Chapter 161 Begging

Ye Linxing, "???"

"Can you eat it raw?"

He picked up a pine nut with some surprise, looked at it, and then looked at Jian Yuelan.

"Yes."

She peeled a pine nut and fed it to him. "Raw pine nuts have a slightly astringent taste. Unripe ones taste better, but their nutritional value is higher than ripe ones."

“I quite like eating it raw.”

Ye Linxing tasted it carefully and nodded, "It tastes really good."

Then, he took all the pine nuts that Jian Yuelan had picked out and was busy peeling them when he suddenly heard a sound of breaking air above his head. With a bang, something hit his head and fell to the ground.

He looked down at the pine cone that had fallen at his feet, then looked up and saw a little squirrel standing on a high pine branch. The moment their eyes met, the little squirrel began to coo.

Ye Linxing was silent for two seconds, then decisively complained to Jian Yuelan, "Wife, the squirrel bullied me."

"We ate its food, so it's normal for it to be angry."

The implication is: Don't be angry with the little squirrel.

Without waiting for his reply, she raised the pole and said, "Stand aside. I'm going to start knocking pine cones."

This is a serious matter, and Ye Linxing has no reason to refuse.

He stepped back decisively and watched Jian Yuelan raise the pole and knock on the pine cones hanging on the branches. With the sound of dong dong, the pine cones fell to the ground one by one.

The noise was so loud that it startled the squirrels that were busy storing food for the winter.

The little guys stood on the branches, holding pine cones, looking down at the two-legged beasts below who were fighting with them for food. They were stunned for a long time and almost exploded with anger.

Then, the whole forest was filled with sounds such as "cooing" and "hissing" that expressed anger, dissatisfaction, and warnings.

While Ye Linxing was picking up the pine cones that Jian Yuelan had knocked down and putting them into his bag, he looked at the squirrels in a panic and said with a certain gloating, "You can't beat us, so just hold your anger."

The squirrels didn't understand, but they understood Ye Linxing's actions of putting pine cones into the bag, and they became even angrier.

People tend to do stupid things when they are angry, and the same goes for squirrels.

The little squirrels with pine cones in their hands hit him with them, and those without pine cones picked some and hit him with them.

Most squirrels had poor aim, and the falling pine cones all landed near him. Only a very small number of them hit him, but it didn't hurt much.

Looking at the pine cones falling like rain, he said to Jian Yuelan happily, "Wife, I think you should stop knocking. It would be better to make the little guys angry and let them pick the pine cones and throw them down."

"It's so delicious to get something for nothing, just reach out and pick it up!"

"Be a human being."

It's not easy for the little squirrel either, so there's really no need to bully it.

"I am a human being, I don't need to be a human being."

Having said that, he didn't set his sights on catching squirrels, but was conscientiously picking pine cones.

The little squirrels smashed wave after wave, but found that their hard work not only failed to drive away the two-legged beasts that were stealing food from them, but also became an accomplice to the enemy. They immediately became angry and dispersed, and stopped smashing.

Seeing this, Ye Linxing muttered, "Why don't you just smash it? It's a pity to pick up pine nuts that you didn't get for free."

When Jian Yuelan heard him muttering, her forehead was full of black lines. He must be addicted to picking up things.

She held up a pole and poked the pine cones one by one, and they fell to the ground.

After more than two hours, the three cloth bags were all full.

"Wife, there's no place to put it."

Seeing that she was still knocking, Ye Linxing quickly called for a stop.

"Is it full already?"

Jian Yuelan, who had not even finished knocking a third of the pine cones, looked back at the cloth bag when she heard the sound. Seeing that it was really full, she did not feel disappointed. Instead, she gathered together the remaining pine cones that had no place to put them, sat against the old pine tree, took a dagger and started picking pine nuts.

"Pick all these out?"

Ye Linxing came over and helped pass the pine cones.

"We've knocked them all down, so we can't waste them."

Take it out and throw away the tower. Pine nuts don’t take up space, so you can just stuff them into any bag.

"I'll help too."

Ye Linxing took a pine cone, pulled out a dagger and started working.

However, picking pine nuts is a technical job, and Jian Yuelan is fast because she is skilled at it.

This was Ye Linxing's first time doing this job, and not only was his hands slow, he also couldn't pick it out properly.

"You have to follow the grain of the pine scales first and then pick them."

Jian Yuelan shared her experience with him, and he said "oh" and followed the instructions carefully. At first, he was still unfamiliar with it and his speed was very slow.

Once I got familiar with it, my efficiency gradually improved, and I started to pick more and more pine nuts.

As he was picking, Ye Linxing suddenly felt his head sink, and the skin on his neck exposed outside his clothes was brushed by something. He paused in picking the pine nuts and reached out to grab them on his head, but he grabbed nothing.

Then there was a slump of shoulders, followed by a grunt.

There was also a slight itch on my cheek.

He tilted his head and saw a squirrel with one ear standing up and a tuft of fur standing on end, squatting on his shoulder and staring at him.

The moment their eyes met, the squirrel stretched out its little paws towards him without any shyness.

Ye Linxing was confused, "Begging?"

"almost."

Jian Yuelan grabbed two pine nuts and handed them to it. The little guy immediately took them and cracked the nuts to eat.

Then, it thought the free food was delicious and didn't leave.

He just leaned on Ye Linxing's shoulder and waited to be fed.

It is also shameless. It stretches out its paw after eating. If you don't give it anything, it will growl at you to express its dissatisfaction.

There's nothing I can do when I run into this little elf. I can only feed it.

So, when Mr. Jane came over, he found the couple busy prying pine nuts and feeding the little squirrels.
