As the sun sets, the sky is stained with a gorgeous sunset glow. Goudan and his friends bid farewell reluctantly and promise to play together again next time.
"Just now I said goodbye to my brother. You guys should be careful on the road. I will be staying at my grandparents' house for the next few days. If you want to come over and play, you can come find me." Goudan waved his hand and said to his friends.
The friends also waved goodbye to Goudan. Maodan shouted, "Goudan, we will come to play with you tomorrow. You must prepare more toys!"
Goudan smiled and replied: "No problem, I will! You must come!"
After watching his friends gradually disappear into the distance, Goudan returned to the house. Zeng Yike was busy preparing dinner in the kitchen, and Goudan ran over to help set the table.
"Grandma, my friends and I had a lot of fun today. I'm so grateful to you for giving me such a nice slide." Goudan said with a smile on his face.
Zeng Yike patted Goudan's head lovingly: "As long as you like it and it's something that's good for you, grandpa and grandma will help you do it. Well, but you also have to study hard to become a useful person like your father and mother."
Goudan nodded vigorously: "Yes! I will!"
The family sat around the dinner table. Zeng Yike scooped a few fish balls for Goudan with a clay spoon: "This is fish balls, softer than meatballs, and without fish bones. Well, try it. If it tastes good, grandpa and grandma will make it for you next time."
Goudan obediently scooped up the fish ball with a spoon, put it to his mouth and took a bite. After taking a bite, Goudan happily praised: "Wow, this fish ball is delicious, soft and fluffy. But I don't like the ginger taste on it... It's not delicious."
"This fish has a fishy smell. Adding some ginger can remove the smell. If you don't like it, grandma will put less next time." Zeng Yike smiled and said when she heard Goudan say this.
"Thank you, grandma. The food tonight is delicious! Grandpa and grandma are great cooks." Goudan is a person who is particularly good at providing emotional value to others. He tasted every dish and praised them.
"Eat more if you like it. We've prepared a lot anyway. It's enough for us to eat." Zeng Wenjuan touched Goudan's head and said to Goudan.
After the meal, Goudan offered to help clean up the dishes: "Has everyone finished eating? If so, I'll help clean up the dishes!" He then started to collect the chopsticks and stack them up one by one.
Zeng Yike and Zeng Wenjuan were pleased to see Goudan working so hard. Chen Yitang stood up and said to Goudan, "You don't need to help. Go out and play. Grandpa will take care of everything here. When you are older, you can come to Grandpa's house. Grandpa won't allow you to not work."
After hearing what his grandfather said, Goudan wanted to help, but he also knew that his grandfather loved him and didn't want him to be too tired. So he smiled and said to his grandfather, "Okay, Grandpa, I'll go play outside for a while and come back to help later."
After saying that, Goudan put down the bowl and chopsticks in his hands and ran to the yard. He looked up at the sky. The sunset glow had gradually faded and night began to fall. Under the big tree in the yard, a rocking chair was rocking gently. That was where my grandfather liked to sit the most.
He ran over quickly and sat on the rocking chair. The little man sat on the rocking chair, rocking and rocking until he fell asleep.
"This kid is so fierce! It's dark now. It's cooler at night than during the day, so how come he fell asleep on the recliner?" After Zeng Yike came out of the house, he saw Goudan sleeping on the recliner. He held him in his arms, gathered his clothes, and carried Goudan back to the house.
Zeng Yike gently put Goudan on the bed, covered him with a blanket, and then sat beside the bed, looking at his sleeping face lovingly. Goudan was breathing evenly, with a smile on his face, as if he was having a sweet dream.
Zeng Yike couldn't help but feel a warm feeling in her heart, and she whispered to herself, "This child is so adorable. He looks just like his mother when he's asleep. He's so cute, well-behaved, and sensible. If only..." If those things hadn't happened, would their family of three be happier?
At this time, Zeng Wenjuan also walked into the room and saw that Goudan had fallen asleep. She asked softly, "Mom, is Goudan asleep? How did this child fall asleep outside? What if he catches a cold at night? He doesn't even know to come inside to sleep."
Zeng Yike smiled and shook her head: "It's okay, I've already brought him in. Maybe he was too tired from playing today, so he fell asleep without noticing. But seeing how soundly he slept, there should be nothing wrong."
Zeng Wenjuan nodded, walked to the window and closed it a little to prevent the night wind from blowing in and catching Goudan cold. Then he turned around and said to Zeng Yike: "Goudan has been very happy with you these days. Since joining the army, he has made many good friends here. I am happy for him too."
Zeng Yike smiled and responded: "Yes, the friendship between children is always so pure and beautiful. We are also very pleased that Goudan can find happiness here. I hope he can continue to grow up healthy and happy in the future."
Zeng Wenjuan sighed with emotion: "Time flies so fast. Goudan has grown up in the blink of an eye. I still remember when he first came, he was so small, but now he has become a young man."
"Yes, time flies by so fast." Zeng Yike nodded, a trace of memory flashing in her eyes: "Children change every day, and you were the same when you were little. Your mother didn't keep an eye on you at the beginning. It's been more than 20 years since we last saw each other, and you've grown up so much."
"Well, although we missed each other for more than 20 years, we still have decades to spend together in the future. We should look forward." Zeng Wenjuan also knew that Zeng Yike was thinking about the time when she was lost, so she quickly said to comfort him.
The two of them sat quietly beside the bed, looking at Goudan's sleeping face, their hearts filled with expectations and blessings for the future.
In the quiet night, the only sounds in the house were Goudan's even breathing and the occasional chirping of insects outside the window. Zeng Yike and Zeng Wenjuan smiled at each other, their eyes revealing their deep love and expectations for Goudan.
Zeng Wenjuan said softly, "Mom, you should go to bed early too. You have to get up early tomorrow. I'll take care of Goudan here."
"Okay, then you three should go to bed early. Mom will go out first." Zeng Yike looked at Zhao Jianguo, then at Zeng Wenjuan, then stood up and said to Zeng Wenjuan.
After seeing Zeng Yike off from the room, Zeng Wenjuan closed the door. Zhao Jianguo had already laid down on the bed, sleeping inside, and Goudan was sleeping in the middle.
