school student, she knows those books are useful, so I collected them and can give them to anyone who needs them."

"Then, Auntie, can I see what books are available? I want to read books on traditional Chinese medicine." Zeng Wenjuan stated her needs straightforwardly.

When the old lady heard Zeng Wenjuan's words, she looked towards the door in fear, fearing that someone had heard her. Fortunately, she didn't see anyone else. The old lady lowered her voice and said, "You can't learn Chinese medicine. It will bring you bad luck."

Zeng Wenjuan nodded: "Thank you for reminding me, Auntie. But I will only read the book at home, and no one will find out. Even if they find out, I won't tell Auntie."

The old lady nodded: "Okay, come in with me! If there are any books you need, I'll weigh them for you. Be sure to hide them well when you get home, or you'll be in trouble."

Following the old lady into the house, they saw a corner filled with books. Zeng Wenjuan also showed her desire for knowledge. When Zhao Zhaocai was in school, she also wanted to study, but the Zhao family would not support her to go to school.

"My granddaughter said these two books are ancient books. They will be very useful if preserved. She has already copied a copy. If you want them, take them. There is also a complete set of books from elementary school to high school. There is also a dictionary that I got from somewhere. Take it too." The old lady said as she spread out the books one by one.

Zeng Wenjuan smiled and hugged the book, bowing deeply: "Thank you for giving me such a good book. I will keep it well and study hard to live up to your expectations."

"Okay, okay...good child. You don't have to put so much pressure on yourself. If your daughter can learn a few more words and understand more principles, her life will be different." The old lady said with a smile.

After taking some clean newspapers and paying three yuan according to the weight, Zeng Wenjuan took Goudan by the hand and said goodbye to the old lady: "Auntie, I have to go first or I will miss the ox cart later. When I learn some knowledge, I will definitely come to report to you."

"Okay, okay... be careful on the road!" After saying goodbye to Zeng Wenjuan at the door, the old lady went back to the yard to continue knitting.

Zeng Wenjuan carried a full basket of things, weighing about 50 to 60 kilograms, and led Goudan back to the ox cart.

As soon as the mother and son got on the ox cart, the people on the cart felt the weight. Aunt Dongxiu's village loudspeaker immediately asked, "Wenjuan, what did you buy? It's so heavy, where did you get the money?"
