"Okay!" Goudan pursed his lips and agreed.
Goudan put an earthworm on the hook again and threw it into the river. Not long after the hook was in the river, Goudan felt the fish being bitten again.
"Mom, another fish is stuck, come and help me." Goudan Nai cried for help.
Zeng Wenjuan heard Goudan's cry and immediately walked over to help him pull up the hook. This time they caught a five-jin black fish with a shiny, water-slick body.
"Goudan is so lucky today. He caught two fish this big on his first try. It's a cold day, so let's go home early." Zeng Wenjuan put the fish in the bucket and then praised Goudan.
Zhao Jianguo turned around and took a look at the three fish in the bucket. He said unconvincedly, "Wait a little longer. I'll catch a bigger fish than Goudan's and then we'll go back."
So Zhao Jianguo readjusted his fishing position and devoted himself to fishing more attentively. He carefully observed the movement of the water surface and adjusted the tightness of the fishing line from time to time. Goudan and Zeng Wenjuan watched his actions from the side, occasionally smiling at each other and enjoying this warm family time.
Time passed by, and the sun slowly rose to its highest point in the sky. Just when everyone thought that Zhao Jianguo might not be able to fulfill his promise, his fishing float suddenly shook violently.
"Got it!" Zhao Jianguo shouted and quickly lifted the fishing rod. He saw a big fish struggling on the water, splashing water. After some effort, Zhao Jianguo finally pulled the big fish ashore.
"Haha, look, this fish is bigger than the one Goudan caught!" Zhao Jianguo proudly showed off his trophy with a satisfied smile on his face.
This is another grass carp, about 12 pounds, with a particularly large head. Put it in the bucket, and the bucket is almost full of fish.
Zeng Wenjuan and Goudan came over and looked at the full bucket of fish. Zeng Wenjuan nodded with satisfaction: "We have already caught so many fish after washing them, so let's go home quickly. Then we can take another one to our parents."
"Okay, okay, take another one to grandma, and grandpa will take the biggest fish I caught." Goudan squatted down, poked the ten-pound grass carp in the bucket with his finger and said.
So, the family happily packed up their fishing gear, carried their heavy buckets, and set off on the road home. The midday sun shone on them, as softly as a mother caressing her child.
After returning home, Zeng Wenjuan pulled a large wooden barrel and filled it with mountain spring water, then dumped several fish into it, leaving only the ten-jin grass carp and the five-jin black fish in the barrel.
"Then let's eat this black fish at noon. Do you want it steamed or braised? Steamed ones are better and can retain the original flavor of the fish. Let's take the other 10-jin fish to our parents' house after lunch." Zeng Wenjuan said the last sentence to Zhao Jianguo.
"Since you're going to give a gift, give the biggest one! The one that weighs twelve pounds." Zhao Jianguo said this with selfish motives. First, Chen Yitang was also a fishing enthusiast, and this would satisfy his desire to show off. Second, as a son-in-law, he had never given any gifts to his father-in-law and mother-in-law, so this fish would be a good thing.
"That's fine. I'll put this fish in as well. After we finish eating, I'll take out the 12-pound fish. I'm afraid my parents won't be willing to eat such a heavy fish." Du Wenjuan changed it and poured the other grass carp into the wooden barrel. Then she walked into the kitchen holding the black fish by its gills.
Zeng Wenjuan put the black fish on the wooden block, picked up the blanket and hit the black fish on the head, knocking the fish unconscious.
This can also prevent the fish from jumping around. She handled the black fish skillfully, scraping the scales and removing the internal organs. Every movement seemed so smooth. Goudan watched curiously from the side, and from time to time he stretched out his little hand to help, but was blocked by his mother with a smile.
"Mom is killing fish, don't keep stretching your hand over. If you get cut by the knife, you will cry."
"Hehe, I just wanted to help mom. Mom is so powerful, she killed the fish with one hit." Goudan shyly retracted his hand and stared at the fish stupidly, as if the fish was already cooked in his mouth.
"It's not that mom is good, it's that the knife is too heavy. Mom hit him on the head with the knife and he fainted. When you grow up, mom will teach you how to cook. There are skills to cooking as well." Zeng Wenjuan said to Goudan with a smile.
Zhao Jianguo was not idle either. He sat in a wheelchair, peeling garlic, washing onions and ginger. The most important thing about this word is the fun, otherwise it would be hard for people to eat it if the fishy smell was too strong.
As they chatted and laughed, the aroma of fish wafted out of the kitchen. The aroma of steamed black fish mixed with the freshness of mountain spring water made people salivate. Zeng Wenjuan came out with a large plate of steaming fish.
"It's time to wash your hands and eat. Come and taste what you have harvested today." Zeng Wenjuan called out to Zhao Jianguo who was getting dishes in the kitchen and Goudan who was playing with toys on the sofa.
Hearing that it was time to eat, Goudan immediately dropped his toys and ran to the dining table. He climbed onto his own chair and saw a whole fish placed in the middle of the table. He lay on the table and sniffed the fragrance of the fish.
"Wow, it smells so good, mom. Can you give me a piece of fish? I want the biggest and most delicious piece."
“You come here first, and mom will wash you. After you wash your hands, we can start eating. Otherwise, there will be a lot of bacteria on the tree. You also picked up earthworms today. When worms grow in your stomach, you will cry.” Zeng Wenjuan said the most frightening words to a child in the gentlest tone.
When Goudan heard this, he immediately sat down obediently, stretched out his hands, and waited for Zeng Wenjuan to wipe his hands with a towel. When Zhao Jianguo came out of the kitchen with the bowls and chopsticks, he began to pick the bones from the fish and put them in Zeng Wenjuan and Goudan's bowls.
"Goudan is a little hero of our family. Mom is a big hero of our family. She made this delicious fish. It smells fragrant and delicious, so I'll reward you two and let you eat it first." Zhao Jianguo said happily to the two of them, giving them a thumbs up.
As a child, Goudan didn't know what courtesy meant. It was already in his bowl, and he had wanted to eat it for so long, so he just picked up his chopsticks, picked up the fish meat, and put it in his mouth... chew, chew, chew, chew... swallow.
