Chapter 94: Tired of Studying
Teacher Chen agreed verbally, but felt deeply moved in her heart that Teacher Lian’s awareness was really high. She was worthy of being her daughter’s favorite teacher. Only this kind of teacher could teach such good students!
Lian Yuqing left the night school humming a song. She rode her bicycle back and waited two hours for Miaomiao to pick up her mother.
Chen Caiqi watched her daughter-in-law leave, feeling panic-stricken, but the teacher had already started the class.
Night school is actually a literacy class, but Chen Caiqi is the first one who is so old and doesn’t know a single word.
She looked at the blackboard helplessly, looking at the words that were twisting and turning like earthworms. I don’t recognize them, and they don’t recognize me either!
After persisting for half an hour, Chen Caiqi began to look around to see what her classmates were doing.
"Comrade Chen Caiqi, listen carefully!" Teacher Chen's voice came from the front of the classroom. Chen Caiqi was so scared that he dared not move.
"Your daughter-in-law is an excellent teacher. I believe you will not embarrass her."
When Chen Caiqi heard this, her face suddenly turned red, as if she had really brought shame to Lian Yuqing.
For the next long hour and a half, Chen Caiqi felt like sitting on pins and needles, not daring to move at all.
Finally, the bell rang for the end of get out of class. She couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief and immediately got up and prepared to run back home.
"Next, I'll assign you homework. When you get home, copy the characters you learned today ten times. I'll check on your character recognition in the next class."
Chen Caiqi slumped in the chair, as if the sky had fallen.
Wei Miaomiao was already waiting at the school gate. When most of the students who came to the night school came out, she saw her mother coming out dejectedly. She waved, "Mom, this way!"
Chen Caiqi hung her schoolbag on the handlebars listlessly, then sat down on the back seat. "Miaomiao, can I not go to school?"
Wei Miaomiao smiled awkwardly: "Sister-in-law, I don't think you will agree."
When I got home, Lian Yuqing was already waiting on the sofa. When he saw the mother and daughter coming back, he stood up and said, "School is over, so let's check how you did today."
"Ah?" Chen Caiqi was stunned and hid behind Wei Miaomiao in fear.
Lian Yuqing stepped forward, took the schoolbag from Wei Miaomiao, unzipped it, and took out the paper and pen inside. "After class, go home and review and consolidate your knowledge in time, so that you can remember the knowledge firmly. Don't waste time. Come and sit down quickly."
The two sat face to face. Lian Yuqing frowned as he saw the scribbles on the notebook. "It's your first day, so I can forgive you for not being able to write. But at least you should be able to recognize words. I've asked Teacher Chen about the content of today's class. Can you tell me again?"
Chen Caiqi stumbled and stammered, "It looks like... I imitated a human. No, no, it's fire."
In just a few minutes, Chen Caiqi's forehead was covered with sweat. Lian Yuqing crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair: "I studied all night and only learned one word out of twenty. Do you think it's right?"
Chen Caiqi didn't dare to speak.
"You must be more serious in class in the future and don't be absent-minded. You are not studying for me, but for yourself."
Lian Yuqing acted like a teacher and lectured her mother-in-law for ten minutes, then asked her to put away her pen and notebook.
Finally, Chen Caiqi stammered, "Qing'er, can I not go to school? It doesn't matter if I can't read. You and Dongzi can still teach me! I'll make more food for you. Don't delay my husband."
"You gave up after such a small setback? Where is the spirit of us rural people to endure hardships and not fear difficulties? Can reading and writing be more tiring than working in the fields? Look at the villagers working in the fields all day long. Compared with you sitting in the classroom, you are already very happy."
