Goudan heard Zeng Wenjuan's words and followed her into the study. Seeing her measuring herself with a tape measure, Goudan asked curiously, "Mom, why don't you use the usual ruler?"
"Hahaha, silly child, how can that kind of ruler measure size? It can only measure what is in books. And you can only use this kind of soft ruler to measure the human body, because people are round." Zeng Wenjuan explained with a smile.
After Zeng Wenjuan finished measuring the size, she said to Goudan, "Okay, you can go out and play, but remember to go home for lunch and don't play outside for too long."
"I got it, Mom." Goudan said obediently, and ran out happily with the money in his hand.
Zeng Wenjuan began to draw the pattern of the clothes she wanted to make according to Goudan’s dimensions, and then started cutting the cloth with scissors.
"They are making clothes for Goudan." Zhao Jianguo woke up and came to the study in a wheelchair.
"You're up now, are you feeling well? I'm indeed making clothes for Goudan. It's ready for you. Put on the shirt and I'll see if there's anything I want to modify." Zeng Wenjuan turned her head and saw Zhao Jianguo pushing a wheelchair into the study.
Zhao Jianguo slid the wheelchair to the side of the table, picked up his clothes and put them on to try: "How do you think I look in them?"
Zeng Wenjuan turned her head and saw Zhao Jianguo wearing a Zhongshan suit with a straight figure. The dark red color and the pattern made Zhao Jianguo look even more majestic.
"Well, it's pretty good. It's exactly as I imagined. Take it off first. I'll wash it together tomorrow, and hang it in your closet after it's dried in the sun." Zeng Wenjuan nodded and said to Zhao Jianguo.
Zhao Jianguo obediently took off his shirt and put it aside. He then slid the wheelchair next to Zeng Wenjuan and asked her, "Is there anything I can help you with? I just happen to have nothing to do at home."
"There's nothing to do. I'm almost done. Look, it's almost 11:30. I'm going to make lunch." Zeng Wenjuan said to Zhao Jianguo.
"Okay, I'll help you wash the vegetables. It also saves you from having to do everything by yourself. That would be so tiring." Zhao Jianguo is a very patriarchal person at heart. He thinks his wife should be beautiful, and he should do as much work as possible at home.
The couple both went into the kitchen. Zeng Wenjuan took a look at the things in the kitchen. There were only a few pieces of tofu that had not been taken away and were getting moldy, as well as a handful of green vegetables, peppers and some other ingredients.
"How about we have fried tofu and stir-fried sauerkraut with peppers for lunch today. These are the only two dishes we can cook at home." Zeng Wenjuan turned to Zhao Jianguo and said.
"Okay. I'll do as you say. Let's make these two dishes." Zhao Jianguo had no opinion. Whatever his wife said was fine as long as it was edible.
After hearing Zhao Jianguo nod, Zeng Wenjuan started washing the peppers. Then she took out two pickled cabbages from the jar and put them in the basin and started washing them.
I picked the leaves off one by one, because the celery was not cleaned when pickling sauerkraut, so there might be some sand in it. If you don't pay attention to cleaning it, it will make a sound when you bite it.
Zeng Wenjuan cleaned the garlic sprouts and started cutting the vegetables, slicing and arranging them. Zhao Jianguo also started to light the fire and went to the stove.
The first thing she cooked was fried tofu. Zeng Wenjuan put the tofu in her hand and cut it horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. After cutting, she put the pieces into the pot one by one.
The oil temperature continued to rise slowly. The pan was sizzling with oil. When one side of the tofu was fried golden, Zeng Wenjuan took the spatula and began to turn the tofu over. When both sides were fried golden, Zeng Wenjuan scooped up the tofu.
Pour in a little more lard, add the side dishes, and start frying. When it is almost done, add salt. Continue frying for a few more times, then pour the fried tofu into the pot and cook together, then add soy sauce to taste. Pour in a little bit of clean and clear mountain spring water.
Zeng Wenjuan covered the pot and looked at it quietly.
"Wenjuan, your cooking skills are getting better and better. I still remember when you first learned to cook, you didn't even dare to hold a knife." Zhao Jianguo looked at Zeng Wenjuan and recalled their childhood.
"Yes, as a person, you have to slowly learn to do things on your own. If you hadn't been there at that time, I would probably have been beaten every day." Zeng Wenjuan said with some sadness.
Zhao Jianguo felt a little distressed. He was really a damn fool. He kept talking about things that were not related to the topic. Then he heard the bubbling sound in the pot and said to Zeng Wenjuan, "Is the dish ready?"
Zeng Wenjuan opened the pot after hearing this and saw that the soup in the pot was already bubbling. She added a spoonful of MSG to season it, and after the MSG melted, Zeng Wenjuan stir-fried it twice and served the dish on a plate.
The next step is to stir-fry the pickled cabbage with peppers. Put the pickled cabbage directly into the pot. Stir-fry over high heat until all the moisture in the pickled cabbage is dried.
Zeng Wenjuan saw that the pickled cabbage was almost done, so she scooped it up and put it aside for later use. Then she shoveled a spoonful of lard into the pot.
"Brother Jianguo, just put another piece of firewood in. No need to burn it again. I'm almost done. Why don't you go out first? The peppers will be quite spicy when you fry them later." Zeng Wenjuan said to Zhao Jianguo while keeping her hands moving.
Zhao Jianguo waved his hand indifferently: "It's okay, I'll help you cook in the house."
Zeng Wenjuan didn't say anything after hearing what Zhao Jianguo said. She poured the peppers into the pot, sprinkled a handful of salt and started frying the peppers. When the peppers were almost done, she poured the sauerkraut that had been fried before into the pot.
Then he used the spatula to scoop up a spoonful of lard. Stir-fried sauerkraut requires oil. If you don’t put more oil, the sauerkraut will not taste good.
When the dishes were ready, Zeng Wenjuan opened the kitchen door, and Zhao Jianguo followed her out to the living room carrying two plates of dishes. Then Zeng Wenjuan closed the kitchen door to prevent the fumes from coming out.
"Mom and Dad, is it time to eat? I'm so hungry." Goudan was sitting in his special seat, sweating profusely after playing. When he saw Zeng Wenjuan and Zhao Jianguo coming out, he said to them.
"Look at all the sweat on your head. You don't even know how to wipe it off. It's so dirty." Zeng Wenjuan walked quickly to Goudan with a handkerchief and helped him wipe the sweat off his head. She then pulled his clothes off.
"What did I teach you? You don't even know you're hot. Pull your clothes open a little. If the sweat is trapped in your clothes, you'll catch a cold and have a fever. Do you want to get an injection?" Zeng Wenjuan said to Goudan in a threatening tone.
